Fontaine St-Sagittaire

Fontaine St-Sagittaire

Description

Also known as the Sainte-Maume fountain, the St Sagittaire fountain dates back to 1896, and is located along the Roman road on the left, just past the village chalet. On your right is its chapel, built at the same time in memory of St. Sagittarius, a martyr from the very first centuries of Christianity. A few steps away, you'll find the watershed between the Loire and Garonne rivers. Every year in May, a pilgrimage is made to the spring. The spring is reputed to cure eye diseases. The water flowing from the fountain is one of the Vienne's first tributaries
