The extracted shell limestone, soft and porous and easy to cut, was widely used for the construction of local houses and for works such as the inner galleries of the Nîmes arena. To build their houses, the inhabitants of Junas had the privilege of collecting the stone off-cuts, hence their massive appearance. Over the years, stone cutters and sculptors have left their mark on the Carrières and the village.

Gradually restored by the local heritage preservation association, these features blend magnificently with the surroundings.

The medieval town center still bears traces of this era, with its winding lanes and vaulted passageways... Junas is famous for its ancient quarries in the garrigue and its stone-cutting skills.

The present-day village of Calvisson was formed in the Middle Ages with the establishment of the priory of Saint Saturnin, of which the church remains the most beautiful witness, followed by the construction of a castle on the heights in the 11th century, which bears witness to the liveliness of the Wars of Religion. At the Balcon de la Liquière, you can continue the Balade du Coucou loop, also known as the sentier des capitelles, by turning left towards La Queyrolle (loop) and then back up to the Balcon de La Liquière (+3 km). 5. Follow La Liquière then Grande Place, Puech des Buis, Labadel, Mas de Puech Long, Le Terme Blanc, La Manade, Chantale Basse, Val Claude, Cante-Perdrix, Maupas and Ournèzes. 6. The Chapel of the White Penitents was built in the late 17th century and features a monumental fresco and four Baroque paintings. The Pénitents Blancs chapel in Aigues-Mortes, completed in 1668 in neo-classical style. Located in the heart of the walled town, it serves as a place of worship for the Pénitents Blancs brotherhood, a religious group devoted to charity and prayer. Its sober, elegant façade contrasts with the richly ornamented interior. It is also home to works of sacred art. Today, the chapel remains a place of remembrance and contemplation, bearing witness to the religious history of Aigues-Mortes.

The Chapel of the Grey Penitents was built in the early 17th century, and features a magnificent altarpiece that can be viewed during opening hours. The chapelle des pénitents gris is a chapel built within the city walls of Aigues-Mortes in the early 17th century, in the rue Rouget de l'Isle at the crossroads with the rue Paul Bert. It was the burial place of members of the brotherhood until 1793, when its furnishings were destroyed, leaving only the high altar and its altarpiece.

Created in 2017, the Réserve du Petit Rhône is a 70-hectare site, divided into two sections to discover the flora and fauna of the Gard Camargue. Our passion for nature led us to develop this abandoned area and showcase the diversity of the Petite Camargue. From 60 bird species at the outset, we counted over a hundred 5 years later, and this number is still rising today. Individual photographer's blinds are available to guarantee a quiet moment in the middle of nature. Services : Tours are available on foot or mountain bike, and cover a total distance of around 4.5 km (allow at least 1h30 for the entire site). The panorama of the Etang de la Marette that can be seen from the CD62 coastal road over the ramparts of Aigues-Mortes has been listed since 1973. The natural, scenic and historical interest of this picturesque site makes it unique. It offers a remarkable view of the medieval town, which is intimately linked to the wetlands in which it lies. In addition to the scenic interest of the panorama - marshes, sansouires, canals and former salt pans - the large wetland area is an important wintering ground for birds. The site is also home to the Maison du Grand Site de France and its discovery trail.

The Maison du Grand Site de France de la Camargue Gardoise is an eco-museum dedicated to the discovery of the landscapes, traditions, fauna and flora of the Camargue Gardoise. In 2014, the Camargue gardoise was awarded the Grand Site de France label, which recognizes the high quality of its landscapes, their preservation and enhancement.
