Mont Valerien : the memorial of fighting France The Mont-Valérien memorial was the main place of execution by the German army on French territory during World War II. These men, murdered because they were resistance fighters condemned to death or hostages, Jews and Communists, are all reminders of our history which naturally made this site a Mecca of national memory. After the war, the site was chosen by General de Gaulle to honor the memory of the Dead for France from 1939 to 1945; he inaugurated the memorial of fighting France there on June 18, 1960. Inside the site, the “Remembrance Trail” allows you to follow the path of those who were about to be shot: from the chapel, the walls of which still keep traces of graffiti engraved by convicts, in the clearing of the executed. The discovery of the Mont-Valérien memorial allows us to better understand what the German repression was, the French collaboration, and what was the journey of those "who loved life to death.

This park is home to the house of Father Joseph, "eminence grise" of Cardinal Richelieu. This is one of the only remains of the Richelieu area. Bought and restored by the city, this building now houses the cultural center of the Hermitage, a place for temporary exhibitions. Vincent Van Gogh - The Seine with the bridge at the Grande Jatte - oil on canvas, 32 x 40.5 cm - Van Gogh Museum English (origin) In May 1887, Van Gogh began working on a series of 30 river scenes and landscapes along the Seine in Paris. He painted The Bridge at Courbevoie in a single session, focusing on the reflections in the water. He was less concerned with using correct perspective or with the proportions of the human figures. Van Gogh used dashes of paint in all sorts of colors,side by side and sometimes layered. This was his own free variation on Pointillism. That method was familiar to him from the work of artists such as Georges Seurat (1859-1891) and Paul Signac (1863-1935). They used mainly small dots of colour.

In 1755, King Louis XV ordered the building of three identical barracks in Rueil, Courbevoie and Saint-Denis to house his regiment officially. The Franco-Swiss Museum, located in the Guynemer Barracks, a listed building, tells the story of this elite regiment. The regiment of the Swiss Guards, permanent army corps of soldiers was created in 1616 by Louis XIII. The first Swiss became integrated with the population towards 1646. They will be billeted in private houses until 1754, the date at which Luis XV to built three barracks in Rueil-Malmaison, Courbevoie and Saint-Denis. Listed monument historic, the barracks of Rueil stills exists. A out building of the museum is specially devoted to the Swiss Guards whom are settled since 1999 in one of the gate lodge of the barrack.

The sculpture, commanded Antoine Injalbert, was limited to piles. The program is traditional: side left bank, two feminine allegories embody the Business and the Abundance whereas, on the other side, two faces symbolize the one, the City of Paris and the other one, the Navigation. The dynamism of faces, the movement of which with regard to the river is reversed of a bank in the other, contrasting with the rigorous prescription of the bridge. The effect produces two nymphs go back up the river whereas two others lower it.

The current name of the place of Trocadéro-et-du-11-Novembre dates 1978. On May 1st, 2012, a public meeting gathering, according to the organizers, several hundreds of thousand persons is organized place of the Trocadéro: it is about the last public meeting of the candidate Nicolas Sarkozy for the presidential election the second tour of which takes place next Sunday.On May 13th, 2013, a party is organized by the PSG on the place to celebrate the victory of the club of football during the French championship at the end of the week the previous one. Because of several vandals' tens, this one is nevertheless shortened and gives rise to confrontations with law enforcement and to vandalism of brasseries and vehicles parked on the place. This violence is unanimously condemned by the political class but the right denounces a lack of preparation on behalf of Home Secretary and of prefect of police; they question for the future this kind of sportive events in Paris.
