Via Ferrata of Saint-Christophe
4.4 km

Via Ferrata of Saint-Christophe

The frothing, turquoise blue waters of the Véneon river, an airy, swinging footbridge, a varied and well thought-out route, a few athletic parts, together with some wonderfully exposed sections, make this a classic via ferrata route. Technical information : Time : 4h (with the approach walk and walk back) Difficulty : D Start : 1200 m Heigh gain : 500 m Orientation : south / west Period : april to november Guides - maps : IGN top 25, 3336 ET, Les 2 Alpes. Les via ferrata autour de Grenoble et Briançon, éditions Glénat. Toutes les via ferrata de France, éditions Libris. This route gets off to a great start: a small rocky overhang above the turbulent Véneon! You then gain height until you reach a swinging footbridge that looks a bit like a bridge from the depths of Columbia… You pull yourself over a fine rock-step, followed by some slabs, before reaching the road to Saint-Christophe-en-Oisans, and the second part of the route to the Vierge du Collet and Saint-Christophe-en-Oisans. You can then walk down the road back to the car park, but it’s better to go down the footpath that leads to the hamlets called Les Granges and Alpe du Pin (turn right after the bridge over the Véneon). Cultural information : The legend of the Devil’s Bridge Under the bridge that now takes you to Saint-Christophe-en-Oisans is a lovely Roman bridge called the ‘Pont du Diable’ or Devil’s Bridge. Legend has it that this bridge was so difficult to build that the inhabitants of Saint-Christophe became disheartened and thought about giving up the project. A man appeared and offered an edifying deal: to build the bridge in a single night in exchange for the soul of the first person to cross the bridge. This could only be the hand of the devil, but the inhabitants accepted and deliberated throughout the night. In the morning, they sent over a rat chased by a cat… and the devil had to be satisfied with this soul. Duped, he swore vengeance. A cross was built there to protect those who use the bridge and the devil finally left the inhabitants in peace.

Refuge du Soreiller et l’Aiguille Dibona - Hiking

A fine hike up the Soreiller valley to see the extraordinary Aiguille Dibona and visit the mountain hut nestling at the foot of the needle. The hut terrace is the perfect place for watching mountaineers on the rock face. TECHNICAL INFORMATION Starting point: Saint Christophe en Oisans Height gain: 1 139 m Total duration: 3 hours Distance: 5 km ROUTES The traditional route starts from the entrance to Les Etages. After a climb up through rhododendron bushes, the path reaches the Combe d'Amont and crosses over the mountain stream on a footbridge. This is where you first see the extraordinary Dinona (3130 m), a needle standing proudly in the middle, with the mountain hut nestled at its foot. The flatter section following the Combe is a perfect place for a rest, before tackling the final, very steep switchbacks leading up to the hut, with its red shutters already within sight. The alternative, less tamed and more difficult route follows the "Montagne d'en bas" path which starts around 500 m before the hamlet of Les Etages, next to a small bridge, before crossing a large rockfall. It passes alongside some caves and you can see a large, flat, balancing slab of stone. Surprising! The first half of the route zigzags up through rocky outcrops, before turning sharply right (eastwards) to join the ridge separating the two valleys. The Aiguille Dibona suddenly comes into view around a bend. You then turn westwards into the silent Vallon d'en Bas at the foot of the imposing Aiguille du Plat de la Selle (3596 m). Turn eastwards again to the Arête du Soratay at 2800 m, before carrying on to the mountain hut. Take care, as this alternative route is exposed and difficult and is only suitable for the upwards hike in dry weather. EXTRA INFO The mountain hut is the starting point for many rock climbs. There's always someone to watch!

Sophie Dode Artiste Peintre

Painter. The mountain landscape, the horizons, the nature ... as a starting point and inspiration towards a coloured abstraction, vector of energy, impulses, dreams. Sophie Dode works from her studio a few minutes from Les 2 Alpes. Somewhere between landscape and abstraction, her creativity is nourished by the landscapes that surround us, the mountains, their lights and nature through the seasons. Landscape" then becomes a springboard from which this artist springs towards form, colour and line. Sophie Dode's paintings speak of space, moments and light. But also of our inner movement in contemplating nature... of those emotions of reconnecting to ourselves, to our dreams, to the beauty of the moment. This passionate artist lovingly produces her own acrylic and pigment-based paints, decanting the water used in her practice, and sorting the workshop's waste in a way that respects the environment.
