This natural Voie Verte runs from Toulouse to L'isle Jourdain. It's a beautiful forest path that runs through the Bouconne national forest, 20km west of Toulouse, and provides a peaceful link to the Isle Jourdain lake. You can set off from Toulouse from Les Amidonniers via Blagnac and then follow the Voie Verte alongside the Airbus route (distance: 20km), then cross the Bouconne forest and head towards Mondonville, Lévignac and finally L'Isle Jourdain. We suggest starting from Mondonville. You can cross the forest using the existing mountain bike trails or go via Lévignac. This path, with its smooth gravel surface, is located in the middle of the woods, in the shade. It's an easy all-weather route for the whole family, with dirt paths in the forest that are ideal for mountain biking. There are plenty of walkers, but early in the morning you may spot deer and wild boar.

Mostly shaded, the route winds under oak and pine trees, offering a cool, soothing atmosphere, ideal for oxygenating in any season. Accessible to intermediate-level mountain bikers, the route alternates between rolling forest tracks, winding paths and a few more technical sections that spice up the outing without presenting any major difficulties. The gentle terrain keeps the pace pleasant, allowing you to contemplate the scenery and observe the local flora and fauna. There are a number of points of interest along the way. The route passes near the Verdier memorial, a discreet and moving place of remembrance, then leads to the Chappe telegraph tower, witness to the first long-distance communications network in French history. The Croix Saint-Dominique, nestling in the heart of the forest, is a peaceful place to stop for a break or a few photos. This trail is ideal for a sporty outing with family or friends, looking for a moment of disconnection close to nature, while discovering the historical heritage of the Bouconne forest.

Following the extension of the Canal du Midi, this itinerary allows both cyclists and hikers to discover some of the picturesque aspects of the Canal de Garonne, frequently used by canal-barges and rich in its historical heritage. This is an ideal cycling trail for biking with your children or among friends, having no particular difficulties involved. The Canal du Garonne locks are characterized by their perfectly parallel lateral sides (called “bajoyers” which are the masonry containment walls of the lock) that are unlike the locks of the Canal du Midi which are oval shaped. They were all built in 1840 at the time when the canal was dug and these locks were changed to the Fraycinet standards in 1973 in order to allow 38 metres barges to pass through. It is possible to begin anywhere on the cycle path along the canal which has signs indicating its direction from Toulouse. Along the way you can discover the town of Grenade, a former bastide with its magnificent covered marketplace.

This is the most photographed building in Toulouse! Its dome acts as a beacon for the city’s inhabitants, drawing the gaze by day and when it is dressed in lights at night. The marker of the Saint-Cyprien quarter, La Grave chapel was built around the XVIII Century on a gravel bank left by the River Garonne, which gives it its name. The Basilica of Saint-Sernin has been restored to its former splendour in recent days, with a contemporary rose window that lets the light in and floods the nave with a multitude of colours. Come and admire this monumental work designed by the artist Jean-Michel Orthoniel. One of the symbols of Toulouse, this basilica of brick and stone is certainly imposing. Majestic and luminous, it was built between the XI and XIV Centuries in honour of St Saturnin (or Sernin), the first bishop of the city. An important stop along the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela, it inspires reverence and its vast proportions are ideal for strolling past the numerous reliquaries. A 21 metre high nave whose barrel vault rests upon richly sculpted capitals leads you to the choir and its gold-plated wooden and marble canopy. In the richly decorated transepts you can discover some moving medieval frescoes. You can also access the crypts in which it is possible to admire, most notably, the enamel reliquary of the True Cross in the form of a sarcophagus.
