In the Salvagnacois region, between vineyards and groves, paths run alongside farms made of stone and terracotta. Further up, on the heights of Sivens, they turn into forest trails and lead to magnificent panoramas overlooking the Tescou Valley. From the parking lot at Les Sourigous leisure base, cross the footbridge and continue straight on the grassy path for 150 meters. Turn right onto the road (follow the GR de Pays, marked with yellow and red signs). At the intersection, continue straight on the grassy path between the fields. Turn left onto the road (ignore the yellow and red markings). At La Tounario, turn right, then descend left onto the dirt path. At the intersection, turn right. Take the road to the right to reach Les Barrières. After the water tower, turn left and continue straight on the road. Take the gravel path on the left. At the crossroads, take the trail into the woods on the left. Descend along the fence. At the crossroads, continue straight, then turn left and cross the Tescounet stream. Turn left again. At the intersection, continue straight on the track "GR de Pays" (yellow and red markings). On the road, turn left for about 350 meters. Turn left again. After the bend, descend to the right towards "Les Camalets". Turn right and continue straight. Turn right onto the road for about 50 meters. Descend again to the right onto the path. Take the road to the left. At the crossroads, turn left. Turn right to return to the starting point

This route takes you on a visit to the old town, in particular Les Greniers du Roy and the former castle. Scenic view points over the valley and the village centre. Go in the direction of “Promenade du Souvenir” and go up the Place du Souvenir. Then follow the directions: Greniers du Roy - Square de La Voie - Pech des Agnels - Croix de Peyre – Villemur

Close to the Grésigne forest, the Mespel trail follows the shapes of the arid hills and allows you to discover a preserved and wild environment. After leaving the Vère valley, the rock shelters of Larroque surprise the hiker and provide access to the limestone plateau of Mespel with its green oaks, phillyreas, and other pistachio trees. From the trail, there is a view of the medieval village of Puycelsi. Facing the Larroque town hall, climb the stairs, then turn left and immediately right onto the road. Walk for 250 meters. At the intersection, continue straight on the gravel path. At the fork, continue straight on the path that passes through the undergrowth. At the crossroads (archaeological site on the right), climb to the left and continue straight under the trees. Upon reaching the open plateau dotted with oak groves and dry grasslands, continue straight up. Take the path to the left (white-red markings of GR® 46) and head towards Mespel. After 500 meters, you will reach the Notre-Dame des Bois Chapel (20-minute round trip). In the hamlet, cross the road and continue straight along the path that runs alongside the houses. At the crossroads, leave GR® 46 on the right (white and red markings) and take the path to the left (yellow markings). At the fork, turn right onto the winding path, cross the road, and go straight down to reach a viewpoint. After the viewpoint, descend the path (dangerous descent in wet weather) and then turn right to return to Larroque

Set off towards Villemur on the D22 and the Presbytery, then turn right and then left towards Le Lavoir (picnic area). Then follow the directions: Le Jardin - Miquelou - St-Martin - le Pontil - Pisse-Guère - Layrac - Les Prés Hauts - Bondigoux / La Forge

This itinerary offers a breathtaking view over the valley and the blue ribbon of Tarn, from Le Ramier. Note the building quality of the suspension bridge, and the church wash-house is not to be missed. Setting off from the suspension bridge, go down Avenue du Pont, pass the Town Hall and at the fork turn left into Rue du Grajot and then turn left again into Rue du Camil Viel. Then follow the directions: La Baronne - Le Ramier - Le Moulin - Les Gasques - Mirepoix.

A former railway line transformed into a bike and pedestrian path in 2008, you can enjoy a pleasant 8kms route between Villemur-sur-Tarn and La Magdelaine-sur-Tarn. Open to all except for riders and motorised vehicles. The Villemur-sur-Tarn route is a cycling and pedestrian path extending across Tarn. Nestled in the valley, it offers an enjoyable family-friendly hike to explore the countryside, and the region’s flora and fauna. For the more seasoned sports enthusiasts, the 8kms laid out over a former railway track provide the opportunity to practise cycling, roller blading or running in a scenic setting between Villemur-sur-Tarn and La Magdelaine-sur-Tarn. Open to all except for riders and motorised vehicles.

In the heart of the RabastinoisFrom the peaceful shores of the Lac des Auzerals to the hillsides offering panoramic views, this demanding loop reveals a patchwork of landscapes where wilderness and cultivated land blend harmoniously. Punctuated by heritage treasures such as the old Moulin de la Prune (Plum Mill) and picturesque villages, this hike promises total immersion in the authenticity of the Tarn. Go to the end of the lake on the right, take the path on the left and go up along the edge of the forest. At the road, go opposite towards Impasse de la Prune, head towards the old mill, turn left at the hangar and right at the path that goes down through the meadow to the road. Turn left, cross the D2 and take the path opposite, climb through the woods, then go past a farm on the left and continue until you reach a small road. Turn left and follow it for 300m. Turn left onto the path that descends between the fields. At the bottom, turn left for 100m, then turn right, turn left to walk along the undergrowth and go back up through the fields on the other side, arriving at the road on the heights of Grazac, and crossing it. Take the path opposite to go back down, turn right at the stream, cross it further on and go back up to a stony path. Turn left and continue along this path until you reach the road. Head towards Réal, turn left at the church, leave the road and follow the path straight ahead until you reach Roquemaure. In Roquemaure, go past the church then turn right at the fork. Take care on the D18. After 50 metres, turn left, then right and take the path opposite. Turn left at the edge of the woods and head downhill. Skip the stream, go up a little and turn right to go back down towards the stream, follow it for 150m and go back up through woods and fields and come out at the top of the hill from where you can see the surrounding area. Follow the path, go past a house called Font Jean and at the end of it turn right then left into the woods. At the fork, turn left and follow the path straight ahead, descending towards Mézens. At the road, turn right, go straight ahead at the stop sign and turn opposite to descend towards the stream. Cross the bridge, go up the hill, turn right and then left at the intersection with the GR46, which you will follow until Rabastens. Continue on the path until you reach the road. Follow this road for 400m, turn right onto the path for 150m and then rejoin the road for just under 2km. Before the chapel of Puycheval, leave the road, turn left onto the path that runs alongside fields and then forks from right to left before reaching a wood. Cross it and head up towards the vineyards, passing through the Mas de Grouze estate. Continue along the road and take the first path on the left. You will leave the GR46 to follow the Lac des Auzerals trail. Cross the D18 and take the path on the right that goes uphill. At the top, cross opposite and at the end of the oak-lined path, turn right onto the road towards the church of Guidal. Turn left at the road, then left again at the junction with the D12, then turn right and go up the hill after the bend towards Les Auzerals. Continue until you reach the junction where you started, turn right and go down towards the lake, and complete the loop by turning right.

Between woodlands and vineyard slopes, this long hike offers intriguing contrasts and beautiful views of the Tarn Valley. Part of the route traverses the Sivens Forest. With your back to the church, take the road to the left for 450 meters, passing the PR "Les Coteaux de Lisle," and continue on the road until you reach a fork. Turn right towards Le Clavet, then before the farm, take a left onto a grassy path along the edge of the woods and descend. Cross the departmental road D999 (Caution), and follow it a few meters to the left on the secure path under the plane trees until you reach the poultry farm. Turn right towards the stream, cross the footbridge, turn right towards the chalets, and in the woods, take the small left trail to ascend towards the Sivens Forest. Join the Sivens Discovery Trail. At the road, turn left, pass in front of the Maison Forestière (picnic area), and 100 meters later, take the path (barrier for vehicles). Follow the charcoal burner, then follow the Combe del Loup. At the fork, turn right. On the gravel path, turn left, then 100 meters later, turn right, descend into the valley, and climb back up to the road (viewpoint of Puycelsi). Continue left on the Oustrières road for 1 km, then turn right towards the chapel of the same name (picnic tables). Descend the path, then at the bottom, at the intersection, turn right, go 50 meters before turning left to climb through the forest back to the road. Turn left. At 100 meters, at the fork, turn right onto the Pradies road. Descend for 2 km. Before the Moulin de la Salle Basse, turn left; the road turns into a path for 1 km along the Tescou. Once back on the road, turn right at the former Moulin de Cassagnol. Cross the departmental road D999 again (Caution). Continue between the hedges, then along the field to climb up to Combalade. Continue towards Long Pech. At the shed, turn right to follow the vineyards, then immediately left onto the dead-end of Corbières. At 40 meters, take the grassy path that descends and climbs up to the D14. Cross it and continue straight to arrive at Lapeyrière (chapel to the right, 50 meters away). Turn left, then 150 meters later, turn right to descend on a path bordered by fields and ditches. Climb left by the road. Pass behind the house, then cross a grove and return to the starting road. Finally, turn right towards Saint-Étienne de Vionan Church.

In the heart of the town, a church that impresses with its architecture and grandeur. As the fourth sanctuary built in this place, the church has suffered from the wars of religion. After being pillaged by the Huguenots, it had to be closed to religious worship for several decades. The reconstruction that was necessary in 1856 was accompanied by an extension necessary to accommodate a growing parish, followed by the installation of stained glass windows and the construction of the vault. Bernard Bénézet, a painter from Toulouse, was called in to decorate the walls of the choir, and Sicardou, a sculptor from Toulouse, made the altar of marble and onyx. As for the wood panelling that surrounds the choir, it was made by a craftsman from Villemur. The bell-tower, built in 1875, received then the big bell called "le souc" probably because of its enormous counterweight of wood. It is the oldest part of the monument, because it comes from the previous church. The bell tower now houses 3 bells named "Germaine", "Monseigneur" and "Alain-Marie".

It is a set of silos built around 1610 by the last constable of France François De Bonne, Duke of Lesdiguières, companion in arms of the good King Henry. A building largely inspired by the Italian Renaissance, restored in 1971, this brick and half-timbered monument will transport you to the heart of Tuscany or Milan. The site is only accessible during events or guided tours organised by the Tourist Office or the Association du Villemur Historique. Listed as a historic monument, this key part of the town's old defensive system welcomes visitors at the entrance to the town. An emblematic feature of the town, it now houses a number of exhibitions in a friendly, fun environment. Located in the Notre-Dame district, the Tour de Défense is the town's oldest monument, along with the mill. Built in the 12th century to block access to the city, it was also used as a mill. It has a remarkable roof structure on the ground and ground floors. The city walls rested on the sides of this imposing 2-storey brick tower. In 1830, the upper storeys of the buildings on either side of the Tower were built, partly concealing it. The fortress is built in the Visigothic style, with a short rectangle at its base, extended by a semi-circle on one side. It rises 30 m above the water. Clad in flat tiles, the tower has three levels. On the outside, loopholes and windows with geminated and third-pointed openings bear witness to its original military function. The Brusson brothers set up their first pasta factory here in 1872. In 1889, a pump installed at the foot of the tower pumped water from the Tarn, after being filtered through gravel. Villemur was one of the very first towns in the region to be equipped with a water supply system.

It was built in 1873 on the site of the old church. The renewed interest in the Middle Ages at this time explains the choice of the neo-Gothic style for the church. In the chapel of the Virgin, the capital dating from the 14th or 15th century appears to be the last surviving example of the former Gothic church. The choir paintings created for Abbé Moussié depict the heavenly court: Christ, the Virgin and the Saints, who are portraits of the parishioners of the time.

This washhouse is supplied with water from a constant flow source. Belonging to the GRANIE family, it was rented by the commune from 1928 to 1979 to make it free and open to the public. After being bought by the commune in 1999, it was remarkably restored in 2001.

Its strategic location, at the crossroads of several territories, made it an important fortified site throughout the Middle Ages. Unlike the bastides founded in the 13th century, Puycelsi developed in a more organic way. Its winding streets follow the natural contours of the site and are enclosed within a powerful defensive wall that is still largely intact today. The village experienced the upheavals of medieval history, including the Albigensian Crusade and the Hundred Years’ War, during which it withstood several sieges. Its extensive ramparts, stretching for several hundred metres, can now be explored via a walkway offering remarkable views over the surrounding forest. Listed among the “Most Beautiful Villages of France”, Puycelsi stands out for its unspoilt character and its exceptional natural setting at the edge of the Grésigne Forest, sometimes earning it the nickname “fortress of the woods”. The church was built in the middle of the 19th century around 1930, on the remains of the first church which was in very poor condition. All that remains of the first church is the wall adjacent to the presbytery supporting the bell tower.

Only a capital and two sculpted heads, remnants of the original church, were salvaged and reused in the current church, built in 1905 in a neo-Gothic brick style.
