The loop follows part of the walking and cycling pathof Beaujolais which is a developed route, away from cars and reserved for bicycles, rollerblades, strollers ... 15 km long, it connects Beaujeu to Belleville-en-Beaujolais.

In 2018, Beaujolais was awarded the Géopark label. This UNESCO distinction recognizes exceptional geological heritage. The toughest loop in this area. The 15 km will not be easy for neophytes.

Departure from Place Limorin. Along the way, you'll come across a number of calvaries and the beautiful chapel of La Madeleine. Pedestrian route closed to motor vehicles. The Madeleine chapel already existed in the 16th century. Falling into ruin, it was renovated in 1938.

Old Hospital chapel. Apothecary's dispensary dating from the early 19th century. Triptych dating from the 16th century on display in the "tisanerie" (dispensary of herbal remedies). Nuns' workroom. You can also take a step back in time to 1900. Open to the public until 1939, the Apothecary's conserves a rare collection of 120 Meillonnas earthenware pots. The "La Lamentation" tryptic, housed in the tisanerie, was painted in 1527. You can stroll through a garden of medicinal plants, go back in time to 1900 with the exhibition space paying tribute to our ancestors, and also get to know Philibert Commerson, physician and naturalist to the king in the 18th century. Les Halles or covered marketplace in Châtillon-sur-Chalaronne were originally build in 1440 and were rebuilt in 1670 after a fire destroyed them. The structure measures 80m by 20m and a market is still held there every Saturday morning. After being destroyed by fire in 1670 Les Halles were rebuilt to the original design thanks to the diligence of the then mayor of Châtillon-sur-Chalaronne, Philibert Collet and the generosity of the Countess of Châtillon, Melle de Montpensier who was known as the ‘Grande Demoiselle’. The countess was a cousin of King Louis XIV and through her good offices the king allowed the people of Châtillon-sur-Chalaronne to take all the timber necessary for the reconstruction work from the surrounding forests.

A masterpiece of Romanesque art, it bears witness to the artistic and religious fervor of the late 11th century, and was built by the monks of Tournus. Trilingual audio guide inside. The Chalaronne originates at Villars-les-Dombes in the pounds of Birieux, Saint-Marcel and Lapeyrouse. The Chalaronne crosses 3 towns north of our territory : Saint-Etienne, Saint-Didier et Thoissey. In total, it measures 52 kilometers. In normal times its flow is modest but it can experience unexpected and destructive floods that have long been in the news.

Apothecary's decorated with superb walnut woodwork with a patina of age, perfectly highlighting the blue colbat of the Nivernais earthenware decorating the Renaissance-style sideboards. Visits on reservation only for groups of 4 to 25 people. Summer visits on reservation with the association "Les Amis du vieux Thoissey et de ses environs". Built within the Hospital between 1731 and 1735, the brown/red walnut woodwork covering all the walls is the work of Jean Noblet, master carpenter. The Loggias above the cupboards house a very rich collection of Nevers earthenware pots, with rich decorations in blue colbat, including 15 bottles, 19 pots for goats, 8 pots for guns, 17 pillboxes and a gourd. The transoms are painted with watercolors, one representing Cardinal Borromeo and the other St. Martha and the Tarrasque, patron saint of the sisters of the Hospital. The ceiling is painted with watercolors by Lugnot, on a marouflaged canvas; the central decoration, surrounded by a trompe-l'oeil baluster of octagonal shape, represents two cherubs and a curious Moorish character on a background of sky and cloud.

Completed in 1872, the Church of Saint Mary Magdalene presents a beautiful architectural unity. It houses a set of 7 paintings by the painter Daniel Sarrabat, dedicated to Mary Magdalene, patron saint of the town. Visits for groups by appointment. Located in the rue de l'Hôtel de Ville, the first church of Sainte Marie Madeleine was the former chapel of the castle, dedicated first to St Sébastien, then to Ste Madeleine. We do not know the date of its construction but it was rebuilt in 1611 and 1699. Messier Girié, priest and principal of the college, obtained in 1691 that this chapel was erected as a parish church and he became the first parish priest. In 1830, the project to build a new parish church was born. The 19th century taste for vast sanctuaries was reinforced by the damage inflicted by the disastrous flood of 1840. The site was found on Rue du Four (now Rue de l'Eglise) and the architect Berthier, who had already built the churches of Saint-Pierre de Mâcon and Mogneneins, was called in. The plans were drawn up in the Romanesque style, in agreement with the parish priest Pascal, who in 1867 laid the first stone and in 1872 the construction of the church was practically completed, only the bell tower and the spire were not yet built. The church of Thoissey was renovated in 2007 and now hosts, in the ambulatory, the recently restored works of Daniel Sarrabat.

Discover in the church, an exhibition of works by Daniel Sarrabat. Daniel Sarrabat was born in Paris in 1666, into a family of artists and scholars who encouraged him to develop his gifts. He spent two years at the Académie de France in Rome (currently Villa Medici) and obtained the first prize in Rome in 1688. On his return to France, he settled permanently in Lyon. Sir Girié, rector of the Royal College of Thoissey and parish priest, wished to embellish the church of Thoissey; he placed two commissions with the "famous" Lyonnais painter Daniel Sarrabat. The set is made up of six paintings dedicated to Marie-Madeleine, patroness of the Parish. First order in 1706: Mary Magdalene at the Pharisee, Mary Magdalene at the feet of Jesus (at Martha and Mary), Magdalene speaking to Jesus, in the form of a gardener. Second order in 1713: the meal at Simon the leper's, the resurrection of Lazarus, the Holy Women in the Sepulcher and two still lifes: the smoking censers The church of Thoissey was renovated in 2007 and now houses, in the ambulatory, the works by Daniel Sarrabat recently restored

The lifting of the port was built and raised between 1710 and1845. It is bordered on the 2 sides out of 900 m by 179 plane trees planted in 1808. It is the second alley of this type in France.

Church of the XIIth century with a bell tower of Romanesque-Byzantine style, rebuilt in 1870 on extension of the nave. Main wealth: arcature of its Romanesque apse forming 7 arcades, 4 of which are adorned with wall frescoes of the 12th century discovered and restored. Church whose apse is Romanesque and dates from the 12th century. It has frescoes dating from the same period which have been restored and are to this day the oldest in the department. Etang Prêle is a small nature reserve designed to welcome the public, with an observatory and a walking trail to discover the inhabitants of the pond. A family outing not to be missed. Etang Prêle is located in the commune of Chaneins et Valeins, between Dombes and Val-de-Saône. Covering an area of 12.7 ha, the site is owned by the Communauté de Communes de Dombes, which also manages it in conjunction with the communes concerned. This is a traditionally-managed Dombes pond. An observatory offers a glimpse of the pond's biodiversity, including great crested grebes, black-headed gulls, grey herons and egrets. An interpretation trail leads around the pond. More than 30 bird species are regularly observed on the site, including Little Egret, White Stork, Great Crested Grebe... Other amphibian species on the site include the Palmed Newt. In terms of flora, the vegetation is varied and mainly composed of rushes, phragmites and reedbeds. Several species of particular interest are present, including the Common Buttercup and the Brown Nutsedge. More generally, the Etang de Prêle represents a fish farming management issue which, like the other ponds in the Domb region, helps to maintain suitable sites for migratory stopovers and breeding of waterfowl. Etang Prêle is the perfect place for a family walk along its banks. Please note that to limit disturbance to birds, particularly in a nesting area, it is not possible to walk around the entire pond. An observatory is also available for discreet observation of the ballet of water birds. The pond is also an ideal spot for a picnic stop: tables and parking areas have been provided. Real natural and landscaped jewels of the Ain department, sites with the ENS "Espaces naturels sensibles" label are managed in such a way as to preserve the biodiversity they host and developed for opening to the public (barring exceptions due to the fragility of the environments).
