A long, easy walk between the wild, unspoilt plateaus of La Bade and Champ Griaud. This is where Auvergne's vineyards have survived, as evidenced by the many plots still in use and the astonishing cellar district at Châteaugay. A route that offers great views over the town and surrounding mountains. Start: Place Ballofy, Blanzat, direction "Les Mauvaises" / place du Général Charles-de-Gaulle, Châteaugay Difficulty: Ascent from Blanzat to Plateau de la Bade Suitable for all seasons. Disregard the crosses indicating the wrong direction, which are not part of the Clermont Communauté itineraries.

To the balconies of Clermont! A grand tour of the conurbation by "la petite ceinture", to be done on foot in sections. Numerous combinations possible with public transport: bus, streetcar and train. A new way of discovering Clermont and the surrounding area, with a unique blend of city and countryside. Possible departure points: "Les Vignes" or "La Pardieu" streetcar stations. Numerous other possibilities from any point on the route network. Difficulties: Steep ascent from Ecole d'Architecture, Chamalières high school to Cote du Bey.

A two-day tour of the Volcanoes, culminating in "Le Puy-de-Dôme". Two days of hiking through an astonishing variety of landscapes, from the town to the edge of the fault, to the highlands of the Plateau des Dômes, where the village of Laschamps welcomes you for the first day's stage. Day 1: Durtol to Laschamps via Sarcenat, La Fontaine du Berger, Le Puy-de-Dôme (18.4 km). Day 2: Laschamps to Durtol via Manson, La Font-de-l'Arbre, Le Cheix, Orcines (18.1 km). Departures: Parking du stade, Durtol, direction "Vulcania" / gare SNCF, Durtol, direction "Vulcania". Difficulties: Significant gradient. Ascent and descent of the Puy-de-Dôme. From the "Chemin des Gouris" crossroads, you can reach the "Maison de Site".

A family trail in the heart of the Chaîne des Puys between woods and pastures, with a vast view of Clermont, Limagne and the Monts du Forez from the Ternant cross. As an added bonus, for the more courageous, we recommend an off-tour to the Sarcoui cave and the puy des Goules. Departure point: Parking des Goules, direction "Monlachat". Difficulty: Very easy; steeper climb for the off-route to grotte du Sarcoui and puy des Goules. Snowshoeing possible in snowy weather.

Clermont-Vulcania is a great challenge, offering a fascinating progression from the Clermont basin to the volcanoes of the Chaîne des Puys. You won't have time to visit Vulcania this time, but during school vacations a bus will be waiting from the parking lot to take you back to town. Departure: Clermont-Ferrand Cathedral, Place de la Victoire, direction "Durtol" / Durtol, direction "Vulcania". Alternatively, take the special bus from Clermont or Royat up to Vulcania and walk back down. Special Clermont-Vulcania-Clermont bus from 01/07 to 31/08, then on request during the spring and autumn vacations 48 hours in advance. Difficulties: Long but gradual ascent.

What a symbol, and what a challenge for any good walker: to "do" the Giant of the Domes in just a few hours from the heart of the city! A handful of kilometers and a long but gradual ascent, with a return trip by bus most of the year. So give it a try and you'll be able to say: I did it! Departure point: Clermont Cathedral, Place de la Victoire, direction "Chamalières" / Square de Verdun, Chamalières / Thermal district, Royat. From the summit of the Puy-de-Dôme, take the cogwheel train (fee payable) back down to the Maison du Site, then return to the town by special bus. Special bus (01/04 to 30/09) from Maison de Site to Clermont station; stops in Royat. Difficulty: The overall height difference between Place de Jaude and the summit of Puy-de-Dôme.

The GTMC-VTT, from Clermont-Ferrand to Volvic. The GTMC mountain bike route continues from Clermont-Ferrand (historic start of the GTMC mountain bike race) to Volvic. From Clermont-Ferrand, the historic departure point for the GTMC mountain bike race, you gradually gain altitude as you head towards the Chaîne des Puys and its 80 volcanoes. Under the gaze of the impressive Puy de Dôme, you'll discover a variety of landscapes, from a 2,000-year-old town to sunny hillsides planted with fruit trees and vines. The route ends in chestnut woods and volcanic cheires, with their chaotic vegetation and morphology. All along the way, the mountain biker's attention is irresistibly drawn to the volcanoes. Volvic, famous for its water and volcanic stone, is the finishing point of this stage. Departure is from Clermont Ferrand railway station. We climb gently up to Place Delille, which we cross before plunging down in front of a large secondary school to follow a long straight line. From set of traffic lights to set of traffic lights, the MTB GTMC takes us to the tarmac slope leading to the Col de Bancillon (alt. 551m). A short but steep descent on a farm track takes us to the Blanzat sports complex. We have to find a passageway to cross it and then climb back up to Blanzat on tarmac. Superb trails through fruit groves and meadows to the village of Malauzat. From Malauzat, we climb through a chestnut grove that takes us right up close to the Chaîne des Puys. Playful, relatively easy trails.

We arrive at "Paradis", the highest point in Royat-Chamalières, to admire the Royat spa from above and Clermont-Ferrand in the background. The Limagne fault runs through here, marking the boundary between the volcanoes and Limagne.

Royat, the starting point for beautiful walks between town and nature; the route takes in pleasant paths between old villages and new districts that encircle the town. We're on the edge of a fault here, but apart from the gradual ascent between the spa and Gravenoire, this loop is within the reach of as many people as possible. Start: Place Allard, Royat, up the tiretaine Difficulty: Ascent between the Royat cemetery and the D5 Parking recommended at the grotte des laveuses; difficult parking in the center of Royat, especially during the spa season.

On this walk, you'll follow the impetuous little river La Tiretaine, which rises near La Font de l'Arbre, not far from the Puy de Dôme, and disappears into the underground world of Clermont-Ferrand.
