Camping Brudy: Discover the Heart of Le Rozier, Lozère

Starting in the hamlet of Dargilan, which gave its name to the cave, you go through Scots pine forests, across open landscapes and past handsome fortified farms. You straddle three departments. From the car park, take the track suitable for motor vehicles that leads to Sérigas.1) Go through the hamlet to reach the D 39. Turn right onto the road, then leave it again to take the second on the left, towards Le Marjoab. At the top of the slope, go right and pass through several gates to reach Le Marjoab.2) Cross the village and take the road that leads to the D 47. Turn right onto the D 47. At the second intersection, turn right. The track joins up with the D 47c: turn left onto it and at the next crossroads turn right and continue to Les Mazes.3) From les Mazes, continue straight ahead on the track till you reach Alluech.4) In the village of Alluech, continue left between the houses. Cross the road and follow the path opposite to the GR® 62a trail.5) Turn right onto the GR; the path between two hedges continues in the forest. It comes out on a road: turn left onto it and continue to the hamlet of Luc.6) By the farm, leave the road for a path that passes close to a farm building. Continue on this path, which joins up with the D 47c.7) Turn left onto the road and, at the crossroads, continue straight ahead on the D 139 till you reach the car park in Dargilan that you started from.

On this trail, discover a very agricultural village, a restored dovecote, the flora of the causses, Neolithic man and the anecdote of the 3 bishops. An easy hike for the whole family. The atmosphere of the Causse is spectacular, with its vast stretches of desert and its silence. A few burning bushes and boxwoods add to the rugged authenticity of the land. The hamlet of Les Mazes is on the Causse Noir. Here, the land is arid, and sheep are king. And the 3 bishops? When the départements were created, around 1790, the 3 bishops of Gard, Lozère and Aveyron got together and deposited this cross at the boundaries. In about 1790, when France’s départements were created, the three bishops of the Gard, Lozère and Aveyron decided to celebrate the new administrative division by having this cross put up...Enjoy the beautiful Causse atmosphere, with its vast prairie-like spaces, where sheep reign! Signposts will guide you all along this route, as well as yellow painted waymarks. In the description below, the signposted place names and/or directions are given in bold italics between quotation marks:From the departure-point, take the road leading to Les "Mazes hamlet". In the hamlet, head towards "Croix des Trois Evêques » via "Le Sabel".  At “Croix des Trois Evêques”, turn right onto the small road for 800m. Take on your right the path to return to "Les Mazes". Walk along the right-hand side of the farm buildings. Just after the farm buildings, at the road, turn right and go through the hamlet to return to your point of departure.

This physically challenging loop leads from the banks of the river Tarn to the Causse Méjean plateau, and offers  gorgeous panoramic views onto the Tarn Gorges and the Causse de Sauveterre. From the carpark in La Malène, cross the river Tarn and take the path on the right after the bridge. Take the first footpath on the left (after 300 m) and climb onto the Causse Méjean plateau. Go through Rieisse and, on leaving the hamlet, continue straight ahead towards the Roc des Hourtous. At the panoramic viewpoint of Les Hourtous, walk past the snack bar on its right to take a path that runs parallel to the ridge for 800 m. Then take the path downhill on the left to join up with the path overlooking the Tarn. Turn right onto it to return to the starting-point.

A lovely little climb overlooking the Jonte gorge ! On the Causse Noir plateau, a rolling limestone landscape opens up, before you bike downhill to the foothills of Mont Aigoual. From Meyrueis, take the D584 towards Sérigas / Dargilan. Head for Lanuéjols on the D47c and D47a (there-and-back to Lanuéjols). Return to Meyrueis on the D47 and D986.

Bramabiau is one of those grandiose and bizarre works of nature. A veritable cradle of French speleology, the tour is 1 km long and very accessible. Built between the 12th and 16th centuries, the Château de Peyrelade constituted one of the most important fortresses in the Rouergue in the Middle Ages, thanks to the position of its natural rock-dungeon that enables it to control the Tarn valley. Today, guided visits enable you to discover the site's turbulent history, its very particular architecture as well as numerous restoration works and digs that have been undertaken in the last 25 years. The visit ends by climbing onto the rock that offers a superb panorama of this section of the valley and the Gorges du Tarn. At the end of the 19th century, three priest (Abbot Lubac, abbot Cazes and abbot Pineau), undertook colossal project to set up a statue of the Virgin Mary on the Puech de Fontaneilles who can be seen by all the horizons, the Limestone plateau and Lévezou.The construction was not easy. About ten workers got down to it during two years.The villagers voluntarily participated to create an accessible path to transport the necessary materials for the construction of the site.The water of a source discovered at the beginning of the path was collected in barrels and was use for the preparation of mortar. The stone was extracted and cut on the spot.Once the Pedestal finished, it was only waiting on the Statue of the Virgin that was ordered in belgium and never came.Swinle, lies, embezzlement, nobody knows what really happened. 

It is one of the most important ruiniform chaos on the Causses (limestone plateau). It constitutes a natural donjon which overhangs,and on the other side of the ravine du Riou Sec, that of Montpellier-le-vieux. Rocks with fantastic shapes among which 4 towers of 40 meters high, in which one is called l'Arc du Triomphe!Some of these sites were once coronate of an amazing image, feeding the imagination of the population which avoided them.

About 240 years, the Causses (limestone plateau*) were formed by the accumulation of marine sediments. The errection of the Pyrenees and the Alps provoked an uprising of the region and formed numerous cracks on the surface area. The streaming infiltrates there, sculping rocks by dissolution of limestone. The erosion is more or less active according to the resistance of rocks, that's why we observe ruiniform sculptures today.

At the entrance of the Gorges du Tarn, the wine cellars Entre-deux Monts is located above Fontaneilles.The old vaults out of thick flagstones on the slope of the peak of Suège, is a village which offers discoveries.Each family possessed their cellars to preserve and refine the wine. The door facing north side, twoo small vertical openings and the fleurines (a crack in the rock of natural cellars) as in Roquefort, guaranteed a fresh and constant temperature.In these ancient times where only vineyards and some herds enabled the survival of modest peasant economy, the village of cellars was also a place of friendliness wher the fontaneillois meet every sunday.

the Association Vivre Montméjean focused on the paths, that was once roads of vital communications for the hamlet. Today the clearness done, in order to open paths to the hikers, revealed a particulary varied flora. After the inventory, the Association decided to create a loop of the botanical path of Montméjean to enrich the walkers stroll.

Ideally located in the village of Espérou, take a break in our snack bar before enjoying the great outdoors on the Aigoual massif, in the Cévennes National Park. Open all year round, every day, from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. Traditional cuisine, homemade dishes and desserts, full menus.

La maison des Cévennes is a former forester's house that has been converted into an inn. Located in Puéchagut in the commune of Bréau-et-Salagosse, south of the Col de la Broue, on the slopes of the Esperou and Lingas mountains. You can enjoy the nearby river, or rent a pack donkey for a day or more, and take a guided hike. Mas Corbières is a calm, enchanting place in the heart of nature, ideal for a change of scenery, a recharge of batteries and a creative outlet.

Le Petit Baigneur offers you a return to your roots in a calm, family and simple environment, on the banks of the river Gardon. Enjoy moments of relaxation on the large and shaded pitches. The campsite allows you to benefit from all the necessary comfort to spend a pleasant stay, simple, friendly and warm. With its traditional tractor ride in summer for the children, the family atmosphere and the good mood of the place make it a tasty and memorable moment! The swimming will delight young and old with its direct access to the river which is quite hot in summer! Le Petit Baigneur welcomes you in tent, caravan and camper, but with your own equipment. There are no mobile homes or chalets available for rent. On the Stevenson trail, this gîte d'étape offers hikers a relaxing and friendly break. Farmhouse environment. This comfortable, functional and friendly gîte is remarkably well suited to the needs of hikers in the new millennium. The preservation of the old buildings has created a warm and welcoming atmosphere, while respecting the architectural authenticity and rich history of the area. Lime rendering and the use of chestnut wood blend perfectly with the original stone. The garden offers a variety of relaxation areas for a well-deserved rest. Situated on the edge of the GR70 and very close to the GR61, 'Le Pré de Modestine' is the ideal place to enjoy the end of Stevenson's route, or to organize hikes to discover the Cévennes. The gîte is located 1 km upstream from Saint Jean du Gard.

Bivouac nature is a camp of eco-lodges tents to spend a pleasant stay in the heart of nature. It is also possible to rent a Bivouac pitch to pitch your own tent without electricity. Ecological and resolutely turned towards a committed and green tourism, the site of Bivouac Nature is without wifi nor car to take advantage fully and serenely of the place in family. Some tents are fully equipped (bathroom, solar panel lighting) and all our models have bedrooms with real beds and a kitchenette (fridge, 2 burner stove, dishes and utensils). It is also possible to rent a Bivouac pitch to put up your own tent (without electrical connection). We will accompany you throughout your stay and advise you.
