This walk through the Marcaissonne Valley offers the chance to discover or rediscover a landscape typical of the Lauragais region’s extensive farming. On either side of the stream, the path, lined with hedgerows and tall oak trees, offers walkers a peaceful stroll through this wide, flat valley, flanked by steep hillsides. This area is home to the historic ‘Chemin Toulousain’ route. Comments: - Few shaded areas - Muddy walk in wet weather - Minimal elevation gain - Water point in front of the town hall Alternative route: 2 hours 15 minutes, 7.4 kilometres Cross the D94 road and turn left towards the shopping centre. Immediately turn right onto the path that passes in front of the chemist’s and the MJC. Follow the sunken path down alongside a housing estate. Starting point: Auzielle Town Hall car park, in the centre of the village. Alternative route: From point 5), continue straight on along the stony track. At the road, carry on straight ahead. Pass the Chemin de la Croix de Fer on your right. Ride past the Parc du Pigeonnier to reach the church. Practical advice for horse riders: Sections suitable for galloping between 2/ and 3/, a track running alongside the Marcaissonne for 1.7 km, and the Chemin Toulousain for 1.3 km.

Take to the back roads around Caraman and tackle the hills of the Lauragais on a road bike. From village to village, discover bucolic views over the surrounding countryside. At the turn of the villages, a remarkable heritage will divert you from your path. - in Caraman: the Place du Castela, where the church is enthroned, and the narrow pink brick streets (Rue du Temple in particular) - in Auriac-sur-Vendinelle: the square bell tower of the church and the market square - Cambiac: the magnificently renovated mill and the château in the heart of its vast grounds

This pleasant walk to the Notre-Dame de Maravals chapel offers numerous panoramic views of the Hers Valley, whilst following a botanical trail that showcases the local diversity of plant life. Comments: - Dangerous junctions at point 2 and after point 4: crossing the D 31 road, poor visibility. - Crossing farmyards – keep dogs on a lead. - Water points at the cemeteries in Montlaur and Maravals. - Option to shorten the loop by skipping the two side routes (-2.2 km) Start: car park at Montlaur Town Hall. Practical advice for horse riding and mountain biking: Horse riders: a section suitable for galloping between 2/ and 1/ on the return leg, with a grassy track for 400m. This route is not recommended for the second side trail (steps). Mountain bikers: for the second detour, dismount at the steps leading to the cemetery.

Notes: - You can start from the Sicoval swimming pool or Jaques Prévert secondary school; begin the route description from (4). - Take care after (1): narrow pavement alongside the D 16 road. - Several shaded sections Starting point: Labège Town Hall car park. Practical advice for horse riding and mountain biking: Walk your horse between (2) and (3) when approaching the Saint Sernin fountain, and dismount before point (6). After (2), there is a narrow, steeply sloping path: proceed at a walk for 150 m. Horse riders: it is recommended to set off from the Sicoval swimming pool, shortly after point (4).

A walk along the PR Route de la terre is an opportunity to step back in time and appreciate the heritage of earth culture, both architectural and artistic, which is still alive and well in the Toulousain region and, here, in the Coteaux du Girou. From the Lauragais plain and the banks of the Canal du Midi, escape to the hillsides of south-east Toulouse to discover the Voie d'Arles-GR653. Along the way, you'll come across panoramic views of the Pyrenees, between ridges and valleys, and local producers in the surrounding area. Follow the red and white GR653 markings all the way along. This hike between ridges and valleys offers fine views over the Toulouse plain and the Lauragais farmlands, which change colour with the seasons. Discover the village of Baziège and its fertile hills shaped by the Autan wind. A stopover on the Roman road from Narbonne to Toulouse, Baziège was an important commercial centre in the Middle Ages. Its salt and wheat markets (in the 11th and 18th centuries) and then its pastel markets in the Renaissance contributed to its fortunes.

On the way to the lakeBelcastel, a former stronghold, is a charming village gathered around its 12th-century fortress church. According to 19th-century writings, the building was originally a chapel dependent on the Belcastel castle, which was destroyed during the French Revolution. The sandstone bell tower-dungeon was likely used to keep watch over enemies from its 22-meter height.Download the hiking guide in PDF format From the starting sign, opposite the town hall, take the small road marked 'chemin du lavoir.' Follow this road downhill for 100 meters, then leave it and take the path in front of you when you reach a bend, to the right near the small shed. Follow the path downhill until you reach a junction. Turn left and continue straight along the Bernède stream. You will reach a crossing with the D35. Be cautious when crossing the road, and immediately turn left into the field. Follow the ditch on your right for a few meters before turning left along the Nadalou stream. Make sure the stream is on your right as you go. Continue along the path through the fields until you reach the road. Carefully cross the road and take the dirt path in front of you. Continue along this path and trail for several kilometers along the lake. The trail continues until you reach a small grove, where you cross the stream via a wooden footbridge. Once across, turn right to begin the return along the other side of the lake. At the place called 'l’Espagnole,' the trail briefly leaves the lakeside. You need to take the slight uphill path on your left to rejoin the road a little higher up. At the intersection, turn left, and do not enter the private road on the right. After 100 meters, turn right and descend the dirt road to return to the lakeside. Continue until you cross the dam to complete the loop around the lake. Go straight ahead following the dam and climb a few meters on a steep slope to rejoin the path taken earlier. Then turn left onto the trail. Retrace your steps through the fields along the Nadalou stream and then the Bernède stream. Be careful, at point no. 2, make sure to turn right at the junction and again to your right to take the path back up to the village

A paying beach has been set up for the summer season. This is a category 2 fishing lake. A footpath leads around the lake (1.5 km) and offers shaded areas with tables and benches for picnics. Built on a castle mound, Loubens Lauragais is a charming village marked by the period of "blue gold";, in other words the pastel trade, this deep blue dye that made the richness of Lauragais in the 16th century. Founded by the ancient family of Loubens, the castle was built as a result of the extension and remodelling of the seigneurial residence undertaken in the 16th century. Indeed, there are no remains of the first castle. The castle can be visited for groups by appointment and also for individuals during the European Heritage Days. Located at the gates of the Tarn, Lauragais and Tolosan country: in the historical triangle of Pastel, Verfeil, Cathar city (Verfuèlh in Occitan), opens its doors in the authentic setting of a medieval village. In the past, four gates allowed you to pass through the ramparts surrounding the town, two of them were fortified. These two gates are still standing: the Tolosane gate and the Vaureze gate. The latter owes its name to the fact that it is oriented towards Lavaur.Flanked by two " poivrières " (a masonry guardhouse with a conical roof) framing a renaissance pediment, it had a drawbridge at the time. In 1593, it was decided to raise it and to build a room above the passage.

Simple lock located on the Canal du Midi. The lockkeeper's house and the dovecote, as well as the port and the washhouse date from the construction of the canal. The washhouses, planned from the beginning, were severely regulated. Beware of anyone who came to wash their clothes without being authorized to do so! As for thefts of linen, they were punished by imprisonment. This covered wash-house is the oldest, with a bench and a fireplace to heat water.

Historical residence of Pierre-Paul Riquet, the brilliant inventor of the Canal du Midi, classified as a national historical monument since July 31, 2008 and certified Maison des Illustres. It is around this experimental complex, extending over nearly two hectares, that Riquet studied the water supply of his future Canal du Midi for about ten years. Double lock located on the Canal du Midi. Intact since it was rebuilt in the 13th century, its name recalls an anecdote: that of the capture of a boar "of enormous size" by the workers in charge of the construction of the work. The lockmaster's house dates from 1752. Listed as a historical monument since 1998.

A route in the heart of the village will allow you to cross the Vendinelle via the Pont-vieux, a 15th century structure from which a toll was collected, and to discover the classified windows of the flamboyant Gothic style of the Sarda de Caumont House, an outbuilding of the old castle. A former Gallo-Roman villa, Auriac sur Vendinelle is a picturesque village that was built around its castle in the 11th century. Its religious heritage is quite atypical. The square bell tower of the Sainte Marie Madeleine church is indeed the former keep of the fortress castle. The listed chapel of Noumérens, in Romanesque style, contains a fragment of an 8th century sarcophagus containing a chrism and a rosette, symbols of the early Christian Church. The village of Auriac-sur-Vendinelle was founded by the Roman owner of this land. In fact, there was a Roman villa roughly on the site of the place known as La Durande (to the south-east of today's village). This villa, the first sign of organised settlement in Auriac, probably belonged to a local lord named Aurius, who gave his name to the village. The oldest textual reference to Auriacum dates back to the 11th century. It tells us of a castle, owned by several lords, protecting a ford. A ford is a place on a river where it is possible to cross on foot. The ford at Auriac was an important ford on a busy trade route. It was the crossing point for the vendinelle on the road from Toulouse to Revel, via Caraman. The town's golden age came at the end of the Middle Ages. It was elevated to the rank of barony at this time, under the county of Caraman. But the town's destiny was to be turned upside down in the 16th century, and on several occasions. Auriac suffered greatly during the Wars of Religion between Protestants and Catholics. In 1563, Protestants from Puylaurens attacked Auriac and pillaged the town and its inhabitants. This was a major blow for the people of Auriac. In 1568, having barely recovered from this first raid, the town was once again attacked by Huguenots. This time, an army of more than 1,000 men attacked Caraman and all the churches in the county. And again in 1570, this time to establish a more permanent presence. Fortunately, this time the inhabitants had been warned and were able to evacuate the town. This time, the town definitively went over to the Protestant side, although the inhabitants tended to be Catholic, and a few years of appeasement were in prospect. Until 1591, when Catholic troops attacked the county of Caraman and Auriac. They came from Joyeuse and ravaged the town, its houses, its castle and ... its archives. Returned to the Catholic fold in 1622, the castle was destroyed stone by stone in 1625 by order of the King. All that remains of this building is its keep, which today serves as the bell tower of Sainte-Madeleine church. It wasn't until the 19th century that the village rose from the ashes. Thanks to the development of wheat growing, Avignonet and the Lauragais region enjoyed another golden age. Developments in farming techniques transformed the region into the "granary of Toulouse". It was during this period that the village hall, which you can still admire today, was built. It was also at this time that the Rue Major was lined with shops to enable the new influx of inhabitants to live in Auriac. The town's population reached 2,000 by the end of the 19th century. A symbol of this revival, the famous "little black train", a railway line linking Toulouse to Revel in the heart of the Lauragais region, passed through Auriac as soon as it opened in 1906.
