Lanchatra chapel

Description

A charming stone chapel is located in the heart of a small perched hamlet The interior is simple with modest furnishings. It is well enlightened by a colorful stained glass. Its atmosphere reflects the simplicity of life in the village in XIXth century.
In almost every hamlet, even the highest ones like Lanchatra, you'll find a chapel. This "secondary" religious building for a parish was not the property of the church, but of the private funds that enabled its construction. These funds could have come from a wealthy family, a lord or, as was the case in the hamlet of Puy le Haut, from an entire community in gratitude to a patron saint for protection or during an exceptional event. Since the separation laws of 1905, most churches and chapels are owned by the communes.
