Claude Monet - Spring through the branches - oil on canvas - 53.6 x 65 cm. Private Collection
This painting is one of the eight scenes that Monet made on the island of La Grande Jatte during the spring of 1878.
The island was a very popular destination for the Parisian middle class seeking coolness along the Seine. "Monet is the Impressionist who is most identified with the Seine. He spent much of his childhood in Le Havre, where the Seine joins the Atlantic Ocean.
Always interested in painting landscapes, the Seine brought to Monet infinite possibilities. He has moreover made more canvases of the Seine than each of his friends impressionsites "(Katherine Rothkopf)
