A bucolic walk ideal for families. Mountain bikes recommended. Shared between pedestrians (with dogs) and cyclists. Linear route with varied views: plain and Alps on the way out, Jura on the way back. The greenway is made up of three distinct sections: from Gex Gare to Tutegny, a sand-coloured gravel path; from Tutegny to Grilly Ouest, a grey gravel path; and finally, from Grilly Est to Divonne Gare, a tarmac road. All crossings are secured by barriers, so that users must cross on foot to ensure their safety. The starting and finishing points are in Gex, near the Gare restaurant, and in Divonne, at the Avenue du Mont Mussy junction. The route is identical in both directions. It takes around 45 to 50 minutes to get there, and just over an hour to return by mountain bike, depending on your pace. The green route offers a variety of views: the plain and the Alps on the way out, and the Jura massif on the way back. On arrival at Divonne, there are a number of variations that make it easy to reach the lake, as well as the Mont Mourex mountain bike trails, which are very popular with nature lovers and thrill-seekers. The width of the route is sometimes narrow, barely allowing two cyclists to ride abreast. Caution is therefore advised, especially when the roads are busy. The highway code applies: it's important to ride on the right for everyone's safety.

This hike leads up to Colomby, with fine views of Mont Blanc and the Geneva basin. The trail follows the ridges of the Jura before descending into the forest along the Journans for a cool finish. The Grande Marche populaire de Gex used to be a popular meeting place, attracting large numbers of walkers along a route rich in scenery. Even today, this route can be taken as far as Colomby de Gex (1,682 m), following the ridges of the Haute Chaîne. The route passes through a changing forest, from deciduous to coniferous, before reaching the mountain pastures, then descending peacefully along the Journans to the streets of Gex. Today, the route can still be walked as far as the Col de Branveau, offering magnificent views of the Haute Chaîne du Jura on one side and the Alps on the other. This is a nice family outing with a gentle gradient, allowing you to soak up the authenticity of the local heritage and architecture. From the center of Gex, the route passes through rural landscapes before reaching the village of Vesancy with its restored farmhouses, fountains and church of Saint-Christophe. The climb to Riantmont offers magnificent views over the valley and the Geneva basin. Built in 1868, the chapel is a place of pilgrimage for the region's faithful on Whit Monday. After a pleasant descent through the surrounding hamlets, the return to Gex offers a final opportunity to appreciate the diversity of scenery on this charming walk. Set off from the centre of Gex for a rural escapade to the charming village of Vesancy. This loop, accessible to families and dogs, offers a wide variety of landscapes and an immersion in the heritage of the Pays de Gex. The route first crosses open meadows before reaching Vesancy, with its restored farmhouses, fountains, château and Saint-Christophe church. A gradual climb then takes you to the heights of Riantmont, offering superb views over the valley and the Geneva basin. At the summit, the Riantmont chapel, built in 1868, offers a serene pause. This place of pilgrimage, particularly popular on Whit Monday, adds a spiritual touch to the hike. The descent takes you gently through the surrounding hamlets, for a leisurely return to Gex. It's an ideal way to discover the authenticity of the region while sharing a convivial moment with your four-legged friend.

Partly following the Journans river, the trail passes through the canyon of the mysterious Portes Sarrazines. is in an unspoilt environment, with its varied landscapes. This pleasant hike, accessible from April to November, follows the waters of the Journans. The “Au fil du bois” discovery trail highlights human activities linked to the forest and water. Finally, the Portes Sarrazines (Saracen Gates), framing a gorge formed by the river, take their name from a local legend: during the middle ages the inhabitants of Gex took refuge behind these stone gates during the Saracen invasions. The trail offers a diversity of landscapes, alternating between forest paths, roads and steep pathways. This accessible, family-friendly hike through forests and panoramic views offers a wonderful 360° view of both the Alps and the Jura from Mont Mourex. The trail passes through a pleasant forest before opening out to reveal an exceptional panorama from the Alps to the Jura. An orientation table helps you to identify the surrounding peaks. An intriguing stone circle, around 45m in diameter is presumed to have been dedicated to solar worship. At its center, a block of stone is said to have been deposited there by the Rhône glaciers during an ice age. It accentuates the enigmatic character of the site. The path descends gently through meadows.

Recommended for regular riders. You can also start from the Genêts campsite in Gex. 10 km circuit starting from Mourex, with a nice descent to the D.984c, which you cross (be careful!) before climbing to Vesancy. After a few hundred metres on tarmac, follow the Vie de l'Etraz to the outskirts of Péroset, from where you reach the Gex campsite. Pass along the railroad line, a short stretch of road before turning left onto a flat track and then a long climb to Mourex.

This natural site offers grandiose landscapes in a bucolic setting! The final ascent (15 to 20 min) to the summit of Monchanais at 1446 m a.s.l. offers 360° panoramic views of the Jura crests, the Alps, Mont Blanc and the Lake Geneva plain. The telecombi is a teleport with seats and cabins. The Télécombi du Mont Rond, coming from the Col de la Faucille, allows you to access the crests of the Haute Chaîne du Jura; it lifts you from 1323m to 1543m altitude. Once there, the hiker is only 30mn walk away to reach the Grand Mont Rond (1596m), and 2h for the Colomby de Gex (1689m). 2 blue pistes for all mountain biking are marked from the top of the télécombi. In winter, it allows snowshoe enthusiasts to reach the summits with ease and to enjoy the ridges. Please respect the regulations set up by the Natural Reserve of the Jura Range.

Voltaire hosted many personalities in his home for almost twenty years. As he declared himself the "innkeeper of Europe", he made Ferney the place to be for an elite who flocked from all over Europe. The last 20 years of Voltaire's life were spent in Ferney. The castle was completely rebuilt. He laid out the park, not reluctant to work the land with his own hands. From Ferney, Voltaire continued his fight against intolerance and wrote some 6,000 letters, the Dictionnaire Philosophique, des tragédies... As well as giving theatrical performances at the castle, he also received many visitors. His guests came from all over the Europe of the Enlightenment. To visit Voltaire's castle is to come and meet the playwright, the committed philosopher, with a lively and generous spirit, provocative and tolerant, with a humour that is sometimes fierce. The collection of Voltaire's works and objects is displayed in a setting that keeps the traces of his presence. In the park, take a diversion under the bower where Voltaire loved to stroll with his guests. When Voltaire, aged 65, acquired the lordship of Ferney in 1758, he described himself as having found a "miserable hamlet" where he had the house of his last years built, following the construction site closely. There Voltaire received many personalities for almost twenty years. As he declared himself the "innkeeper of Europe", then Ferney became the place to be for an elite who came from all over Europe. Of this remote retreat, he became an outspoken critic of the injustice of society and defended the victims of political and religious intolerance. When Voltaire wanted to see Paris again and died there in 1778, the hamlet of a few inhabitants turned into a prosperous city of a thousand souls for a long time.

The Monts Jura offers the ideal altitude for hiking between 900 and 1723 m. There are marked and maintained trails waiting for you. Since Lélex, the gondola lift La Catheline brings you to the crests of the Haute Chaîne du Jura; climbing from 900m to 1450m altitude. When you get there, you are only an hour and a half walk away from the Crêt de la Neige (172 3m), the highest point in the Jura. At Lélex and Crozet, both gondolas are equipped for MTB riding in summer. Both the Catheline and the Fierney allow mountain bikers to go back up easily and quickly in order to better enjoy the descent on both sides of the mountain! Please note: electric mountain bikes are not allowed in the Catheline gondola. It enables snowshoe enthusiasts to reach the summits easily and enjoy the crests in winter. The Saracen gates are a canyon created by the Journans river . You can visit it on the way to the Creux de l'Envers, near Gex. They are located within the Haute Chaine du Jura National Nature Reserve. You must comply with its regulations.

This magnificent waterfall flows all year round. It is located on the Creux de l'Envers road..

This boulder is an erratic block transported by the Rhône glacier around 15,000 years ago. It seems that the main face of the boulder has been partially flattened and two series of small holes have been dug into it, forming a cross. The boulder may have been placed here in memory of a local resident who had an accident on the way down from the quarry. The site is on the list of listed natural sites in the Ain department. It is also listed at European level.

Riantmont Chapel is a testimony of the local religious history and is also a beautiful point of view on the Leman valley and the Alpes. Since 1868, the chapel shelters the "Lady of Riantmont", guardian of the Pays de Gex. In 1854, Bishop Chalandon from Belley ordered his priests to erect a statue in honour of the virgin. Father Monet, from Vesancy, chose a place called Riantmont. They decided to build the statue at the top of this hill. Soon after, a pilgrimage was created, attracting the believers from the pays de Gex and Geneva. In 1868, the Bishops from Belley and Geneva decided to build the chapel. Pope Pie IX established this sanctuary for the protection of the Pays de Gex and Geneva. It is said that all the young people from Vesancy who went to war in 1870 came back alive thanks to the good protection of the Virgin. In 1875 the bell tower was built, and the chapel was more and more renowned for its miracles. In 1956 the centenary was celebrated by the Bishop of Belley and the local priests. A pilgrimage is held every Whit Monday.

To the south is the valley of the Rhône, just downstream from Geneva; to the west is Gex and the High Jura mountain range. At the top of Mount Mourex is a granite monolith, called an erratic, which was taken from the Alps and left here by the Rhône’s glaciers during one of the glaciation periods. It marks the centre of an old circle of stones, marks left by a cult that supposedly worshipped the sun.

Cessy pond is certified "Tourist pond" and accessible to disabled people. It is possible to fish pike, carp, trout... Labeled Ain Pêche, fishing is allowed (carp, pike, trout ...). Also accessible to people with reduced mobility.

The "Creux de l'Envers" is a very special geological structure located in the forest above Gex. The view on the Jura chain is beautiful and the nature is preserved. You can reach it by following the thematic path "Au fil du Bois" ("Through the woods"). Le Creux de l'Envers is part of the Haute Chaine du Jura National Nature Reserve. Its regulations must be respected.

Stay in a 19th century building, located in a ski resort and at the heart of the Jura mountain range, offering a wide range of outdoor activities in summer and winter. Every evening, Valérie proposes a menu based on local produce and specialities from elsewhere, with starter, main course, cheese and dessert, booked before 12 noon.

The center offers courses and activities according to the season: discovery class, snow class, multi-activities. The residence offers free rental of all or part of the premises, which include a professional kitchen, 2 catering rooms, an 80 m2 multi-purpose room, and four adaptable classrooms/activity rooms for educational stays in line with the teacher's/educator's/coach's pedagogical project. The vacation center combines four buildings, linked by corridors that allow you to move around without leaving the building. The accommodation comprises 90 places divided into 29 rooms (2 to 6 places) with shared sanitary facilities, including 2 PMR-accessible rooms with private sanitary facilities. The rooms are close to sanitary facilities equipped with washbasins and individual showers. The ESF can accompany you on mid-mountain hikes, ski tours, bike rides and snowshoe treks. The residence also caters for individuals, with overnight stays for hikers in the Dombes building.
