Immerse yourself in a history as you walk from the banks of the river Gardon to Mas Soubeyran, a museum of French Protestantism. You will be able to enjoy far-reaching views onto the Puechs, Mont Aigoual, Mont Liron and, on clear days, even the Alps. From the car park, turn right onto the D 50, cross the Pont des Camisards bridge and turn left towards Le Travès / Paussan. Then head for Mas Soubeyran via La Roquette. At Mas Soubeyran, take the path on the right to reach La Baumelle gully, which leads to the mas (farm) of the same name. Walk past the mas on its right and continue on the track to join up with the road. Turn right onto the road and after 250 m turn left on a path towards La Rouvière. At La Rouvière, turn left onto a fire road (DFCI) and take a path on the left that goes downhill into Roquefeuille gully. Cross the bridge, take the road on the left and then a small path on the right that will lead you back to Mialet.

Ces parcours permettent de découvrir de nombreux sites et villages, des grands causses aux monts et vallées Espace Cyclosport Massif de l'Aigoual : Au départ du village de Lasalle, passez sous le château du Solier (monument à l'histoire singulière) direction de Ste-Croix-de-Caderle, en démarrant par une bonne en montée. Puis bifurquez à gauche en passant par les hameaux Les Cabrols et Les Horts. Suivre ensuite la direction de Soudorgues par une belle montée en lacets. A Soudorgues, le plus dur est fait, il ne vous reste qu’à vous laissez glisser jusqu’à La Coste, et descendre par une route un peu "cabossée" en direction de Lasalle. Soyez vigilants. A la belle saison, une pause agréable dans la rivière "La Salindrenque" s'impose. A walk through history that takes you back to the time of the Camisard revolt, when Roland, a Camisard leader, was madly in love with Marthe Bringuier, who lived in the Château de Cornély... the great adventure of silk in the Cévennes, and the 12 Lasalle spinning mills that line the river... and the maquisards who, during the Second World War, formed groups of STO resistance fighters... Today, Lasalle is a peaceful village, and the views all along the trail will open up to you. The trail leaves the village center and climbs to the heights of Lasalle. Cross the village and join the right bank of the Salindrenque. Along the way, you'll find bits and pieces of the region's history through its landscape and the work of man. This walk winds through the lowest foothills of the Cevennes, where the limestone of the piedmont plain meets the granite slopes of Mont Liron. From the car park, head towards La Pierre Plantée / Mairie de Soudorgues via Les Quatre Chemins. Pass the mairie and then the temple (Protestant church). At the crossroads, turn left towards Col de Cabane Vieille / La Pierre Plantée. At the fork, continue towards Col de Cabane Vieille / Le Four à Chaux. The road leads to a hairpin bend. At the apex of the bend, a small path leads you to the lime kiln (do not enter the walled-in area – the site is dangerous). Take the GR63 long-distance hiking path on your left for about a hundred metres, then take the path on the right, which crosses to the other slope further on, to the rocks signposted Col du Mercou / Sous le Mauripe. Shortly afterwards, a signpost points left into the rocks Col du Mercou / Serre des Ubacs. This is where you start your climb to the summit of Mauripe. The path switches back and forth between the Salindrenque side and the Mercou side. At the top, take the path that winds left, then curves to the right. The descent, which is rather steep, leads to the Serre des Ubacs in a few minutes. Turn right towards Col du Mercou / Mercou. The path on which you return to Soudorgues / Les Quatre Chemins, forks off to the right towards Le Moina. Head back to the car park by following "Soudorgues / Mairie de Soudorgues".

For 4 generations now, this family campsite welcomes you in the heart of the Cevennes between Anduze and Saint Jean du Gard, in the Mialet valley. It is located along the river and has its own private beach. The establishment located at the edge of the Cevennes National Park offers a wide range of activities for the whole family. It has a direct access to the river with a private beach, an aquatic complex of more than 600m² with a swimming pool of 250 m², a heated swimming pool with 4 slides including a kamikaze, an aqualudic space of 250 m² for the youngest with many water games and a new slide with sensation, the Tobbo-jump of 11m high. As for other activities, you will find a multi-sports field, an 18-hole mini golf course, a fitness area, a bowling alley with 12 courts, a games library and a children's playground accessible from the opening of the campsite. Activities for children from 3 to 5 years old and 6 to 10 years old, for teenagers from 11 to 14 years old and 15 to 18 years old as well as sports and leisure activities and big family games are organized in July and August, 6 days a week in our air-conditioned yurt. In high season, evening shows, karaoke, open-air cinema, dancing, themed evenings and bingo are organized. The Parc des Cordeliers is the former garden of the Franciscan convent, also called Cordeliers, with an area of 4 hectares. Its main entrance is on Avenue Rollin. The Parc des Cordeliers is very appreciated for its calm and the beauty of its species as well as its freshness thanks to its various springs and ponds. Following the paths, walkers will discover the typical trees of the region but also less common species such as the Himalayan cedar, the Virginia tulip tree, the Japanese cryptomeria, the purple beech or the Canary oak which is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful specimens in Europe. A botanical trail, available free of charge at the reception desk of the Anduze tourist information office, allows you to discover this park. There is the Bust of Clara d'Anduze, the Plaque of the poet Florian, the poet and writer Henri Barbusse (1873-1935) and the resistance fighter Marcel Bonnafoux (1910-1942) as well as the war memorial. It also hosts playgrounds for children. Free entrance, open all year round.

The Desert, a strange name for a museum! You will know the meaning by visiting this unique place in the Cevennes. More than 3000 rare objects, weapons, maps, paintings and books are exposed, witnesses of the resistance of the Protestants during the War of the Camisards. Located in the heart of a Cévennes hamlet, in the house where the Camisard leader Pierre Laporte, known as Rolland, was born, the Musée du Désert aims to bring to life the Huguenot past and the history of the Camisards. With its numerous documents and authentic objects, it is the largest and richest museum of Protestant history. It celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2011. By visiting the Desert Museum, you explore the period of the "Desert" (1685-1787) from the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes to the Edict of Toleration. You will learn about the daily life of the Huguenots living in hiding and relive their long march towards freedom of conscience until the revolution. You will also understand the evolution of Protestantism, from its birth with the Reformation in 1517, until today. The Musée du Désert is also the starting point of the international path "In the footsteps of the Huguenots", a cultural route of the Council of Europe since 2013.

Very old mills for producing oil, wool and flour border the Valat de Baumelle gully. Note the mill pond (Occitan: gorga) at the edge of the path and backing onto the mill. The inhabitants of Luziers laid out their vegetable plots on the many terraces you can still see on either side of the path. The uppermost terraces – the “dry gardens”  – were reserved for crops needing little water: broad beans, lentils, peas, etc. Other vegetables were planted on terraces that lay closer to the waterway. They were irrigated using a system of terracotta pipes connected to small basins. (Nelly Bernard)

The idea for a “Museum of the Wilderness” goes back to 1880, when the Société de l'histoire du protestantisme français launched a subscription to buy the birthplace of the Camisard leader Roland (real name: Pierre Laporte). […] In 1910, the Musée du Désert was created as a memorial site to trace the history of Protestantism from 1685 to 1789 and its fight against the French regime's intolerance. […] It is intended to bear witness to the past and promote awareness of the spiritual and cultural heritage that shaped the Cevenol mentality. Every first Sunday in September, almost 20,000 people gather in the shade of the oaks at Mas Soubeyran to hold a Protestant service – the so-called Gathering in the Wilderness. (Nelly Bernard)

Alongside the paths grows a plant whose name, at least, is known to all those who remember La Fontaine's fable of the Hare and the Tortoise: “Pray take, your senses to restore / A grain or two of hellebore”. Hellebore, also known as dungwort, is toxic – but it does not cure madness as popular belief had it. This member of the buttercup family is evergreen and can be identified in winter by its pale green leaves, which are spear-shaped and palmately lobed. […] Its pale green flower stalk has bracts and dies after flowering; it appears in February to March. It is embellished with five greenish petals with a red edge and ten petals of a rather unpleasant nectary shape. Shepherds hung it in sheepfolds and used it to treat abscesses and sheep scab. Legend has it that this humpback bridge was built from 1702 to 1704 by Jean Cavalier, a leader of the Protestant Camisard uprising against the Catholic King. And a legend is all it is. It was constructed a decade later, from 1714 to 1718, when Louis XIV's Intendant, a Monsieur de Basville, decided to develop the road network in the Cevennes. The diocese of Alès was responsible for funding a large share of the construction, and the inhabitants of Mialet were forced to participate through work our paying taxes.
