Old Hospital chapel. Apothecary's dispensary dating from the early 19th century. Triptych dating from the 16th century on display in the "tisanerie" (dispensary of herbal remedies). Nuns' workroom.You can also take a step back in time to 1900. Open to the public until 1939, the Apothecary's conserves a rare collection of 120 Meillonnas earthenware pots. The "La Lamentation" tryptic, housed in the tisanerie, was painted in 1527. You can stroll through a garden of medicinal plants, go back in time to 1900 with the exhibition space paying tribute to our ancestors, and also get to know Philibert Commerson, physician and naturalist to the king in the 18th century. Guided tours of the Apothecary's are available ONLY. The "Life in the Dombes in 1900" exhibition is open to the public on request. The gardens are freely accessible.

Les Halles or covered marketplace in Châtillon-sur-Chalaronne were originally build in 1440 and were rebuilt in 1670 after a fire destroyed them. The structure measures 80m by 20m and a market is still held there every Saturday morning.After being destroyed by fire in 1670 Les Halles were rebuilt to the original design thanks to the diligence of the then mayor of Châtillon-sur-Chalaronne, Philibert Collet and the generosity of the Countess of Châtillon, Melle de Montpensier who was known as the ‘Grande Demoiselle’. The countess was a cousin of King Louis XIV and through her good offices the king allowed the people of Châtillon-sur-Chalaronne to take all the timber necessary for the reconstruction work from the surrounding forests.

During the middle ages, the Dukes of Savoy turned Châtillon-sur-Chalaronne into a fortified town to protect their borders. They constructed 3 gates as part of these works of which only the Port de Villars remains today.The job of fortifying the town of Châtillon-sur-Chalaronne was started by Philippe I Duke of Savoy in 1273 and was completed in 1321 by Duke Ame V. The Porte de Villars or Villars Gate was built using a brick called ‘carrons savoyarde’ and you can still see the arrow slits and machicolation that were used in days gone by to defend the town. In 1709 the Porte de Villars was transformed into a residence and in 1926 it was declared a national monument.

Built in 1000, this is the cradle of the town of Châtillon. The originally modest construction was improved by successive feudal lords before being razed in 1598. Only parts of the ramparts remain. Beautiful panoramic view of the mediaeval town centre.
