The tour crosses the Val de Moder and invites you to discover beautiful agricultural villages where hop cultivation is particularly present.

Take another look at Alsace through a unique crop: hops. In the heart of the Pays de la Zorn, you can discover this aromatic plant which is an essential component of beer production. Its cultivation offers an unusual and attractive landscape. So don't miss this 4.5 km discovery trail through the hop fields of Wingersheim, commune of Wingersheim les 4 Bans and hop capital of Alsace. The Discovery Trail is led by members of the "Au Cœur des Houblonnières d'Alsace" association. The trail can also be explored on guided tours from mid-April to the end of September (booking required) for groups, and from July to August for individuals.

This loop starts at Hochfelden, famous for its beer-making, and takes you on a hillside ride with a view over Strasbourg Cathedral as you cycle through the charming little villages, including Hohatzenheim with its Romanesque basilica. Wingersheim is the capital of hop growing, where you can discover how this plant is cultivated and its properties while appreciating its subtle aroma when you taste the local farm-brewed beer. You return via the canal path which meanders alongside the river Zorn.

In one day, discover remarkable garden, half-timbered houses, culinary tradition and path. Take the car in Niederbronn-les-Bains and follow N62 in the direction of Haguenau. At the red light in the center of Mertzwiller, tur right and then follow "Espace Stéphane Grappelli" there you have possibilities to park your car. Going through the suburb of Robertsau, known for its market gardens, the trail runs along along the edge of the grounds of the Château de Pourtalès to lead to the high water dyke which runs parallel to the Rhine. After La Wantzenau, renowned for its old half- timbered houses and its restaurants, the cyclist then finds himself going through a succession of villages. Then, he returns to the banks of the Rhine via the site of the big locks at Gambsheim and Offendorf, a typical boat-men's village, before bearing west. The route then goes through the towns of Bischwiller and Haguenau, as well as the famous Marian pilgrimage site at Marienthal. After Brumath, the return route to Strasbourg follows the Marne-Rhine canal. At the end of the trail, a visit to the Fort Rapp at Reichstett is possible.

This loop enables you to discover a slice of authentic Alsatian heritage as you cycle through picturesque villages with large half-timbered farmhouses and 4 museums providing complementary information on the history and traditions of the regions of Hanau and Zorn. Here, you can visit the vast heritage left by Jewish communities with synagogues in Hochfelden and Bouxwiller and the Jewish cemetery in Ettendorf.

After Haguenau, renowned notably for its museums and the Fishermen's Tower, the route follows an easy forest road through the Haguenau Forest. After leaving Pfaffenhoffen, seat of the Museum of Popular and Painted Alsatian Imagery (Musée de l'Imagerie populaire et peinte alsacienne), the road then allows you to discover the agricultural villages of the Hanau country, whose typical architecture mixes red sandstone and half- timbering. Hills, forests and cereal crops make up the countryside. The arrival in Hochfelden, a brewery town, marks a change of scenery. After crossing the Zorn valley and the Marne- Rhine canal, the cyclist then finds himself amidst hopfields. Particular attention should be paid to the village of Hohatzenheim, a place of pilgrimage, where there is a remarkable 12th century church.

The route is laid out on dedicated lanes, allowing you to discover a variety of landscapes and exceptional sites of interest. The ruins of Grand Arnsbourg, a castle dating back to the middle of the 12th century, are between Philippsbourg and Niederbronn. The castle was built to survey the Zinsel valley leading to Bitche. Louis d'Arnsbourg was the first occupant in 1229; from 1332, it was in the hands of the Lords of Lichtenberg until the last descendant died in 1481. The Count of Deux-Pont-Bitche became proprietor until the castle was partially destroyed during the Peasant War. For security reason access is strictly forbidden. Access: Forestry car park on the D87. Follow the red rectangles up to the path which lead you to the ruin in approximately 30 minutes

Realising that the small catholic community no longer had a place of worship, his Grace himself, from Pont des Loges, Bishop of Metz and a great builder, financed a chapel dedicated to the Immaculate Conception. It shelters the statue of the Virgin Mary as a child. The front of the chapel shows the door and the window in Neo-gothic style. It was inaugurated in August 1886, the same day as the benfactor died. In March 1945, the chapel was badly damaged in the allied bombardments. After the war, the recostruction was slow until Etienne Olland arrived in 1958. the ltter had a serious illness. he had a statue of the Virgin sculptured and was looking for somewhere to place it and discovered Baerenthal. He accelerated the work on the chapel and installed the modern statue of the Virgin carved by the scupltor Keller from Molsheim and the chapel was named "Notre Dame de a Confiance". From the beginning of May, 1960 up to his death in 1971, etienne Olland organised numerous pilgrimages to Notre Dame de la Confiance. Thanks to him the pilgrimages sprung to life and continue to this day. Discover: The chapel is on the village heritage path "au grès du chemin...notre histoire", a 3,7km circular trail.

Built at the end of the 13th century by the lords of Falkenstein under the bishop of Strasbourg's orders, the Ramstein castle was built to control he access through the Zinsel valley. But during the 14th century, the Lords of ramstein transformed the castle into a den of thieves, robbing and exorting the whole region. Faced with this delicate situation, troops from Strasbourg helped by their allies from Berne organised a punitive expedition against the fortress. With war machines and stone boulders, the Ramstein was entirely destroyed un 1335.

The history of La Petite Pierre goes back almost to the dawn of time. Already in Celtic times, a dalt route ran through this pass. Then, in Roman times, it was a junction of important routes on the Via Bassoniaca which linked Alsace to Lorraine. This strategic importance explains the rich heritage of the site and in particular the presence of a castle which served to protect and control it. The present castle was built at the end of the 12th century. Today it features vestiges from the 13th to the 18th centuries.

On the banks of Schmalenthalerweiher, the fishing lake at Baerenthal, a wooden observatory has been set up to observe migrating birds in spring and in autumn. There are mallards, kingfishers, hoopoes, herons and many others. You can reach the observatory by the forestry road linking Baerenthal to Bannstein.

Located between Ergersheim and Furdenheim, on the site of the former village of Altbronn. Altbronn, or Altbrunne (literally the "Old Fountain"), used to be a flourishing hamlet in the early Middle-Ages. The village disappeared during the first half of the 14th century, due to civil wars and the plague. The only thing left was the church dedicated to the Virgin Mary, built by Bishop Guillaume de Diest during his pilgrimage in 1397 (inscription embedded in a stone slab, on the South side of the chapel). In the 15th and 16th centuries, the sanctuary respectively entered a period of prosperity and decline.Then, Bishop Jean de Manderscheidt entrusted the place of pilgrimage to the Jesuits who administered a school in Molsheim at the time. Altbronn was abandoned in 1765, when the State closed down the Jesuit school. In 1883, the chapel was bought by the parish council of Ergersheim. Since then, the influx of pilgrims never ceased to increase. When the Cistercians from Oelenberg, better known as the Trappistines, settled into Ergersheim in 1895, they borrowed the chapel's name for their monastery built in the town center. A few steps from the site of pilgrimage is St. Anne's spring, where miracles have been recorded by the Jesuits since the 16th century. It was supposed to help mothers avoid health complications during pregnancy.

About twenty kilometres from Strasbourg, lies the thirty hectares of the hillside Kefferberg beling once to the vineyard of Strasbourg, one of the oldest vineyards in Alsace. From the 4th century, vines would have been planted on these hills close to Argentoratum (the Roman name of Strasbourg) and patrician villas between Kirchheim and Marlenheim. The soil of Kefferberg is composed of clay interspersed with limestone-sandstone layers. Its gentle slopes, its south-facing orientation and its micro-climate may it benefit from an extraordinary drought resistance reinforced by silica on the surface which warms also the soil by their «magnifying» effect. This warmth gives dry wines a relatively subtle acidity, a rich material and aromas that make them great gastronomic wines. While below the hillside flows the river Bruche which promotes the development of botrytis (grey rot) on the grapes and transform the wines into fabulous sweet like the late harvests and the selections of noble grains. All the Alsatian grape varieties grow on the vineyards of Ergersheim. It offers magnificent views: the Vosges, the cathedral of Strasbourg, the chapel Saint-Michel d'Ergersheim (the last vestige of a village destroyed during the Thirty Years' War).

The "Rimlen" Chapel is the only remaining piece of the former village of Rimlenheim. The hamlet was destroyed by the Armagnacs. An office is being held annually, on the 29th September (St. Michael's day), to commemorate the departed. If you want to discover this chapel, exit the village and take the road towards Ernolsheim sur Bruche. The building is in the middle of the vineyard.

The Falkenstein castle is the most important castle in Pays de Bitche. It was built in th 12th century under the Count of Lutzelbourg's orders to protect the Holy forest of Haguenau. In 1564, the last Lord of Falkenstein sold the castle to Philip IV of Hanau Lichtenberg. The structure was in flames for 5 days and nights. Several buildings were rebuilt rather hastily but were finally dismantled by the French in 1680. The ruins that remain today crown a large sandstone rock, 117m in length, 2 to 10m wide and 22m high. Once inside the arched entrance, the shape of a head of a falcon can be distinguished in the overhang of rock - Falken: falcon, Stein: rock. On the same ridge, to the side of the Falkenstein, is Helfenstein castle, "the rock that brings help". In 1410, this castle was built with the money from the villagers in Butten, Kirspach and Birsbach, the Duke of Lorraine's fieifs. It was destroyed in 1435. Vincent and Olympe are two passionate dog lovers and welcome you to their charming holiday home on the edge of the forest and near a small river. It is located in Baerenthal (border Alsace / Lorraine), a green holiday resort in the regional nature park of the Northern Vosges. The 60 m² holiday home is equipped with all the facilities you need for a pleasant stay. It has a comfortable bedroom, a fully equipped kitchen and a newly renovated bathroom. Would you like to share playful moments with your dog? Your four-legged friend is welcomed during your stay! Breakfast is available at a cost of € 10.00 per person.

The Youth Centre at Baerenthal welcomes groups into a unique natural setting. This centre has 10 bungalows each with 8 beds, 2 chalets with 4 beds, 2 chalets with 2 beds, 7 chalets with 12 beds and a pavilion (13 double rooms + 2 single rooms - each with a bathroom and toilet). Perfect for training and professional courses. Gym and adventure park on site.

You'll be staying in one of the oldest houses on the street. It dates back to 1948 and has been completely renovated inside. Situated on a hill, it overlooks the street and the valley. You'll love the view over the intimate private garden, where you can relax on the terrace under the pergola. Le refuge de l'ours refers to the name of the village of Baerenthal, "the valley of the bears". Each room is named after a bear. Grizzly Bear, Brown Bear and Polar Bear. The art will introduce you to some of the landscapes of the Pays de Bitche. Beds made up on arrival. Cleaning is included in the price of your stay.

The hotel is at the centre of the village of philippsbourg, opposite the Falkenstein restaurant (same owner). Completly renovated in 2009, it has nine en-suite bedrooms. Half or full board are also possible. There is a breakfast buffet

It consists of 2 bedrooms: one with a double bed and the other with 3 bunk beds (with sheets, pillows and duvets). The living room is equipped with a sofa bed, TV, Wi-Fi, furniture with dishes, a large table with 6 chairs and a cooker. The small kitchen has a fridge, microwave, coffee maker, toaster and pots. Bathroom with shower, toilet, towels and bed linen are provided. Washing machine and dryer. To enjoy the beautiful season, there is an outdoor kitchen with a large fireplace, fridge, camping table, chairs, etc. From a minimum of two nights in low season and weekly rentals in summer. These small wooden chalets at the far end of the campsite are ideal for relaxing and getting back to nature. For 2, 4 or 5 people, these chalets, equipped with bunks and an equipped kitchen area give a bit of comfort to camping. There is a separate communal sanitary block close by, reserved for the chalets where you will find the showers, toilets and washing area.
