Hiking trail "des Puys". The village of Calvinet has a rich historical past. The first origins date back to 1250 with Eustache Beaumarchais, bailiff of the Mounts of Auvergne. This easy circuit will allow you to appreciate the traditional architecture and to discover superb views: Château de La Mothe, Aubrac and Aveyron plateaux, Rance Valley and the village of Saint-Antoine. A tour that will allow you to appreciate many typical villages in the heart of the Châtaigneraie such as Calvinet, your starting point (at the church) or the ‘chestnut village’, Mourjou. There are superb viewpoints on a very varied route, including the Aubrac plateau, the north of Aveyron and the Rance Valley. Numerous rich and varied panoramas due to a fairly long circuit crossing several different types of landscape (forest, plain, countryside, towns).

Hiking trail “The Four Valleys”. Charming village of the Châtaigneraie, Boisset awaits you for a tormented hike from one valley to another. This is an opportunity to admire superb panoramas of the Châtaigneraie and the Mounts of Cantal, as well as the Chapel of Notre-Dame-du-Pont, a magnificent 12th century building with 14th and 15th century frescos. Hiking trail "The Chestnut trees". This walk will help you discover the hidden treasures of the traditional architecture of the Châtaigneraie, from the 16th century church to the beautiful farms with closed courtyards and entrance porches. The chestnut is celebrated every year in October during the famous Chestnut Fair which attracts thousands of visitors. You can also visit the Maison de la Châtaigne, a museum dedicated to the fruit of the “breadfruit” tree. Hiking trail “The Treasures of the Upper Célé”. This path is closely linked to the Maison de la Châtaigne, which you can visit. Very shaded, it will lead you to the discovery of the Haut-Célé Gorge. You will appreciate the variety of environments, the diversity of the vegetation, you will guess the presence of animals and imagine the action of man in this landscape. Mountain bike route "From River Gour to the carriérous". The paper version of the hiking map is available from our Information Points. Starting out from the small, characterful village of Marcolès, this loop will allow you to discover the rich architectural and natural heritage of the area around the historic village. This route, with its varied sections, takes you to the market town of Vitrac via a number of wooded and shady areas. Although accessible to all, this route has a few sections that will delight mountain bikers, with some winding descents and a sometimes marked relief. Although the majority of the route is through woodland, you'll also appreciate the pretty views over the surrounding countryside, right in the heart of the Châtaigneraie Cantalienne.

In the heart of the Châtaigneraie Cantalienne, a family and rolling circuit around the medieval village of Marcolès and its remarkable architectural heritage (Departure: Parking de l'An 2000). Discover the outskirts of Marcolès and Saint-Antoine via a mountain bike route rich in shaded forest areas. Magnificent views of the surrounding countryside punctuate this generally very rolling route.

Hiking trail "The goat path". Fortified as early as the 12th century, the village of Marcolès was built in the 15th century in the centre of a circular enclosure which was entered through two gates opening onto the Rue Longue. Along this street are some beautiful Renaissance facades. The carriérous, picturesque lanes, will lead you to the church of St. Martin, an imposing building in the southern Gothic style which also contains a rich statuary. This path will lead you to discover the surroundings of Marcolès, in the shade of the forest. The Chapelle Notre Dame du Pont, nestled in a green setting on the banks of the Rance, in the commune of Leynhac, dates back to the 12th century. The chapel contains magnificent frescoes from the 13th - 15th centuries, as well as a 17th-century gilded Virgin Mary. A place of in the heart of the Châtaigneraie. L'Association Marguerite & Joseph Clauzet des amis de la Chapelle du Pont will show you around the chapel and tell you its history on Thursday throughout the summer.

Entraygues Castle dates back to the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries. Various elements are included in the historic-monuments register such as the walls and roofs, beautiful carved doors, French painted ceilings, wallpapers... Outside, free visit of the fancy garden.

Warning: Swimming and fishing prohibited from 15/08 - presence of cyanotoxins. L’Estanquiol: free swimming area supervised in July and August everyday afternoons. Fishing activity (1st category = whitefish): Specific local card on sale at the Calvinet post office: 5 trout per day, €6 per adult per day or €40 per season. Subject to suitable bathing and fishing conditions.

The Rocks of Faulat are located 2 km from Marcolès, in the direction of Boisset. This megalith is located in the middle of the forest and contrary to what one might think, it is indeed of natural origin! Formed by the erosion of this volcanic rock during the previous millennia, the stone split and rolled to finally obtain what we can see today.

The fortress that once overlooked Calvinet must have been quite a sight. Don't look for it, it was razed to the ground four centuries ago, but the village has retained all its character, and it's easy to guess that it knew glorious times:

Marcolès, a medieval town fortified in the 12th century, has preserved its two gates linked by the Rue Longue. L'Auberge de Mourjou, with its restaurant and guest rooms, has been open since 18 March 2024. Daily menu (€19,90) from Monday 12pm to Friday 2pm. Chef Kara Asatryan's menu (€39) is available for lunch and dinner on Saturdays and lunch on Sundays. Booking recommended. The chef's menu consists of a choice of two starters, a choice of two main courses and a choice of two desserts. The menu changes every 2 weeks according to the season and her inspiration.
