Finally, it is in 1930 when the dimensions of "boxes" are fixed. Installed on more than three kilometers along the Seine and registered on the UNESCO world heritage in 1991, 240 Parisian secondhand booksellers exploit 900 " green boxes " where are about explained 300 000 second-hand old books and one very large number of magazines, stamps and cards of collection.

The Saint-Martin canal is then covered from the boulevard Jules-Ferry (vault of the Temple realized in 1907). It passes then under the boulevard Richard-Lenoir (vault Richard Lenoir built between 1860 and 1862), and finally under the place of the Bastille (vault of the Bastille realized in 1862) to open on the port of the Arsenal. This stop used to be a beach where rich and poor came to wash, stark naked. Pressure from offended neighbours led to the opening of the first baths in 1680 and bathing in the river was forbidden. A mosque was built at the beginning of the twentieth century and the amazing Institut du Monde Arabe at the end.

The bridge, partially submerged in 1910, was reconstructed in the middle of 1920s by the architects Pierre and Louis Guidetti. The command of the stone group, set up at the top of the pylon in the junction of both arcs, was, it, given to the sculptor Paul Landowski, the author of other numerous Parisian monuments. The work represents Saint Genevière protecting the City of Paris, shown under the lines of a girl squeezing against her the municipal nave.
