Discover two magnificent lakes and a complete nature reserve that is closely studied by scientists. Overnight stay at the Muzelle refuge (reservation essential). Start: Bourg d'Arud Camping (954 m) - 1 h 10 (2 km, D+ 321 m, D- 12 m) From the stop, cross Bourg d'Arud on the D530 (heading south-east). Cross the bridge over the Vénéon and turn right through the hamlet of l'Alleau and its fountain-washhouse. Then follow the GR54® path rapidly rising through the forest to reach a characteristic ruin. 1) Ruine du Pleynet (1249 m) - 3 h (4.4 km, D+ 900 m, D- 30 m) Follow the path along the torrent de la Pisse, with its beautiful waterfalls. At the Chapeau Roux waterfall, the path crosses the torrent via a footbridge, then continues up steep switchbacks to reach a peat bog flat. Five hundred metres further on, you come to the refuge and Lac de la Muzelle in its glacial cirque, where tongues of the hanging glacier glacier. 2) Refuge de la Muzelle (2130 m) - 1 h 30 (2.4 km, D+ 413 m) Follow the path along the edge of the lake until you cross a footbridge (2102 m). Turn due west for the route to the Col du Vallon, which winds its way among rocks (cairns) and then winds its way up a steep, more open slope. 3) Col du Vallon (2531 m) - 1 h 45 (4.3 km, D+ 37 m, D- 1,058 m) Descend the pass on the north-west side along the path. At around 1750 m, the path bends northwards to cross a ravine (a tricky passage on a rocky slab). After a brief ascent, we descend a few hairpin bends to reach the north shore of Lac Lauvitel. To the south of the lake, an integral nature reserve forbids the presence of man. 4) Lac du Lauvitel - Les Selles (1501m) - 50 min (2.4 km, D- 484 m) Descend to the Pont des Balmes on the north path, towards La Danchère via Les Selles, along a beautiful paved path and remarkably well-maintained low walls.

A nice circuit passing from lake to lake, leading you up to the high mountains in 2 days, with the bonus of a breathtaking and original view over the Barre des Ecrins, the only mountains over 4000 m in the southern Alps (4102m).After walking up the little narrow street towards the upper part of the village of Alleau, the climb begins on a fine forest path that then passes above the left bank of the Pisse torrent. The ascent is continuous, but the slope finally flattens out and you arrive at the magnificent corrie of Lake Muzelle with its refuge elegantly placed just above the lake. Both are watched over from above by the Muzelle glacier. After a restful night at the refuge, you start up a fairly steep path that zigzags its way just under the valley pass. Here, take your time to admire the Barre des Ecrins from an uncommon angle. Soon afterwards, the descent towards the Lauvitel looks down almost continually on Lake Lauvitel, with sections that are sometimes fitted with handrails. After Lauvitel “beach” and its pile of stone blocks, the descent towards La Danchère passes along a path that is almost entirely paved and that can get quite crowded. You then return to the village of L’Alleau partly alongside the powerful River Vénéon, in peace and quiet, through the forest.

This hike goes through a forest of resinous trees and Beech trees until the refuge and the lake at Muzelle... From the car park which is next to the left bank of the Vénéon just after the bridge, take the narrow road that leads to the end of Alleau hamlet. Go over the little bridge and take the paved path that goes up steeply into the forest. . After a few bends, a long restful crossing enables you to reach "le Cerisier", a group of houses in ruin. Continue on the path which follows the left bank of the Muzelle torrent, these bends lead to waterfalls which are very welcome in times of great heat. When you arrive at the foot of a big shale slope, the track zig-zags across the torrent and there are many bends to reach a beautiful lawn, then a basin full of bog. Arrive finally at a little hill to see the Muzelle lake and its refuge. Go down on the same path.

Dist. : 19,3km Déniv. + : 1870m Alt. max : 2613m The symbol of the Muzelle guides you along this route: the Muzelle waterfall, the Muzelle lake, the Muzelle pass and of course the view of the Muzelle glacier which dresses the mountain. This tour of the high-altitude lakes offers a beautiful panoramic view of the Oisans. You will be entering the Parc National des Ecrins, a sublime park that is preserved and protected. A few rules must be observed. You'll find a few springs along the way. However, we recommend that you carry 1 to 2 liters of water per person.

This fine Alpine crossing follows the GR54 and the Col du Vallon, providing hikers with a view over the Muzelle and Lauvitel lakes.When you leave the village of L'Alleau, cross the little bridge and take the paved path rising steeply into the forest. Continue along the path alongside the left bank of the Muzelle torrent. Once you arrive at the foot of a large schist slope, the path crosses the torrent and zigzags its way up through several loops to reach fine grassland, then a hollow filled with a peat bog. You finally arrive at a small "hump", from where you can see the Muzelle lake and refuge. Go down to the lake, walk round it to the right as far as the spillway and cross the bridge. At the fork, turn right into the meadows. You cross an area of rocks, following the cairns. The way continues as far as the Col up a steep grassy slope. The descent to the Lauvitel is via the right bank of the Embernard stream, through a large number of bends, and across a few rocky slabs and a combe. You arrive at Lake Lauvitel and its chalets via Pré des Selles. From there, go to the Danchère by turning right at the fork. The descent follows an old paved path with small walls on either side. You will see the St Croix Oratory just before arrving at the first houses in La Danchère. To get to Le Bourg d'Arud on foot, cross La Danchère and take the path along the left bank of the Vénéon as you leave the village.

This is a fast-riding route along the banks of the tumultous Vénéon river to the picturesque village of Venosc. Perfect for exploring the Bourg d'Oisans plain. ROUTE Leave Bourg d'Oisans on the road heading towards Villard Notre Dame and take the GR 50 to the left just before the climb commences. A nice loop on the heights of the village

A path that takes you to the chalk mine on the heights of the village. Above the houses of the village, with a superb view on the valley, you can discover the chalk mine. Remains of the period when the mine was functioning, and explanatory signs, tell you the story of "L'Ardoisière"

An ideal rock face for an enjoyable day out. This climb features some fine airy passages above the roofs of Venosc and opposite the sparkling Muzelle glacier. The large grassy ledges give you the chance to enjoy a relaxed view of the breathtaking Véneon valley. From the meadow at the top, you can walk to Les 2 Alpes in 15 minutes, and then either follow the footpath back down to Venosc (which leads off from the Venosc cable car), or take the cable car. Cultural informations : Venosc and the Oisans peddlars Venosc, capital of peddlers… This part of Oisans used to be snow bound for months on end, so the inhabitants turned to peddling to support their families, although a longing for adventure could also explain why the Oisans peasants were so attracted to the life of a travelling salesman. After the autumn harvest, they set off from Venosc, with their packs on their backs, for other regions of France or abroad to sell their wares. They came back in May, pockets filled with money and full of eagerly awaited tales of the outside world. The herbalists carried a sort of wicker cupboard, the drawers and shelves laden with mountain plants with medicinal virtues. They added pharmaceutical preparations and acted as healers, doctors and even tooth pullers. The bestknown peddlers were the florists, often from Venosc, who offered the rarest and strangest (sometimes imaginary) flower seeds. Many found their fortune abroad. Peddling in this old fashioned way disappeared for good in the 1960s.

The new Télémixte du Diable allows skiers, pedestrians and mountain bikers to access 2400m of altitude and the Diable sector. In winter, the Télémixte du Diable, a new lift with alternating 6-seater seats and 6-seater cabins, takes skiers and pedestrians up to the Crêtes sector. The church of Venosc is a mixture of several styles. Built in the 9th century, it has undergone numerous modifications over the years. Romanesque church dating from the 9th century, but which has been modified and enlarged over the years. The modern nave was built in 1910 thanks to the Carthusian fathers. The altarpiece dates from the 17th century and is in the baroque style. The two saints are St Paul and St Peter. St. Peter and St. Paul are inseparable. They are the two pillars of the Church and tradition has never celebrated one without the other. St. Peter is the titular of the church and St. Paul the patron of the parish. The church is one of the best endowed in the Oisans, partly thanks to the donations of rich donors such as Jacques Rochette and peddlers who made their fortune. The bell tower houses the oldest bell found in the Oisans, dating from 1622.

One of the oldest painted sundials in the "Dauphinoises" Alps. Dating from 1669, it bares an inscription stating "sun that doesn't know end" . Its needle disappeared and was replaced in 1998. The Roman numerals mark the hours with dots. The number 666 is supposed to represent the flames of hell. This must be seen in the context of the counter-reformation which saw the friars of the Bourg d'Oisans convent attempt to evangelise the Protestants in the Oisans.

A charming stone chapel is located in the heart of a small perched hamlet The interior is simple with modest furnishings. It is well enlightened by a colorful stained glass. Its atmosphere reflects the simplicity of life in the village in XIXth century. In almost every hamlet, even the highest ones like Lanchatra, you'll find a chapel. This "secondary" religious building for a parish was not the property of the church, but of the private funds that enabled its construction. These funds could have come from a wealthy family, a lord or, as was the case in the hamlet of Puy le Haut, from an entire community in gratitude to a patron saint for protection or during an exceptional event. Since the separation laws of 1905, most churches and chapels are owned by the communes.

Several birds of prey cross the skies above L’Oisans. Among them are two couples of golden eagles that share the Muzelle and Lauvitel valleys. They have an impressive wingspan (2.30 m on average), are mostly brown colour, and often hunt marmots at low altitude.

Around 4000 years ago, a rocky landslide added to an existing glacial moraine to form a natural dam capable of retaining this large volume of water. The seasonal variation of the level of the lake of 20 to 25 m is due to the permeability of the materials making the dam. In fact the lake does not have a spillway and the water infiltrates the boulders of the dam. It offers a beautiful view of the lake which infact inspired the painters at l'Abbé Guétal.

Located at an altitude of 1530 metres, the Lauvitel lake is the largest lake in the Ecrins massif and can be reached from the hamlet of La Danchère. The Lauvitel integral reserve was created in 1995 on the heights of the commune of Bourg d'Oisans Its aim is "to monitor the natural dynamics of ecosystems For a long time the only integral reserve in a French national park, it has become the reference in this field in France.

The Lauvitel full reserve area was created on 9 May 1995, and is a first in France in a National Park. It lies at the end of the valley and has been owned by the state since 1980. This area, where all human activity is forbidden, is a site for scientific observation of an environment over the long term. Vegetation, animals, water and climate are studied and compared with the data from other sites. Access to the reserve is strictly forbidden except for scientific purposes.

From the Col du Vallon, you can sometimes see griffon vultures. The bird returned to the mountains a few years ago. Bigger than an eagle, with beige and brown plumage, it generally glides in flight, and its movements are broad and slow. But what characterises the species above all is its gregariousness: griffon vultures like to be together, whether on the ground or in the air. This behavioural adaptation makes it easier for them to find the animal carcasses they feed on.

The Roman Gate of Bons is one of the most important remains of the Roman road that ran through the Oisans. To discover it just follow the path from the hamlet of Bons, the remains are clearly visible!

La Guinguette is a bar-restaurant located on the shores of Lac du Verney, next to the water sports center. New managers this year at La Guinguette! Hugo and his team welcome you with a new menu. The menu features traditional cuisine based on 90% homemade with local, quality produce. In the afternoon, there's ice cream, crêpes and waffles, as well as a platter in the evening. All in all, a delightful treat for the taste buds, to share with friends or family.

The refuge is set on a magnificent belvedere, so you'll enjoy a gentle hike through unspoilt countryside. Around the refuge you'll find many activities such as hiking (tour du grand Cond, lac de la Mariande, lac du Salude, col de la Mariande...), mountaineering (tête de Lauranoure, col de la haute pisse...) and climbing (2 big routes in the pierroux, 3 routes around the Froide Pisse waterfall). Located at an altitude of 2268 m, a 3-hour walk from Villard Notre Dame, this south-facing unsupervised mountain hut sits above the Torrent du Vallon stream. It is on the path leading up to the top of Le Rochail. Authentic and rustic, this small 20 m² hut sleeps six in the most basic of comforts. It has 6 mattresses, blankets, a table and benches. A visitor's book is provided, where you can leave comments about your hike, your night and your experience! The Refuge des Sources can be a stop-off point on the way to the summit, during a long hike or simply because you would like to spend the night in the mountains.

A lovely mountain hut near Mizoën at an altitude of 1515 m. A stopover on the GR50 54C tour of the Ecrins and the start of numerous hikes on the Emparis plateau. Close to the petrifying Cascade de la Pisse waterfall, the via ferrata and a climbing route. Superb views of the Meije. From the car park at Les Aymes, follow the path marked in red and white (variant of the GR 54 path): the balcony trail makes its way above the Lac du Chambon before climbing up across the meadows. From there, hikers can either follow the discovery trail to the right that joins the refuge (adding ½ hour) or carry straight on to Les Clots. The walk and hut have been awarded the "Espit Parc" label and are perfect for families and people looking for peace and quiet and to reconnect with their inner selves! Along the way, and near the refuge, depending on the time of your visit, you may see marmots, chamois and butterflies, and depending on the season, feast your eyes and nose with lavender and orange lilies. You’ll also have a chance to admire the waterfalls above the hut, gushing out of a petrified fountain, forming lumps of tuf. The site is under a biotope protection order, so please stay on the path to avoid damaging this geological wonder.

At the foot of accessible glaciers and lakes (la Muande, les Rouies, les Sellettes, les Bêches, les Fétoules...), fauna, flora and herds are waiting for you, and everyone, from the youngest to the oldest, from the contemplative to the adventurous, from the climber to the walker, will find what they're looking for. You'll be able to sample organic and local produce, all in a creative and colorful cuisine. Evariste Chancel refuge (2508 m) has 39 beds and is located on a terrace overlooking the valley of the Romanche river and La Grave village, where you will enjoy a magnificent viewpoint over the valley of the Haute Romanche. During summer the refuge is accessible from the cable car station along Lake Puy Vachier (1h). The refuge is located in this unique setting; the path accessible for all ages. Please note: this site has been awarded the Natura 2000 label and is subject to numerous measures to preserve its biodiversity. We therefore invite you to adopt the right reflexes when you come to protect this sensitive area. The landscape here is reminiscent of the northern tundra, dotted with a myriad of small lakes and frog pools. Some of these lakes contain fossilized tree trunks in their sediments, testifying to the presence of the forest here 6,000 years ago. The entire plateau is classified Natura 2000, the European network of remarkable natural environments. Come and enjoy the panoramic view of the Oisans mountains from the orientation table 50 m from the refuge.

We will welcome you around a good table and we will offer you cozy accommodation in small dorms or bedrooms. The guardians will advise you on suitable itineraries, depending on weather conditions and your interests. You will also find a Finnish sauna, a perfect way to relax after exercice !
