The Benedictine abbey was founded in the 9th century by Rodolphe de Turenne, Archbishop of Bourges. He installed monks from Solignac. In the early 12th century, the community became affiliated to the Cluny order. The majestic Limousin Romanesque edifice is built in pale ochre sandstone, according to the plans of a large monastic pilgrimage church. It is dominated by a dungeon bell tower. The abbey church is best known for its remarkable early 12th-century sculpted tympanum depicting the return of Christ at the end of time - the Parousia - with a majestic Christ in the center. The tympanum was carved by image carvers from Toulouse.

The abbey church of Vigeois is one of the most precious examples of Romanesque art and architecture in the Lower Limousin. Built between 1082 and 1121, this monument lived through the hardships of the medieval period (looting, attacks and fires). The monastery?s history is documented in the precious chronicles written by the monk Geoffroy de Breuil, prior of Vigeois, from 1170 to 1184. Several attacks resulted in the complete disappearance of the nave, which was rebuilt in a neo-Romanesque style between 1866 and 1868. The primitive church of Ayen was located in Ayen-bas, and belonged to two architectural periods. The Turgotière road has crossed the commune since the 18th century. This road was built by Turgot (Intendant of the Limousin region and Minister of Finance under Louis XVI) to facilitate East-West trade. Worth a visit: the church dedicated to Saint Jean Baptiste.

South-west of Brive-la-Gaillarde, the Causse and its lake await you for a moment of relaxation or sport. An ideal spot, just 10 minutes from Brive town center, for a stroll, picnic on the beach or water sports activities. Available in season: canoe, paddle, pedal-boat and mountain bike rentals, rock-climbing lessons. It's also the ideal place for rowing. Numerous sporting events (triathlon, orienteering, foot races, etc.) take place here throughout the year. Don't miss Montagne Pelée, with its breathtaking views, and the village of Chasteaux, from where you can see the lake from above. A vast network of signposted hiking trails allows you to explore the area.

Our Alpaca farm and spinning mill are located in the heart of the Xaintrie Noire region of Corrèze, 30 min from Beaulieu-Sur-Dordogne and 15 min from Argentat. Nestled in the hollow of a hill, in a very privileged natural site, our farm is located in the immediate vicinity of the Tours de Merles. Come and find out more about these gentle-looking animals with their beguiling smiles, and get up close and personal with them as they feed. You'll also learn the secrets behind the transformation of their magnificent fiber, aptly named "Fiber of the Gods", and witness first-hand several stages in the metamorphosis of fiber into yarn and felt.

A collective project led by volunteers, with axes and saws as their "weapons", these abandoned logs have been brought back to life in the form of sculptures. A natural artistic site, art brut, spontaneous art with no cultural pretensions, no intellectual approach, but a genuine contemporary garden. This freely accessible site is open every day. Les Fermes du Moyen Age is an open-air site where authentic buildings have been reassembled to form a 15th-century village! This village, still under construction, bears witness to the rural life of the people of Xaintrie (nestled between the Dordogne valley and the Auvergne volcanoes). You'll enter several fully furnished farmhouses dating from the late 15th century, as well as outbuildings such as the mill, the chapel and the notary's dwelling. You'll be amazed by the scents and ambience, the domesticated animals in their stables and meadows, the smoke-filled, blackened kitchens, not to mention the gardens with over 350 plants.

Located on the Millevaches plateau, the three Razel flour mills are unique in that they are all on the same site. While the inhabitants of Razel and Chaumeil built the collective mill in the center, two wealthier families built the other two. Now restored, they reveal the secrets of their mechanisms. There are several hiking trails to discover them.

Argentat-sur-Dordogne has been a major trading port for centuries. From the Quai Lestourgie, gabares loaded with wood, leather and oil set sail. Stroll along the old-fashioned cobbled quays and admire the fishermen's houses with their lauze roofs, noble facades and turrets.

In the old village of ST Geniez ô Merle are the ruins of the 14th and 15th century church, listed as a Monument Historique since 1969. Situated on the side of a promontory, it was preceded on the west by a multi-bay bell tower, and ended on the east by a straight wall bearing the Merle coat of arms. The patron saint was St Geniez, the comedian honored on August 25. Its destruction was triggered by a lightning storm that destroyed the roof. Ruin quickly followed, aided by stone robbers. Before 1897, it was the church of the former parish of Saint Geniez ô Merle. The present-day church of St Geniez ô Merle was built in 1899, replacing that of the present-day "Vieux Bourg", whose hamlet is now a protected site.

A 12th-century castrum overlooking the Maronne River, Les Tours de Merle lies on the border between the Limousin, Aquitaine and Auvergne regions. Set in a 10-hectare park, this jewel of medieval Limousin invites you to discover its impressive fortress and its various exceptional viewpoints, a garden of plants cultivated in the Middle Ages, the Maronne River and its shady paths, a store selling local produce and much more... Push open the door of St-Yrieix church (14th and 15th centuries) to discover the tomb of Marquis Philippe de Meilhards, maréchal de camp of Louis XIV; in the choir, an altarpiece by master sculptor Antoine Cruveilher, recently restored to reveal frescoes in shades of ochre and red. In the heart of the village, admire the château, which was most famous in the Middle Ages, and was rebuilt in the 18th century after a fire. Meilhards? rich past is also reflected in the existence of gold mines at Laurière, which were exploited from Gallo-Roman times until the early 20th century. To the south of the village gushes the limpid water of the fountain Sainte ?Radegonde, reputed to be miraculous. Originally venerated as a pagan spring, it was Christianized and a chapel was built. The Etang de la Besse, reserved for fishing, is an ideal place to relax

The history of Meyssac is closely linked to the Viscounty of Turenne. A stronghold since the 12th century, Meyssac offers a rich cultural heritage with its half-timbered houses from the 16th century around the fortified church with its Romanesque porch and the 17th century grain market.

This chapel in the cemetery is home to the Tomb of the Dead. The superb polychrome stone sculpture was created by an unknown 15th-century artist. This stone masterpiece is enhanced by an emotionally-charged sound and light show, narrated by Jean Piat.

The Bétinac windmill, located in the commune of Valièrgue, is one of the last, if not the last, windmills in Corrèze. Built in 1840, it was restored in the 1970s and again in the early 2000s, and is now in good working order.

Despite an etymology that makes Neuvic a "new village" (novus vicus, in Latin), the town has a long history. It would seem that Neuvic's origins lie in a population shift. In any case, Neuvic has been known since the 11th-12th centuries as a dependent town of the Viscounty of Ventadour, with its impressive castle and prestigious literary reputation, linked to the medieval troubadours. Neuvic has its fortifications, the remains of which can still be seen in the oldest street, its entrance gates and its church, remodeled in the 15th century after the destruction of the Hundred Years War. The town also had its charter of franchises. In the mid-19th century, Neuvic became known for its farm school, a local component of the agricultural education system introduced by the Second Republic. Tucked away in the heart of a bountiful natural setting, the small village of Pandrignes is typical of the Limousin?s mid-range mountains: raised houses with almost buried cellars and attics lit by fenestrous windows. The Saint-Pardoux church overlooks the village and houses a 17th-century reliquary bust.

The Chamberet arboretum is a collection of 105 species of trees covering some twenty hectares. Many deciduous and coniferous trees from our forestry heritage are represented, as well as more exotic species such as the Ginkgo biloba or the Araucaria from Chile. From the Latin "petra ficta" meaning planted stone, the village of Pierrefitte nestles in the heart of a rolling landscape where water has carved deep, narrow gorges, giving rise to remarkable natural sites such as the Daro waterfall. On the village square, the church of Sainte-Marie houses a beautiful 15th-century polychrome pieta.

You can discover the joys of fishing (fishing pass available by the day, on sale in the village shops or at the campsite reception, open from 10 July to 20 August). A swimming area with a beach located at the entrance to the campsite will complete your stay. Beach access 50m away with Parc Sports Loisirs multi-sports area (table football, table tennis, etc.) and small children's play area. Just 500m from the Tours de Merle historic and tourist site, on the D13 linking the communes of St-Geniez-ô-Merle and St-Bonnet-les-Tours, look out over Europe's 2nd largest timber-framed bridge, the only one of its kind to have replaced the single-span suspension bridge built at the end of the 19th century. The bridge's features include a 30 m high crossing over the Maronne river (a tributary of the Dordogne), 250 tons of Douglas fir timber, a 56 m span, 6 25 m high crutches in the form of a St-André cross, and a 10 m wide carriageway. The Merle bridge has been open to traffic since 1999, and is a prime example of Corrèze's timber industry.

Possibly dating from the Carolingian period, this bridge was used by the rural road from Varieras to Pérols sur Vézère. It features a single low arch, three water passages on the left side and a small forebay made of cut granite blocks. It is used by several hiking trails.

Medieval 16th-century "becs" bridge over the Vézère with six ogival arches. In the past, it was a toll and pontoon bridge. At the foot of the bridge, a picnic area with games for children has been laid out on the Allassac side.

This small village offers superb views of Les Monédières and the Vézère gorges. Sit down for a moment in the shade of the Tilleuls de Sully before discovering its bread ovens, which resume their activity during the annual fête du Four on the 2nd weekend in September.

The Les Cars archaeological site is one of the most remarkable ancient sites in the Limousin. Between moorland and forest, on the Plateau de Millevaches, a villa and two temple tombs tell the story of a history that goes back almost 2,000 years. The identity of the owners is unknown. But is that the most important thing? Here, for example, the site is undefended and inordinately luxurious: surprising, isn't it? Probably a sign of a long period of peace and wealth? There are surprises for everyone, young and old, history buffs, those curious about construction techniques, agriculture, water management, religious rites, heritage, enigmas? and even hygiene! So, throughout the visit, the Les Cars site tells us almost as much about ourselves as it does about the Roman imperial period.

The small village of Saint-Paul, nestled in the heart of the Plateau des Étangs, will seduce you with the charm and authenticity of its houses built from local stone and slate. Discover the church of Sainte-Madeleine and the miraculous fountain, the subject of an annual procession.

Situated on a hill (320 m), on the borders of the Limousin and the Périgord, Saint-Robert has preserved a medieval character which makes it one of the 'most beautiful villages of France'. It was the setting for the television series based on the novels of Claude Michelet. Of the Romanesque church, only the choir and the transept remain. The nave was destroyed during the Wars of Religion. Next to the octagonal bell tower, above the crossing, there is a polygonal lantern for the dead and a square defensive tower added in the 16th century. Saint-Robert has a very medieval charm with its old stately homes, its narrow streets and the remains of fortified gates. It was the seat of a Court of Appeals.

At the heart of the village of Salon la Tour stands an imposing 11th-century keep, built on a feudal motte. Many fine Limousin homes have come to nestle at the foot of this protective tower.

The 28-meter-high EDF du saillant hydroelectric dam has been in operation since 1929, and is nestled in the heart of a Natura 2000 listed area. The hydroelectric site is equipped with four continuously operating generating units, which produce the equivalent of the annual electricity consumption of the towns of Tulle and Malemort. This industrial heritage lies at the crossroads of several existing hiking trails (GR 46, GRP des gorges de la Vézère). Two hiking trails will take you along the banks of the Vézère, to the hydroelectric plant and dam, to discover the history of the site and its environmental riches. A viewing window, installed at the hydroelectric plant, allows you to observe the turbines in action. Guided tours are offered by the Pays d'Art et d'Histoire in July and August.

The orientation table overlooks the medieval village of Curemonte, listed as "one of the most beautiful villages in France". It offers panoramic views over the Sourdoire, Maumont and Dordogne valleys.

On leaving the village of Ayen, take the D39 towards Brive, then turn left towards the route des puys. At the top of the Ayen hill, you can commune with nature, admiring breathtaking landscapes from the 360° panoramic viewpoints: the Auvergne mountains, the Limousin mountains and, closer to home, the Puy d'Yssandon, Vignols and Hautefort viaducts. The orientation table has had a facelift, allowing you to read the landscape with subtitles!

The orientation table is located on Caesar's round tower on the Château site. A spiral staircase leads to the top. From here, you can admire a wide panorama well beyond the Dordogne valley to the south and, on a clear day, as far as the Cantal mountains. Private site, entrance fee payable.

The Mont Audouze orientation table offers panoramic views of the Auvergne volcanoes, Puy-de-Dôme, Sancy, Mont-Bessou and the Artense plateau.

The Puy d'Yssandon offers a remarkable panorama encompassing the Brive Basin, the Monédières, the Monts d'Auvergne, the Causses and the Périgord plateaux, all of which can be seen from the orientation table. The plateau at the top of the hill offers many vantage points, including the remains of the old feudal enclosure. The lower slopes are planted with walnut trees, while the steeper parts are colonized by downy oaks and pines; on the southern and eastern slopes, the forest is less dominant, leaving wide-open spaces for meadows, vines, plums and walnut trees.

Access via the D20, then the D183 between Neuvic and Liginiac. Puy de Manzagol overlooks the Triouzoune lake opposite Neuvic. From the panoramic viewpoint, the view plunges down to the Pellachal bridge, before wandering off to the horizon of the Monédières.

The remains of a feudal fortress (11th and 14th centuries), the Carbonnières site comprises two square towers (the south tower for defensive purposes and the north tower for residential purposes) and a village abandoned in 1951. It's easy to let your imagination run away with you and discover the secret of the beautiful Catarina... The visit is free and self-guided, thanks to a 4-minute walk (3.5km) marked out on site. It's accessible for the whole family, but with a slight difference in altitude.

Turenne does not lack panache with the slender silhouette of its limestone keep, an avalanche of slate roofs and bold turrets. You will be amazed by the richness of the heritage: the church and its gilded wooden altarpiece, the private mansions of the 16th and 17th centuries, to be admired by following the signposted itinerary so as not to miss any of them. And of course the castle, or rather its imposing ruins: the ramparts, the 13th century keep and the Caesar Tower. From the top, the panorama is unforgettable!

On the last buttresses of the Plateau of Millevaches, between Sarsonne and Diège, Ussel, city of Ventadour illustrates well the medieval past of Corrèze. Churches and houses of XVIe and XVIIe centuries. Church Saint-Martin with choir and Romanesque chevet of XIIe century, chapel of the Blue Penitents with retable of XVIIIe centuries of Paul Delimosin. Houses of the 16th and 17th centuries: residence of the Dukes of Ventadour, house of the communal priests (17th century), Soubise tower (14th-15th centuries). For leisure activities, the tourist centre of Ponty with its lake, the Station Sports Nature Haute-Corrèze, the equestrian centre and a vast network of hiking trails allow the practice of many activities.

The origin of this fortified city, coiled in a meander of the Vézère, goes back to the mists of time. The Gauls already lived in Uzerche. In the 10th century, its monastery was very powerful and its Benedictine abbey radiant. The Saint-Pierre abbey, remains a major witness of the Limousin Romanesque art with its typical octagonal bell tower. The city bristling with towers, full of vaulted passages, adorned with houses similar to small castles, forms a remarkable and rare architectural ensemble, hence the proverb "Who has a house in Uzerche has a castle in Limousin". The rehabilitation of the paper mill has given birth to an exceptional cultural center, signed by the architect Jean Michel Wilmotte. A space entirely dedicated to graffiti has become the Correze temple of street art. Uzerche, nicknamed the "Pearl of the Limousin" is since 2010 part of the "100 Most Beautiful Detours

The ruins of the former church mark the site of a priory that must once have been a hermitage. The remains show the structure of a small Romanesque church with a square nave extended by a three-sided apse. It is flanked on the north by a side aisle ending in a three-sided absidiole, and on the south by a sacristy.

The 7 Vignols railway viaducts were built between 1873 and 1875. Their construction enabled the 1st direct link between Brive and Limoges. Numerous footpaths allow you to discover them.

One of the three viaducts on the A89 in the canton of Eygurande. A technical and aesthetic feat, the Chavanon viaduct is 360m long and overlooks the wild valley of the same name. A link between the Limousin region (commune of Merlines) and the Auvergne region (commune of Messeix), it uses a revolutionary technique unique in Europe: a suspension bridge with two axial cables and two 70m-high inverted V-shaped pylons.

The Old Bridge, also known as the "Pont des Anglais", spans the Vézère at a former ford. Although the date of its construction remains uncertain, its features appear to predate the 14th century. With a length of 45 metres, it is made up of 4 thick arches alternating with almond-shaped headers on the upstream side and flat buttresses on the downstream side. Listed as a Historic Monument since 1969.

On a hill on the left bank of the Vézère river, the houses of this charming little town cling together. The Vigeois abbey church, built in the 12th century, boasts a splendid series of sculpted capitals of great iconographic interest. In the schoolyard, the thousand-year-old Yew tree has been designated a Remarkable Tree of France. The 15-hectare Lac de Pontcharal is 2km from the village.
