This walk through the Marcaissonne Valley offers the chance to discover or rediscover a landscape typical of the Lauragais region’s extensive farming. On either side of the stream, the path, lined with hedgerows and tall oak trees, offers walkers a peaceful stroll through this wide, flat valley, flanked by steep hillsides. This area is home to the historic ‘Chemin Toulousain’ route. Comments: - Few shaded areas - Muddy walk in wet weather - Minimal elevation gain - Water point in front of the town hall Alternative route: 2 hours 15 minutes, 7.4 kilometres Cross the D94 road and turn left towards the shopping centre. Immediately turn right onto the path that passes in front of the chemist’s and the MJC. Follow the sunken path down alongside a housing estate. Starting point: Auzielle Town Hall car park, in the centre of the village. Alternative route: From point 5), continue straight on along the stony track. At the road, carry on straight ahead. Pass the Chemin de la Croix de Fer on your right. Ride past the Parc du Pigeonnier to reach the church. Practical advice for horse riders: Sections suitable for galloping between 2/ and 3/, a track running alongside the Marcaissonne for 1.7 km, and the Chemin Toulousain for 1.3 km.

A walk along the PR Route de la terre is an opportunity to step back in time and appreciate the heritage of earth culture, both architectural and artistic, which is still alive and well in the Toulousain region and, here, in the Coteaux du Girou. There are 5 points on the PR Route de la terre itinerary where you can appreciate the expertise that has left its mark on the Girou landscapes.

Notes: - You can start from the Sicoval swimming pool or Jaques Prévert secondary school; begin the route description from (4). - Take care after (1): narrow pavement alongside the D 16 road. - Several shaded sections Starting point: Labège Town Hall car park. Practical advice for horse riding and mountain biking: Walk your horse between (2) and (3) when approaching the Saint Sernin fountain, and dismount before point (6). After (2), there is a narrow, steeply sloping path: proceed at a walk for 150 m. Horse riders: it is recommended to set off from the Sicoval swimming pool, shortly after point (4).

Notes: - Few shaded areas - Water point at the cemetery Starting point: Belberaud village. Car park by the boules court, at the entrance to Belberaud village, at the bottom of Rue de la Mairie. After the boules court, take the grassy Chemin de la Bécasse, which runs alongside the stream of the same name. Practical advice for horse riders: Sections suitable for galloping between (1) and (2). Take care at crossroads.

A trail which follows the Canal du Midi. Possibility to do this on roller-skates or on foot. Discover this majestic canal built by Pierre-Paul Riquet with its centuries-old plane trees. The Canal du Midi, built starting in 1666, a total of 240 km long with its main purpose being to transport merchandise, notably grain grown in the Lauragais area until 1970. The Canal du Midi is classified as part of UNESCO’s World Heritage sites since December 5th 1996. The green trail (3metres wide) was established along the former tow path allows vacationers to peacefully discover the area's rich heritage at their own pace. The trail may be followed from Toulouse to Port Lauragais or the other way around with access possible at various points all along the way (for example at the canal-locks).

This pleasant walk to the Notre-Dame de Maravals chapel offers numerous panoramic views of the Hers Valley, whilst following a botanical trail that showcases the local diversity of plant life. Comments: - Dangerous junctions at point 2 and after point 4: crossing the D 31 road, poor visibility. - Crossing farmyards – keep dogs on a lead. - Water points at the cemeteries in Montlaur and Maravals. - Option to shorten the loop by skipping the two side routes (-2.2 km) Start: car park at Montlaur Town Hall. Practical advice for horse riding and mountain biking: Horse riders: a section suitable for galloping between 2/ and 1/ on the return leg, with a grassy track for 400m. This route is not recommended for the second side trail (steps). Mountain bikers: for the second detour, dismount at the steps leading to the cemetery.

The result of collaboration between Haute-Garonne Tourisme and the 2 Pieds 2 Roues association, this 665km route invites you to discover the diversity of the region by bike. It's an itinerary you can complete in 13 stages on our roads. Most of the departure and arrival points are served by a railway station, so you can tailor your stages as you wish.

Comments: - Narrow pavements on Avenue de l’Aéropostale. - Dangerous junctions with the D35 road. - Narrow roads on the Chemin du Coustelas and Chemin de Saint-Jean. - Damp, shaded sections through the woodland. Starting point: the Comtesse’s dovecote car park, on Avenue de Suisse. Route changes for horse riders and mountain bikers: At point 2/, continue straight on below the garden to take the wide grassy track running parallel to the Chemin de Découvertes, then rejoin the route at point 3/. At point 4/, take the grassy path opposite, running along the edge of the field to the left of the stream, for 400 metres; at the entrance to the woodland, continue along the left-hand path which climbs into the woodland to reach point 5/. Practical advice for horse riders: Avenue de l’Aéropostale is a busy road. There is a narrow passage between posts at the end of the Chemin de Madame. A section suitable for galloping at point 4/, a grassy track for 400 metres. Take care at junctions.

This first stage takes you gradually out of the Toulouse conurbation and into more open, rural countryside. The route alternates between urban sections, small secondary roads and the first villages, ideal for food and refreshment breaks. The route starts in the heart of the "Pink City", between its monumental heritage and the banks of the Garonne, before gradually escaping into the hills of the Savès. A gentle warm-up stage, taking in the scenery of the Garonne plain before the first undulations. There will be crossings and junctions, as well as stretches with varying degrees of traffic. For everyone's safety, it's essential to obey the Highway Code and keep an eye out for other road users.

Located at the gates of the Tarn, Lauragais and Tolosan country: in the historical triangle of Pastel, Verfeil, Cathar city (Verfuèlh in Occitan), opens its doors in the authentic setting of a medieval village. In the past, four gates allowed you to pass through the ramparts surrounding the town, two of them were fortified. These two gates are still standing: the Tolosane gate and the Vaureze gate. The latter owes its name to the fact that it is oriented towards Lavaur.Flanked by two " poivrières " (a masonry guardhouse with a conical roof) framing a renaissance pediment, it had a drawbridge at the time. In 1593, it was decided to raise it and to build a room above the passage.

Historical residence of Pierre-Paul Riquet, the brilliant inventor of the Canal du Midi, classified as a national historical monument since July 31, 2008 and certified Maison des Illustres. In the Garonne valley next to his house, Riquet set up his "test ponds". It is around this experimental complex, extending over nearly two hectares, that Riquet studied the water supply of his future Canal du Midi for about ten years. Consecrated in 1096, the basilica is a masterpiece of Romanesque art. The tympanum of the Miegeville door, sculpted capitals, the altar table or bas reliefs (above the crypt) marked and influenced art in Europe. The church is the largest monument of Romanesque origin remaining in the world. World Heritage of UNESCO as monument on the way to Compostela, the church with the relics of St. Sernin and many other relics (it was written that there was no holier place in the world after St. Peter Rome) attracted many pilgrims.

The largest Romanesque church in France, this monumental gem listed as World Heritage by UNESCO has welcomed pilgrims for centuries along the Way of St James. The Basilica of Saint-Sernin has been restored to its former splendour in recent days, with a contemporary rose window that lets the light in and floods the nave with a multitude of colours. Come and admire this monumental work designed by the artist Jean-Michel Orthoniel. One of the symbols of Toulouse, this basilica of brick and stone is certainly imposing. Majestic and luminous, it was built between the XI and XIV Centuries in honour of St Saturnin (or Sernin), the first bishop of the city. An important stop along the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela, it inspires reverence and its vast proportions are ideal for strolling past the numerous reliquaries. A 21 metre high nave whose barrel vault rests upon richly sculpted capitals leads you to the choir and its gold-plated wooden and marble canopy. In the richly decorated transepts you can discover some moving medieval frescoes. You can also access the crypts in which it is possible to admire, most notably, the enamel reliquary of the True Cross in the form of a sarcophagus.

This is the most photographed building in Toulouse! Its dome acts as a beacon for the city’s inhabitants, drawing the gaze by day and when it is dressed in lights at night. The marker of the Saint-Cyprien quarter, La Grave chapel was built around the XVIII Century on a gravel bank left by the River Garonne, which gives it its name. It was part of the La Grave Hospital, built in 1197 in order to accommodate plague victims. Its consecration to St Joseph, patron saint of carpenters, places the accent on the role it played during the XVII Century at the time of the Great Imprisonment of the poor. It then included numerous workshops designed to train the needy in the skills required to earn a placement with local artisans.

In the heart of the Lauragais region, the 5-hectare Lac de l'Orme Blanc has been transformed into an 80-metre-long beach. A favourite spot for families, anglers and campers, Lac de l'Orme Blanc is ideal for walks and picnics. There is a barbecue and several picnic tables around the lake. A paying beach has been set up for the summer season. This is a category 2 fishing lake. A footpath leads around the lake (1.5 km) and offers shaded areas with tables and benches for picnics. Fishing is permitted on the lake, where the fish stocks are particularly rich and varied. Built on a castle mound, Loubens Lauragais is a charming village marked by the period of "blue gold";, in other words the pastel trade, this deep blue dye that made the richness of Lauragais in the 16th century. Founded by the ancient family of Loubens, the castle was built as a result of the extension and remodelling of the seigneurial residence undertaken in the 16th century. Indeed, there are no remains of the first castle. The castle can be visited for groups by appointment and also for individuals during the European Heritage Days. You will enjoy walking through the village's alleys, which have retained all their charm of yesteryear. Book guided tours by appointment with the tourist office in Nailloux.

Simple lock located on the Canal du Midi. The lockkeeper's house and the dovecote, as well as the port and the washhouse date from the construction of the canal. The washhouses, planned from the beginning, were severely regulated. Beware of anyone who came to wash their clothes without being authorized to do so! As for thefts of linen, they were punished by imprisonment. This covered wash-house is the oldest, with a bench and a fireplace to heat water.
