What a symbol, and what a challenge for any good walker: to "do" the Giant of the Domes in just a few hours from the heart of the city!
A handful of kilometers and a long but gradual ascent, with a return trip by bus most of the year. So give it a try and you'll be able to say: I did it!
Departure point: Clermont Cathedral, Place de la Victoire, direction "Chamalières" / Square de Verdun, Chamalières / Thermal district, Royat.
From the summit of the Puy-de-Dôme, take the cogwheel train (fee payable) back down to the Maison du Site, then return to the town by special bus.
Special bus (01/04 to 30/09) from Maison de Site to Clermont station; stops in Royat.
Difficulty: The overall height difference between Place de Jaude and the summit of Puy-de-Dôme.
