Technique against the backdrop of the Pyrenees Challenging due to its distance and technicality, this circuit will take you through our countryside where you can admire endless fields of crops with the Ariège Pyrenees as a backdrop. You will pass by charming villages such as La Bastide-de-Lordat, Le Carlaret, Les Issards and Les Pujols. This route perfectly combines physical activity with a beautiful environment. This very easy route is ideal for a short family outing or your first attempt at mountain biking. You will follow easily accessible paths that will introduce you to the crops, livestock and some of the heritage of our countryside. When you return from this route, you will undoubtedly be hooked on mountain biking and will want to tackle longer circuits without hesitation. Route: loop around La Tour-du-Crieu.

Accessible in all seasons, it winds through the countryside and takes you to Saint-Amadou, where you can take a refreshing break near the magnificent covered wash house. Walk starting from the village. A varied path alternating between tracks and woodland approaches, with a number of viewpoints. The hamlet of Monteillas is surrounded by a whole series of stream losses; small openings through which water rushes and becomes underground after a journey on the surface. The best-known example of this in the Ariège is the cave at Mas d'Azil. But the rivers of the periglacial age were much larger!

A 106 kilometer road itinerary designed to help you discover the Garonne river valley from village to village. The easy slopes involved allow family outings or enjoying doing it with friends. This cycling itinerary allows you to go from Cierp-Gaud, in the foothills of the Pyrenees mountains, to Carbonne, by following the Garonne River. It's in the Comminges, former Gascony province where the Garonne grows bigger. From being simply a fast stream in the Pyrenees to becoming a branch river and finally a major waterway... Several access points are possible all along this itinerary. Don't miss stopping along the way to see picturesque villages such as Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges, Saint-Gaudens or even Saint-Martory.

Departing from the small village of Contrazy, this pleasant hike will take you between forest and open views, to contemplate the hills of the foothills topped by the Pyrenean massif. This walk will take you to the highest point in the Volvestre Ariègeois at an altitude of 698 m (signposted). This walk begins on a very pretty path leading up to the ‘old canton of St Girons’. As you follow this boundary, you'll be treated to a beautiful panoramic view of the hilly commune of Montesquieu-Avantès and its farms scattered throughout the landscape. At the end of the forest (marked by a milestone), you will know that you are at the meeting point of three cantons, Le Mas d'Azil to the east, St Girons to the south and Ste Croix to the west, and four communes, Camarade, Montesquieu-Aventès, Contrazy and Mauvezin de Ste Croix. On the way back to Contrazy, just before the village, you'll discover a magnificent view of Lasserre and the Pyrenees, overlooking the church at Montardit. You can also enjoy a view of the fir forest, which in autumn offers a patchwork of colours from the dark green of the firs to the shimmering colours of the broad-leaved trees.

This castle witnesses the regional history of Toulouse; Indeed it represents the passage between the individualistic architectural currents of the Hundred Years War and the emergence of the French Renaissance, thus transforming a stronghold into a habitable place. The current version of the château has a rectangular floor plan with 4 round towers at the corners, and has all the features of a 14th-century medieval château that was modified during the French Renaissance. In the early 19th century, the castle was completely restored by its owners.

A must-see for your visit to Pamiers! Built in the 12th century at the foot of the now-destroyed castle, the church of St-Jean Baptiste and St-Jean l'Evangéliste, which became Notre Dame du Mercadal in the 15th century, was the town's first church, and all that remains of the 12th-century building is the Romanesque portal adorned with capitals depicting biblical scenes. In the 14th century, the Mercadal church was enlarged. The superb bell tower, inspired by the Jacobin bell tower in Toulouse, was built at this time. The Hundred Years' War, the Navarre War of Succession and local conflicts led to the looting and destruction of the cathedral. Reconstruction work began around 1662, but was halted due to a lack of funds. It resumed in 1685. The church was consecrated on 9 January 1689. The single nave building is simple and majestic. The interior woodwork, paintings and silverware give it a prestigious character. In 1777, the church was fitted with a large organ from the Daurade church in Toulouse, housed in a remarkable 18th-century case that has been listed as a Monument Historique. Major work was carried out on the bell tower and roof between 1833 and 1875. Saint-Antonin Cathedral was listed as a Historic Monument on 9 August 1906.

The Mas-Vieux Saint-Antonin chapel, built on the Cailloup site on the left bank of the Ariège, is the oldest religious building in the town of Pamiers. The church was built between 1110 and 1120 and was damaged in the 16th century during the Wars of Religion. The residential buildings date from the 17th and 18th centuries. In 1791, the building became a farm for two centuries. In 1989, the property was bought by the town of Pamiers, and in 1992 the building was listed as a historic monument, which was restored between 0998 and 2001. The interior decoration of the church, dating from the 12th century, contains unique elements of Romanesque art.

The first traces of the castle date back to the 14th century. At that time, a tower and perhaps a "castrum" controlled a crossing point at the confluence of the Arize and a stream, the Pas du Rat, forming the border between the counties of Toulouse and Foix. At that time, Palays was a small fortress of plain in the quadrilateral form made up of brick walls crowned with battlements on false machicolations served by a covered way and flanked by four round towers. Ditches protected the bottom of the walls, defended by numerous guns; a drawbridge allowed access to the vast interior courtyard. Wooden galleries, now disappeared, skirted the wall, except on the South East side where was the modest stately home framed to the South by a vaulted Chapel and to the East by the master tower.

This church belonged to the Abbey of Mas d'Azil through a donation from a certain Amélius, around 1085. The porch and the bell tower are from this period. The reconstruction of the rest of the building and the murals are from the 15th century. The Romanesque bell tower is a wall bell tower. The southern part of the front porch is occupied by a small oratory with a ribbed vault. The largest part of the painted decoration covers the entire choir and the north wall, the latter being a remnant of the first Romanesque construction.

The chef, Christian Lagarde, represents the 5th generation of the family. Its specialties are dishes in sauce and local products: civets, cassoulets, navarins ... The range of the menu is extended, prices range from 12 euros to 34 euros or more. Reservation recommended on weekends and evenings.
