The panorama of the Etang de la Marette that can be seen from the CD62 coastal road over the ramparts of Aigues-Mortes has been listed since 1973.
The natural, scenic and historical interest of this picturesque site makes it unique. It offers a remarkable view of the medieval town, which is intimately linked to the wetlands in which it lies. In addition to the scenic interest of the panorama - marshes, sansouires, canals and former salt pans - the large wetland area is an important wintering ground for birds. The site is also home to the Maison du Grand Site de France and its discovery trail.
