The church was part of a vast priory belonging to the Abbey of "la Chaise Dieu" (Auvergne). The wars of religion in the 16th and 17th centuries left their mark on this Romanesque edifice, of which all that remains today is the choir and overhanging transept. To protect itself from attack, the church was fortified in the 14th century, with watchtowers and defensive towers. Inside, an ambulatory, typical of pilgrimage churches, surrounds the choir with its raised arcades. The lightness of the elevation and the sculpted decorations are remarkable. A 13th-century Christ also deserves attention.
