Discover Veyrier-du-lac with Yoann Conte Bord du Lac

Hike to one of the most famous lookouts on the lake and surrounding area. The loop takes you along a beautiful ridge route overlooking the famous limestone cliffs of Mont Veyrier, visible from Annecy. On this walk, you leave behind the shores of Lake Annecy and its soothing atmosphere. The magnificent ridge trail to the summit is well worth the effort: it's a challenging and sporting climb. Nevertheless, the shade of the pines and deciduous trees provides a pleasant coolness. These sometimes spread out to give a glimpse of the lake and its turquoise waters: a foretaste of the superb panoramas awaiting you at the summit. The ridge trail starts from the Col des Sauts: you follow the GRP Tour du lac d'Annecy. After a series of short climbs and descents, you'll come to Mont Veyrier, with its impressive sheer drop; Mont Baron, the highest point of the hike; and the old cable car, a vestige of the area's tourist popularity during the Belle Époque. This is the most beautiful panorama of the loop, with a breathtaking view of the lake and the Bauges on one side, and the Aravis mountains and Mont Blanc on the other. Two orientation tables allow you to discover or rediscover the surrounding peaks. The route continues down the Vallon des Contrebandiers, returning to the Annecy-le-Vieux marina via the heights of the village of Veyrier du Lac.

Summer season this hike will make you discover some panoramas of Lake Annecy and the old station of the cable car, while going through the Mont Veyrier and Mont Baron. This route can be hazardous in bad weather (heavy rain, frost, snow). It is a difficult and physical hike which will reward you with beautiful views over the lake, the Aravis range and Bauges Mountains... and the Mont Blanc.This stroll around the Lake is a must do ! Do not undertake with poor equipment or uninitiated children.

The circle of the lake - From the peninsula of Albigny to the Small Port of Annecy-le-Vieux suggests pursuing the circuit of the circle of lake for a route between lake and earth around the natural heritage and the history of the territory since 5000 years.

This short hike allows you to discover the forest at the bottom of Semnoz and to have a wonderful view of the Annecy Lake. You will overlook the "big lake" and starting by the Duingt Castle on the peninsula you will see the "small lake". Path registered with the PDIPR (Departmental Plan for walking and hiking routes). By a short detour it also allows access to the animal park the "Grande Jeanne". Advice You will find public toilets at the start of this hike in the parking lot "Létraz". It is located along the departmental road RD 1508 in front of a small campsite. The lake is only about a 100 m from the parking. Why not make a detour to enjoy the view, the coolness of the water or to discover the new layout of the "Promenade des Borenges"… Recommendations Adapt your hike based on your physical abilities, weather conditions and road conditions. You are responsible for your own safety. Respect the private properties, close the gates behind you. Keep your dogs on a leash. Respect the natural spaces that you cross, do not leave your waste. A lovely pastoral circuit that takes you over the Pont de l'Abîme. Departure point / TER: Annecy Length: 74 km Difficulty: red Total ascent: 620 m Direction: clockwise Landmarks and connections: Cusy (continuation to Aix-les Bains via route no. 51); Rumilly (possible connections with routes 12, 13, 14 and 15) TER station: Rumilly (with possible return train to Annecy) Please note that the Pont de l'Abime is currently closed until summer 2027. To complete this loop, after Gruffy, follow the signs for Allèves, cross the Chéran at the Pont de Banges, then head back in the direction of Cusy. To reach the famous Pont de l'Abîme, first take the D5 from Annecy (ZI du Vovray, route de Vieugy). You'll then follow the rolling hills of the Semnoz, on the edge of the Massif des Bauges regional nature park, until you cross the Chéran torrent at a height of almost 100 metres, with a view of the Tours Saint-Jacques, astonishing isolated cliffs overlooking the gorge. Pictures to be taken! Past the village of Cusy, you'll have the pleasure of crossing a small, easy pass, the Goléron, before descending rapidly into the heart of the Albanais region. Crossing the national road at St-Félix requires a little caution. The quiet départementale 53 then takes you to the outskirts of Rumilly, home of the Téfal factories since 1961 (with factory outlet!). Once you've reached the Place d'Armes, you'll be directed to Rue du Pont Neuf. But it would be a shame to follow the signs without discovering the town! Turn left into Place de l'Hôtel de Ville with its arcades. From there, stroll with bike in hand through the little streets and squares with their Renaissance facades. You're sure to find a welcoming terrace for a break! You'll return on the D16, known as the Route des Creuses, where you'll need to keep your wits about you until you reach the hairpin bends crossing the stream of the same name. After a second winding valley, at the first roundabout you'll be directed to Annecy via the quiet lanes of the Seynod commune.

Recommended for cycle tourists passing through the area via Chambéry, Les Echelles and Valence. Goes via the Pont de l'Abîme. Direction of travel: north/south Landmarks and connections: Cusy (junction with Circuit de l'Albanais no. 11) TER station: Aix-les-Bains Please note that the Pont de l'Abime is currently closed until summer 2027. To complete this loop, after Gruffy, follow the signs for Allèves, cross the Chéran at the Pont de Banges, then head back towards Cusy. This low-difficulty connecting route has many attractions. Firstly, it allows you to visit the spa town of Aix-les-Bains Aix-les-Bains and, above all, to Lac du Bourget. On foot or by bike, you can stroll between the Grand Port and the Petit Port along more than a kilometer of shaded esplanade. What's more, the TER will take you directly back to Annecy. Optional: You can extend the route as far as Chambéry (some 20 km of flat, landscaped road, part of it along the lake and the rest on a greenway). You can also return by train, or if you prefer, you can explore the signposted circuits of Savoie, starting with the Tour du Lac du Bourget and its variants. In this case, you can take advantage of the many accommodation options available in Aix-les-Bains or Le Bourget-du-Lac (including camping). Another advantage is that it offers a superb section for long-distance cyclists from Switzerland or Germany, for example, on their north-south journey (which generally continues via Les Echelles, Valence and the Rhône Valley for some, or via the Maurienne, the Fréjus rail tunnel and Italy for others). In all cases, this connecting route passes over the spectacular site of the Pont de l'Abîme, which also makes it interesting in its own right. After the bridge and the crossing of Cusy, the route is entirely downhill, along the Sierroz torrent, with a few beautiful curves set in gorges.

One of three sports crossings of a beautiful link which lengthens between Aix-les-Bains and Seyssel, with possibility of a small pedestrian ascent in the summit Direction : clockwise. Landmarks and connections: Rumilly (common route from Annecy with the Boucle du Fier n°15 ); Chautagne villages in common with the other two crossings of the triptych; Val-de-Fier (common route with the Boucle du Fier at the exit from the gorges). TER station: Rumilly (allowing you to skip the first 20 km of flat terrain). Description : this Traversée differs from the other two (Chambotte n°12 and Sapenay n°13) from Rumilly, where you follow the Boucle du Fier n°15 for 4 km on the RD31 to the Bauriant bridge. From here, the road gradually climbs via the RD317 and RD231 to the thick Clergeon state forest. The road culminates at 979 m, the highest of the three Traversées. To reach and exceed 1000 m, you can take a short, signposted walk to the Clergeon cross (bring sneakers instead of wedges!). The view from the summit rock over Lac du Bourget, which appears like a Norwegian fjord, is astonishing, while on the other side, behind the Albanais plain, the Aravis massif and Mont-Blanc can be seen as a backdrop. Be careful on the descent! At the halfway point, the gradient exceeds 10% for two kilometers, and this plunge into the Chautagne region takes place in front of a "monster" of mountain bike touring: the Grand Colombier. If this is your next objective, the ascent to Le Clergeon in the opposite direction will be a good preparation! Once you've reached the plain, you'll find the common routes of Traversées de la Chambotte n°12 and Traversées du Sapenay n°13, which you'll follow through the Val-de-Fier gorges, before joining Boucle du Fier n°15 and returning to Annecy.

One of the oldest greenways in France. It allows you to discover an exceptional environment. Its first part is built alongside the lake and its beaches. An independent path shared with roller-skaters and pedestrians for a return trip away from road traffic. Path: north/south. Landmarks and connections: Saint-Jorioz (crossing the Leschaux Circuit n°8) ; Faverges (separation with the Tamié Circuit n°48) ; possibility in Marlens to go on to the Savoie greenway up to Ugine. Description: this is probably one of the oldest greenways in France, offering an independent 35km-long path. Starting from the Paquier grass area, and after crossing the pont des Amours and cycling along the marina, you can then find the greenway’s start, near the Marquisats. The track is set between the lake and the Semnoz mountain’s foothills: you can reach several beaches from Sevrier and Saint-Jorioz (bathing, water activities). A little bit further, you find yourself in Duingt. At the intersection with the road leading to Entrevernes, there is a rest area, right at the foot of the climbing site. After crossing the small tunnel, the Maladière area is suitable for a break allowing you to discover the surrounding mountains (la Tournette – among others – culminating at 2351m). In Bredannaz, after 14km of cycle path, another rest area is at your disposal with picnic tables, restrooms and water available. A steam locomotive is displayed so as to remind you that the cycle path was built on an old railway. Once you get to Doussard, you can find one last beach before the cycle path leads you further away from the lake, towards Faverges (24km from the start). Take the time for a stroll in the Bout du Lac nature reserve, a large area of wetlands home to more than 650 plant and emblematic animal species, including the beaver. You can follow the reserve’s path, marked with educational boards/signs. In Marlens, you can leave the path by taking right to reach the artificial lake with its small leisure centre (picnic area, petanque ground…) Soon after Marlens, you enter the Savoie department and finally arrive in Ugine which marks the end of the greenway after 35km.

From Les Puisots, the loop continues on the Sévrier side to return to your starting point. La Croix du Crêt offers a beautiful backdrop with a breathtaking view of the lake. As soon as summer arrives, the Marquisats grass beach is a spot highly-prized by the townspeople and holidaymakers alike. Sailing, canoeing and rowing clubs are just a stone's throw away. Easily accessible by bus and directly from the cycle path. Thanks to a range of facilities, this beach enables people with disabilities to get from the car park to the lake completely independently. The Grande Jeanne is a park stretching over 10 500 m2 and which hosts two species of non-domestic animals: 19 fallow deers and 9 red deers and about 20 Corsican mouflons.
