Mountain bike route "In the heart of the chestnut trees". The paper version of the hiking map is available from our Information Points for €0.50. A tour that will allow you to appreciate many typical villages in the heart of the Châtaigneraie such as Calvinet, your starting point (at the church) or the ‘chestnut village’, Mourjou. There are superb viewpoints on a very varied route, including the Aubrac plateau, the north of Aveyron and the Rance Valley. Numerous rich and varied panoramas due to a fairly long circuit crossing several different types of landscape (forest, plain, countryside, towns).

Hiking trail "des Puys". The village of Calvinet has a rich historical past. The first origins date back to 1250 with Eustache Beaumarchais, bailiff of the Mounts of Auvergne. This easy circuit will allow you to appreciate the traditional architecture and to discover superb views: Château de La Mothe, Aubrac and Aveyron plateaux, Rance Valley and the village of Saint-Antoine. Hiking trail "The Lady of Castel d'Auze". Sénezergues is a small picturesque village irrigated by numerous streams that flow into the River Auze. This path allows you to discover a past full of history and magnificent views of the Don Gorge. You will discover the ruins of a castle built in the Middle Ages: legend has it that in the 13th century there lived a very beautiful lady who, abandoned by her knight husband, began to write marvellous poems which made her famous: the Lady of Castel d'Auze. Hiking trail "The Chestnut trees". This walk will help you discover the hidden treasures of the traditional architecture of the Châtaigneraie, from the 16th century church to the beautiful farms with closed courtyards and entrance porches. The chestnut is celebrated every year in October during the famous Chestnut Fair which attracts thousands of visitors. You can also visit the Maison de la Châtaigne, a museum dedicated to the fruit of the “breadfruit” tree. Hiking trail “The Treasures of the Upper Célé”. This path is closely linked to the Maison de la Châtaigne, which you can visit. Very shaded, it will lead you to the discovery of the Haut-Célé Gorge. You will appreciate the variety of environments, the diversity of the vegetation, you will guess the presence of animals and imagine the action of man in this landscape. Hiking trail “The Devil’s Rocks”. Junhac is a pretty, picturesque, flower-filled village nestled in the heart of a valley, remarkable for its typical Châtaigneraie architecture. The interest of this path is both architectural (old mill, hamlets of Pressoires and Peyre) and geological: the Devils’s Rocks, a climbing site, is a granite vein. Hiking trail "Le Veinazès" Situated in the heart of the Veinazès Basin, Sansac has a Gothic church with a beautiful example of a bell gable, typical of this region. This route also allows you to discover numerous viewpoints: on the Veinazès Basin, Montsalvy and its Puy de l'Arbre site as well as the Aubrac Plateau. Hiking trail "The glacial basin". The village is situated on a tongue of schist in the relief and dominates an ancient glacial valley on both sides. It is surrounded by a fortified enclosure called The Fort, the gate of which still remains. The route overlooks and skirts the glacial basin of Leynhac, a rare phenomenon in the Châtaigneraie. You will also discover beautiful old houses in the hamlets you pass through. Hiking trail “The Veinazès Basin”. The village of Labesserette is built around a beautiful 13th century church which houses a listed 15th century pietà. Its gothic style preserves some rather enigmatic sculpted figures of men and animals. This pleasant and not very difficult walk offers some views of the village of Junhac and the Veinazès Basin. The campsite is situated near the Lot river at the border between Cantal and Aveyron. Camping Coursavy is situated on the banks of the Lot, surrounded by wooded hillsides. Thanks to its sheltered location and very low altitude (200 m), the climate is very mild from spring onwards. The campsite has 46 spacious pitches and 4 chalets. All pitches have electricity and a picnic table. It is an ideal starting point for many cycling and walking routes, or for visiting old villages. You can swim in the river You can swim in the river, fish and 10 km away is the Vieillevie canoeing base. The campsite has a friendly atmosphere, where young and old will feel at ease. Free wifi access is available throughout the campsite.

The fortress that once overlooked Calvinet must have been quite a sight. Don't look for it, it was razed to the ground four centuries ago, but the village has retained all its character, and it's easy to guess that it knew glorious times:

Sénezergues is located South of the natural region of Veinazès, in the Southern part of the Châtaigneraie. The village above the Auze river is connected to two important hiking paths, crossing the diversity of the Châtaigneraie landscapes.

L’Estanquiol: free swimming area supervised in July and August everyday afternoons. Opening subject to favourable bathing conditions. Fishing activity (1st category = whitefish): Specific local card on sale at the Calvinet post office: 5 trout per day, €6 per adult per day or €40 per season. Access subject to suitable bathing and fishing conditions.

La Maison de la Châtaigne is a discovery center dedicated to the history, expertise and traditions linked to the chestnut. The museum, processing workshop and activities highlight this emblematic fruit and the heritage of the Châtaigneraie area of Cantal. Immerse yourself in the world of the Maison de la Châtaigne, a living reminder of the chestnut-growing past: a 1950s grocery store, bread oven, chestnut dryer, underground galleries, gardens, tree nursery, and animals... Discover the culture of chestnut trees from yesterday to today and watch chestnut flour being made in our processing workshop. Savour a local specialty, explore the gourmet shop with its wide range of chestnut-based products, and enjoy a moment of relaxation in the coffee corner, overlooking the landscape of the Châtaigneraie Cantalienne. Wooden games, a parent-powered merry-go-round and little discoveries will delight the whole family!

The Fallow Deer Park is located in a beautiful wooded area of the Cantalien Châtaigneraie Cantalienne. All along the 2 km long path, on foot or by trackless train (minimum 10 people), you will get up close to fallow deer and maybe even feed them (possible until around 25 August). Restaurant at nearby Auberge de la Normandie preferably by reservation.

In the Southern part of the Châtaigneraie, in the natural region of Veinazès, Junhac is located between the Auze river and the Combenousse creek. Two hiking paths go through the village and its wonderful landscapes.

Visit of the medieval fortress of Vieillevie (11th-13th centuries) in July and August. Storytelling tours (in French): Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 5pm. Places are limited, so bookings must be made by text message or e-mail. The castle dominates the Lot Valley from its high towers. It is an authentic defensive fortress: sentry walks, archways, and defensive hoardings. Above the lower rooms carved into the rock, you will discover the large Renaissance rooms with their finely sculpted mullioned windows and their monumental 13th century fireplaces, among the oldest in France.

The southernmost river of Cantal is the Lot River. The valley is situated at 200 meters altitude. The weather is mild and shows another facet of the Châtaigneraie. Enjoy the beautiful panoramas (Montmurat, Aubespeyre), discover the history of the medieval castle, go canoeing...

Would you believe it if we told you that the Châtaigneraie sometimes looks like a flat country? Come to Leynhac if you're not convinced... And if you need more to make the diversions, come and see the village fort and the chapel of Notre-Dame-du-Pont!

The Auberge des Voyageurs offers traditional home-cooked cuisine made with local produce, as well as five guest rooms.

L'Auberge de Mourjou, with its restaurant and guest rooms, has been open since 18 March 2024. Daily menu (€19,90) from Monday 12pm to Friday 2pm. Chef Kara Asatryan's menu (€39) is available for lunch and dinner on Saturdays and lunch on Sundays. Booking recommended. The chef's menu consists of a choice of two starters, a choice of two main courses and a choice of two desserts. The menu changes every 2 weeks according to the season and her inspiration. You can also make the most of our shaded terrace in fine weather.

Christophe's inventive cuisine combines the flavours of Auvergne with those of the Mediterranean. Meals are served on a beautiful terrace shaded by an octogenarian wisteria with a view of the swimming pool and the River Lot or in the restaurant room.
