Towers and ramparts of Aigues-Mortes
Description
Climb the Saint Louis keep and survey the 1,640-meter ramparts that encircle the town of Aigues-Mortes, dominating the panorama of the Camargue and the salt marsh!
A 13th-century fortified enclosure built on the initiative of Louis IX.
The 1634-meter-long ramparts encircle the town, and are flanked by 10 gates and 6 towers. The Tour de Constance is one of the most majestic examples of medieval architecture. It is also infamous for having served as a prison for Protestant women from 1685 onwards.

Unique access at the foot of the Constance Tower, inside the ramparts. Last entry to the ramparts 45 minutes before closing time. It is not possible to turn around on the walkway. Guided tour times: - Low season: 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. - High season: 10 a.m., 2.30 p.m., 3.30 p.m. and 4.30 p.m.
