Champeaux owes its fame mainly to its collegiate church, undoubtedly the most beautiful religious building in the Brie region. Champeaux's proximity to the ru de l'Ancœur and its many important heritage sites make it an outstanding tourist and cultural destination. Champeaux's geographical location makes it a real ‘crossroads’ in the Val d'Ancœur, with its high bell tower visible in the distance. The collegiate church of Saint-Martin, a key site in the village, is the only remaining reminder of a college where some of the leading theologians of the Middle Ages passed through, including Abelard. To the south of the village lies the Château d'Aunoy, famous for its parkland, which is emblematic of ‘gardens in the English style’. The crossroads in the centre of the village and the presence of shops make Champeaux an ideal starting point for walkers. The route, step by step... 1. At the start of your walk, admire and visit the Collegiate Church of Saint-Martin de Champeaux. Walk down the rue du cloître and take the rue Saint-Léonard. 2. Turn left onto rue de la Libération and walk down to the junction with rue du Pourtour des Fossés. 3. Turn slightly left onto the path that runs alongside Rue de la Libération. At the end of the path, on your left, you'll see a miniature version of the Collégiale Saint-Martin de Champeaux, which is in fact an insect hotel created using several types of wood to raise awareness of the importance of preserving biodiversity. 4. Turn left and go to the end of the cul-de-sac. 5. Turn left onto the chemin de Melun de Saint-Méry. Continue straight ahead and pass the Château d'Aunoy (private property). 6. At the end of the road, turn left until you reach the junction with the sentier de la Procession (GR1). 7. Turn left along the sentier de la Procession to the crossroads with the chemin du Pourtour des Fossés. 8. Go straight ahead on the chemin du Pourtour des Fossés as far as the junction with the rue de Malvoisine. 9. Turn right into rue de Malvoisine as far as Ferme de Malvoisine. 10. Make a U-turn and return to rue de Malvoisine as far as the crossroads with ruelle du Four Banal. 11. Turn right into ruelle du Four Banal, then left into Place du Marché. Built around a castle that looks as if it has stepped straight out of a storybook, Blandy-les-Tours is an exceptional village for lovers of old stone. With its medieval castle at the heart of the village, Blandy-les-Tours boasts a unique heritage in the Île-de-France region. Blandy is thought to have emerged from the Gallo-Roman period. Since at least the 12th century, its history has been linked to the Viscounts of Melun, who built the first manor house, which over the centuries became a fortified castle and then a residential castle, before being transformed into a farm and falling into ruin. Now the property of the Département de Seine-et-Marne, the castle has been the subject of excavations and major restoration work, making it of particular interest. Don't hesitate to ask about the calendar of cultural events. Following a loop around the château, through the old streets and then along the river Ancœur, the village walk invites you to discover both its rich heritage and its bucolic landscapes. Restaurants, cafés and open-air cafés will ensure you spend a pleasant day in Blandy-les-Tours. The route, step by step... 1. Go to Place des Tours, opposite the entrance to the castle. Take advantage of this position to admire the castle. 2. Head for the apple crusher in Place du Colombier. 3. A stone's throw from the apple crusher is the church of Saint Maurice. 4. Walk along the south side of the church towards the farmhouse. 5. Take the Grande Rue, still known as the Rue Grande, one of the oldest streets in the village. You'll notice the statue of a flute player on your right in the Place du Pilori, a gift from Blandyn sculptor Michel Lévy, and an old water pump at the entrance to the street. Admire the remarkable porch at no. 9. 6. The narrow Clos lane (on your left) leads to a path behind the houses. Turn right and follow the path into the surrounding countryside to reach the ru d'Ancœur. 7. Turn right onto Rue du Pont Paillard (D47). 8. Just after the last house, turn right onto the country lane known as ‘la rue Creuse’. A picnic table awaits you for a rural break. 9. At the end of the lane, turn left onto the Chemin de Melun de Saint-Méry. After about 100 m, you will see a panoramic view of Blandy-les-Tours and its château on your left. 10. Resume your walk. On your left, head back down the rue du Pont Paillard (D47) towards the village. You will come across the Fontaine de Monferton. 11. Turn right onto chemin du Grand Rôle. Continue to follow the Ru d'Ancœur as far as the bridge over the Rue du Moulin. 12. Turn left to cross the Moulin bridge and walk up the Rue du Moulin towards the village. In the distance, you will see the church tower and the towers of the château. 13. You are now back in the village square, opposite the castle. Turn right immediately into rue de la Fontaine. You can stop at the wash-house. 14. Continue along rue de la Fontaine then turn left into rue Raoul Kourilsky to return to the château. 15. Turn right into rue Raoul Kourilsky. Once at the edge of the field, continue straight onto the rural trail. Arriving at an intersection, turn left. Continue on this path and you will then go through a forest. At the second intersection, go straight through the fields to the road. Then turn left onto the dirt road. 5. You will arrive at the ford and the Iron Bridge. Cross the Iron Bridge and go up the ruelle Saint-Martin. Turn immediately right into the rue de l’Enfer. 6. You will see the back of the church of Saint-Martin on your left, in the rue de l’Enfer. Follow the small path that runs alongside the church. Go back up to the place de l’Eglise towards the rue de l’Ecole. Take this street on the left then turn immediately right onto the lane that will take you back to your starting point. The conurbation, in collaboration with SPC Mobilités, is introducing a new service: the Melivélo Bike Station. The scheme not only offers bike hire, but also parking, bike maintenance and a concierge service. As part of the new multimodal interchange in the centre of the station, the conurbation is building the Mélivélo cycle stand in rue Séjourné (just outside the station, on the La Rochette side). You can hire different types of bike (city bikes or electric bikes) and a full range of accessories to equip your two-wheeler for periods ranging from one day to one year. There's something for everyone! The scheme offers bike hire from €15 a day, as well as parking, bike maintenance and a concierge service. After seven years of work, the Turkish boudoir of Marie-Antoinette and Josephine opened again his doors in May 2015. Marie-Antoinette’s turkish boudoir Hidden in an entresol of the castle over the ceremonial room of the queen, the Turkish boudoir was the intimacy space of Marie-Antoinette in Fontainebleau. Fitted out in 1777 on plans of the architect Richard Mique and decorated by the brothers Rousseau, it shows the luxurious preferences of the old regime for the Oriental style. After the Revolution, all the furniture of the boudoir have been changed to establish the Empress Josephine’s private bedroom. The place have been decorated with Jacob-Desmalter’s creations adorned with precious fabrics. Alcove, mirrors, curtains driven by pulleys ... this exceptional ensemble has been restored thanks to the support of INSEAD and the generosity of the subscribers of the operation. They have been very helpful for Fontainebleau. The restoration work on the boudoir has focused on its painted decorations and its precious furniture made of fabrics woven with gold. The most beautiful religious building in the Brie region, the Collegiate Church of Saint-Martin de Champeaux is the only remaining reminder of a college (community) of canons that was home to a famous centre for theological studies and singing. The Collegiate Church of Saint-Martin de Champeaux, listed as a Historic Monument in 1940, is a large and beautiful church built between the mid-12th and early 14th centuries. It was the church of a Chapter of canons, also known as the Collège, hence its name of collegiate church. There was a singing school that trained singers for communities throughout the region in these exceptional acoustics. The prosperity of the canons enabled the construction of a church with remarkable architectural qualities. It is 69.55 m long, 24.20 m wide, 15.30 m high in the nave and has a steeple almost 30 m high. The oldest parts of the building, such as the transept, date back to the mid-12th century, while the rest of the church illustrates the main stages of Radiant Gothic architecture. Completed in the early 14th century, the church has survived almost intact, enriched in the Renaissance by a fine collection of stained glass windows and beautiful choir stalls, and in the 18th century by a large carved wooden altarpiece. The architecture, which is in a fairly simple early Gothic style, is nevertheless enriched by sculptures: a large number of capitals carved with plant motifs, and various figures and monsters dotted around the choir and transept. The Collegiate Church contains the largest collection of 14th-century tombstones in the region. In 1946, faced with the state of disrepair into which the monument had fallen, the Association des Amis de la Collégiale was founded to help the commune preserve and promote this heritage. The Collegiate Church is home to a number of objects protected as Monuments Historiques: 16th-century statues, a 17th-century tabernacle, an 18th-century eagle-lutrin, 19th-century prie-Dieu and a cantor's stool... The famous sculptor Rodin was fascinated by this beautiful monument, to which he often returned. He produced architectural drawings of the Collegiate Church, reproductions of which are on display here. The Guillaume de Champeaux Association has been organising concerts, exhibitions and guided tours of the Collegiate Church since 1983.

Blandy is a medieval fortress last one left as well restaured in the Ile-de-France region. The first baronial residence was built in the thirteenth century, in the form of a simple manor with an irregular surrounding wall. Later that century, considerable fortification work was done, particularly the three towers which were added to the fortified entrance tower. A large residential building was built inside these fortifications. The fourteenth century saw considerable development of the château defences, with a moat and a new tower entrance boasting a spiked drawbridge. In the second half of this century Blandy became the model for fortified castles. The keep, 39 metres high, defended by two drawbridges, was built. The keep was altered by the addition of new towers and curtain walls. Between the fifteenth and seventeenth centuries, the fortress gradually lost its military purpose and became a residential castle. More domestic buildings were built. In the early eighteenth century, Maréchal Villars, the owner of Vaux-le-Vicomte, bought the lands and fortress of Blandy, which was pulled down and turned into a farm. Little by little, the fortress disappeared. Bought by the town council in 1883, the ruins of the fortress were classified as a historic monument the following year. From 1970 onwards, volunteer associations began work on restoring the château. In 1992, the Seine et Marne general council bought the fortress and undertook a vast restoration operation. A complete programme of works has enabled this superb fortress to be resuscitated and become one of the leading tourist attractions in the department. This dashing fortress represents one of the flagship tourist site of the district.

The story begins like a fairy tale: "Once upon a time, there was the Val d'Ancœur..." with its castles, its legends and the 3 names of this small stream, which has become a myth, from Ancœur to Ancoeuil and ends in Almont... before flowing into the Seine. (extract from the Archives Départementales website) The ru d'Ancoeur is a watercourse which rises in the commune of Grandpuits-Bailly-Carrois at an altitude of 125 m. It then takes the name of "Ancoeuil" in the commune of Moisenay and, after a journey of 25 km from its source, flows into the Bassin de la Poële at the Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte. At the end of this basin, it flows into the Almont 5 km downstream into the Seine at Melun. Together with its tributaries, it forms a catchment area of approximately 306 km². The ru d'Ancoeur flows through the municipalities of Grandpuits-Bailly-Carrois, La Chapelle-Gauthier, Bréau, Bombon, Saint-Méry, Blandy-les-Tours, Moisenay, Maincy and Melun. Classified as an "Exceptional Site" since 14 October 1985 by the Direction Régionale et Interdépartementale de l'Environnement et de l'Energie d'Île-de-France, the ru d'Ancœur offers enchanting landscapes. The listed site covers 1861 hectares. Along its watercourses - the Almont, the Ancoeuil (or Ancueil) and then the Ancoeur - the Val d'Ancœur offers panoramic views: villages, forests, châteaux (Vaux-le-Vicomte, Blandy-Les-Tours, etc.) and, at the confluence with the Seine, urbanised areas. "The Ancoeur is a river with very little water, very irregular and in danger of running dry on a regular basis. The water level in its catchment area is 96 millimetres a year, which is one of the lowest in France, more than three times lower than the average for the country as a whole, and above all well below the average for the whole of the Seine basin (around 240 millimetres). For centuries, however, the constant flow of the river Ancoeur has enabled numerous mills to operate. The large number of hydraulic structures, such as canals, basins and ponds, small reservoirs and mills, give the landscape a distinctive identity based on water and its control. This is linked to the wet nature of the land. A place where people live, produce and create, the Val d'Ancoeur is home to a number of major heritage sites throughout the area: churches and works of art dating back to the 12th century, castles, farms, mills, rural housing, small-scale rural heritage, and so on. It has also become a subject of reflection and aesthetic admiration thanks to the artists who have seized upon its beauty to interpret it in their own way. - L'Ancueil ("Anqueil" in its 17th-century spelling), for example, gave its name to a majestic statue in the grounds of Vaux-le-Vicomte located to the left of the grotto complex (1659-1662), facing the Tiber installed to the right in 1659. - In 1879, the painter Paul Cézanne immortalised the Pont de Maincy (preserved at the Musée d'Orsay). - And sculptor Auguste Rodin devoted some superb drawings to the Collegiate Church of Champeaux (1890-1917), testifying to his admiration. For several years now, the Communauté de Communes Brie des Rivières et Châteaux and the Communauté d'Agglomération Melun Val de Seine have been working together to draw up a Landscape Plan to highlight the assets of the Val d'Ancoeur. An opportunity to protect and enhance the landscape heritage. The perimeter of the listed site covers 11 communes in an area of around 56 km². As the crow flies, it is almost 17 km long.

A masterpiece of seventeenth-century architecture, with refined decorations, a model garden designed by Le Notre and magical candlelit tours. The garden at Vaux-le-Vicomte is arranged around a perspective more than three kilometres long. This major axis reflects the innovative spirit of FOUQUET and LE NÔTRE. By setting the scene for the château and outbuildings in a 40-hectare space carved out of the heart of nature, LE NÔTRE and LE VAU achieved for the first time the most perfect relationship between architecture and landscape environment of the entire 17th century.

The world-famous 17th-century château and its estate represent the most perfect "harmony between architecture and landscape". To visit Vaux-le-Vicomte is to immerse yourself in French magnificence. Vaux-le-Vicomte: the perfection of a château Grand siècle... The Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte was designed in the 1650s by some of the greatest artists of the time: architect Louis Le Vau, painter Charles Le Brun, landscape architect André Le Nôtre, master mason Michel Villedo and maître d'hôtel François Vatel. Dazzled by their work, Louis XIV called on them to build the Château de Versailles. Magnificent old horse-drawn carriages and their crews are on display in the large stables. The carriages are presented in settings based on the themes of town, country and hunting. The Vaux-le-Vicomte estate is also the venue for a succession of cultural and tourist events: Easter celebrations in the gardens; the Grand Siècle Day and its costumes; candlelit tours, etc. The ponds, fountains and waterfalls are filled with water every second and last Saturday of the month.

The bell tower was built on the site of an ancient Gallo-Roman tower. A first sanctuary, dedicated to Saint Stephen, was built around the year 1000 on the site of the current church. Some remains of the 12th century can still be seen in the church (square pillars with bare carving). After having the village of Vaux demolished to build his château, Fouquet obtained permission to restore the church in the nearby village rather than rebuild the one in Vaux. The restoration was carried out under the direction of Louis Le Vau, architect of Vaux-le-Vicomte, in the 1660s. The Sommier family, who bought the Vaux-le-Vicomte estate in 1889, also took a great interest in the church: major work was carried out until the outbreak of the First World War.

In the 13th century, a building known as a hostellerie already stood on the site of today's château. The castle was not built until the 17th century. In the 19th century, its architecture was redesigned and it was enlarged. The estate covers 38 hectares in a single block, and its grounds include a number of small pavilions listed as historic monuments for their remarkable architecture.

The Maincy Bridge is located in the hamlet of Trois-Moulins, near the "Moulin d'en bas". It crosses the river Almont, and was built in 1822 by Colonel Thomson to access his home (Château de Coudray). In August 2004, the wooden section was completely restored. This rural spot is now protected, as it forms the boundary of the site classified as the picturesque character of the Ru de l'Ancoeur Valley. The bridge became famous thanks to Paul Cézanne's painting of it. The work is currently on display at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris. The artist painted this spot during his stay in Melun from April 1879 to March 1880, in a house on Place de la Préfecture. A recluse, he led a very discreet life there, devoting himself to painting. From time to time, he made a brief trip to Paris, visiting Emile Zola for a fortnight. He wrote him several letters from Melun.

Come and discover Rubelles earthenware thanks to its museum, which is a place of remembrance for the town. The aim of this space is to highlight the important role played by Rubelles in the French earthenware industry.

The Moulin du Roy, also known as the "Moulin d'en Haut", belongs to the commune of Rubelles. Its existence is documented as far back as 980 AD. It is said to have been named in honour of King Robert the Pious, who had the town of Melun liberated around the year 1000. It remained in royal ownership until 1594, when Henry IV sold it to Monsieur De la Grange, governor of Melun. In 1889, the mill was converted into a dairy by the Mollereau family and renamed the "Grande Laiterie de Trois-Moulins". The dairy collected milk from farms in nearby towns such as Maincy, Rubelles, Blandy and Champeaux. The milk was then delivered to Melun. In 1897, the dairy was awarded a Diplôme d'Honneur for "Speciality Cream Cheese" at the "Exposition de l'Industrie et Fêtes du Commerce" in Paris. It was then taken over by the future writer and adventurer Henri de Monfreid from 1909 to 1910. In 1913, the Jonot family moved in and continued to run the dairy until the 1960s, when it was forced to close for good due to a lack of milk. The mill, which has recently been renovated, is now used as a home. It faces a residence that once belonged to the academician Count Franz de Champagny, who is buried in the chapel on the property.
