Built by the transient fortune of two financiers at the end of Louis XIV’s reign, this chateau is a model of eighteenth century architecture and decoration. The most famous occupier was the Marquise de Pompadour, who rented the chateau for three years in 1757, spending a considerable amount on it. The century which followed saw the chateau passing from hand to hand before being acquired by Count Louis Cahen d’Anvers, who spent a fortune on restoring it. The Count’s son gifted the chateau and land to the State in 1935 and it became one of the official residences of the French Republic. Many kings and heads of State were welcomed there. The architect Jean Baptiste Bullet endeavoured to improve domestic layout by building rooms that no longer communicated with each other, an innovation. For the first time, there were ante-rooms and dressing rooms, and hidden staircases for access to the servants’ quarters. The novelty of a dining room specially reserved for taking meals was also an improvement. In the salons and rooms on the ground floor and first floor, exquisite furniture and refined decorations can be seen. The Chinese salon has panels painted by Huet that illustrate the oriental tastes of the eighteenth century. Visitors will see a delightful portrait of the Marquise dressed as a gardener on their tour.

The golf course provides two 18 holes parts: the part Vignoly designed by Arnold Palmer offers a real challenge: valleys and 14 ponds as well as 63 bunkers. This part is shaped for national and international competitions and open for regular players. The part allows to spend one or more days in an exceptional leisure setting. The Montpichet part is more flat with fruit trees it is of nice quality and nicely and skilfully maintained. He simple ambiance and calm make the assets of this part open to experienced players as well as to beginners. Satisfy your curiosity and follow the footsteps of Gustave Caillebotte himself, since it is here, in the family resort, that the painter planted his easel in open air and painted nearly 90 paintings in the summers of the 1870s. The Caillebotte property is a public garden located in the city center. It is now open to public and is as much a resting place as an invitation to discover a rich historical heritage: the famous "ornamental factories" that dot this beautiful park have almost all been restored. The Caillebotte house can also be visited. In the 1830s, the Caillebotte Property layout followed the principles in vogue: a site chosen for its undulating valleys, its vegetable wealth. The sinuous alleys lead the visitor to the "ornamentation factories", small constructions of varied architectures. The river skirting the domain traces the northen limit. The property Caillebotte is harmoniously integrated into the countryside landscape that once characterized the small village of Yerres. Rich owners, from Borrel to Caillebotte, gave a beautiful look to this sublime English garden. Today, the public garden offers to the visitor an exceptional geographical situation, its preserved views, beautiful trees and all curiosities that history patiently composed. The Yerres river banks kept their charm. The pictorial presence of Gustave Caillebotte, still identifiable, brings a higher dimension to this place of heritage, which bears the name of an artist and exceptional man. The Caillebotte's House is located at the geographical center of the municipality of Yerres. Typical of the 19th century, it was built in the 1830's, in the "English" style with an irregular layout.

The ancient domain of the Rothschild family has become for its forest parts a regional forest. Majestic trees and ponds as well as alleys created for hunting in geometrical schemes form a nice setting for walkers. Deer and wildlife is preserved and forest settings around Ferrières are a nice leisure area for inhabitants and tourists. The Ile de France commission for nature areas and parks is in charge of this forest and locally points out some nice walking paths to discover this environment.

Between the Marne and farmland, the Forêt régionale des Vallières grows on the underground galleries of former gypsum quarries. Perched on a hillside, this forest overlooks the regional leisure island of Jablines-Annet (77) and is home to remarkable biodiversity. Because of its ornithological interest, the Forêt régionale des Vallières is fully included in the Natura 2000 site “Les boucles de la Marne”, under the Birds Directive. It is also a refuge for many species of bat. The site is managed by Île-de-France nature, which organizes themed nature events throughout the year.

In 1825, Jean-Antoine-Brutus Menier acquired the Noisiel mill and three hectares of land. This site is at the origin of the creation of a factory for the industrial production of chocolate. The manufacturing site has undergone several phases of transformation since the arrival of the Meniers in 1825 and the presence of a mill designed to grind pharmaceutical substances. From the 1860s, the business became a real industrial complex where the organisation of the manufacturing space was completely redesigned. The buildings were then arranged in accordance with the manufacturing process. The design of the mill by Jules Saulnier (1878-1881) is a successful collaboration between "Art Nouveau" architecture from the end of the 19th century and industrial functionality. The industrial complex was completed from 1874 with the construction of a workers' city. Up to 1924, the reconstructions and new buildings, made necessary by the expansion of production, perfectly integrated the technical progress of the 19th century, as well as an exceptional architectural aesthetic. After the departure of the Menier family in 1960, the lands of the complex were sold to several successive groups. The old Menier chocolate factory was converted into a head office by the Nestlé-France SAS group in 1996. This conversion, carried out by the architects Reichen and Robert, is based on "the dialogue between contemporary and ancient architecture". The buildings of the first Menier factories now belong to the French industrial heritage and have been listed as historic monuments since 1986.

The park of château Champs-sur-Marne is one of the most beautiful gardens in the Ile-de-France region. The formal French garden and the English garden cover 85 hectares. The formal French Garden was designed around 1710 by Claude Desgot nephew and pupil of Le Nôtre a famous landscape gardener and creator of the Versailles gardens. The English Gardens are formed around wide lawns, decorated with sculptures and offer a great variety of trees. There are black Austrian Pine trees, Redwood trees, very old lime trees and many other species which the visitors may discover.

The native place of Louis Braille is situated in this typical village in a street bearing his name. The house was turned into a museum in 1959, classified as national monument it has conserved its authentically setting and aspect. The museum is run by the world organisation for blind, the French comity Louis Braille and the township of Coupvray, owner of the place. In 2009 a new entrance hall was set up in the former barn building it is named after “Jean Roblin ” founder of a local association, which has conserved this place before it became a museum. Louis Braille is born here in on January 4th 1809. At the age of 3 the boy hurt his eye using the tools of his father a saddle marker. The infection passed to the second eye and the boy goes blind t the age of 5. He is a brilliant student in the village school, which he left at the age of 10 in order to continue his studies in Paris at the royal institution for blind. There Louis Braille elaborates and teaches his system of writing based on six raised points namely for music also. 1835 Louis Braille has tuberculosis of which he dies in 1852. First buried in the local cemetery close to his family his corps is brought to the Pantheon in 1952 for a national tribute to his invention. There is a reliquary of his hands on the funeral monument in Coupvray.
