Mountain bike route "In the heart of the chestnut trees". The paper version of the hiking map is available from our Information Points for €0.50. A tour that will allow you to appreciate many typical villages in the heart of the Châtaigneraie such as Calvinet, your starting point (at the church) or the ‘chestnut village’, Mourjou. There are superb viewpoints on a very varied route, including the Aubrac plateau, the north of Aveyron and the Rance Valley. Numerous rich and varied panoramas due to a fairly long circuit crossing several different types of landscape (forest, plain, countryside, towns).

Hiking trail "des Puys". The village of Calvinet has a rich historical past. The first origins date back to 1250 with Eustache Beaumarchais, bailiff of the Mounts of Auvergne. This easy circuit will allow you to appreciate the traditional architecture and to discover superb views: Château de La Mothe, Aubrac and Aveyron plateaux, Rance Valley and the village of Saint-Antoine. Hiking trail "The Lady of Castel d'Auze". Sénezergues is a small picturesque village irrigated by numerous streams that flow into the River Auze. This path allows you to discover a past full of history and magnificent views of the Don Gorge. You will discover the ruins of a castle built in the Middle Ages: legend has it that in the 13th century there lived a very beautiful lady who, abandoned by her knight husband, began to write marvellous poems which made her famous: the Lady of Castel d'Auze. Hiking trail "The Chestnut trees". This walk will help you discover the hidden treasures of the traditional architecture of the Châtaigneraie, from the 16th century church to the beautiful farms with closed courtyards and entrance porches. Hiking trail “The Treasures of the Upper Célé”. This path is closely linked to the Maison de la Châtaigne, which you can visit. Very shaded, it will lead you to the discovery of the Haut-Célé Gorge. Hiking trail “The Devil’s Rocks”. Junhac is a pretty, picturesque, flower-filled village nestled in the heart of a valley, remarkable for its typical Châtaigneraie architecture. The interest of this path is both architectural (old mill, hamlets of Pressoires and Peyre) and geological: the Devils’s Rocks, a climbing site, is a granite vein. Hiking trail "The glacial basin". The village is situated on a tongue of schist in the relief and dominates an ancient glacial valley on both sides. It is surrounded by a fortified enclosure called The Fort, the gate of which still remains. The route overlooks and skirts the glacial basin of Leynhac, a rare phenomenon in the Châtaigneraie. The fortress that once overlooked Calvinet must have been quite a sight. Don't look for it, it was razed to the ground four centuries ago, but the village has retained all its character, and it's easy to guess that it knew glorious times:

Sénezergues is located South of the natural region of Veinazès, in the Southern part of the Châtaigneraie. The village above the Auze river is connected to two important hiking paths, crossing the diversity of the Châtaigneraie landscapes.

Warning: Swimming and fishing prohibited from 15/08 - presence of cyanotoxins. L’Estanquiol: free swimming area supervised in July and August everyday afternoons. Fishing activity (1st category = whitefish): Specific local card on sale at the Calvinet post office: 5 trout per day, €6 per adult per day or €40 per season. Discover the culture of chestnut trees from yesterday to today and watch chestnut flour being made in our processing workshop. Savour a local specialty, explore the gourmet shop with its wide range of chestnut-based products, and enjoy a moment of relaxation in the coffee corner, overlooking the landscape of the Châtaigneraie Cantalienne. Wooden games, a parent-powered merry-go-round and little discoveries will delight the whole family!

In the Southern part of the Châtaigneraie, in the natural region of Veinazès, Junhac is located between the Auze river and the Combenousse creek. Two hiking paths go through the village and its wonderful landscapes.

Visit of the medieval fortress of Vieillevie (11th-13th centuries) in July and August. Storytelling tours (in French): Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 5pm. Places are limited, so bookings must be made by text message or e-mail. The castle dominates the Lot Valley from its high towers. It is an authentic defensive fortress: sentry walks, archways, and defensive hoardings. Above the lower rooms carved into the rock, you will discover the large Renaissance rooms with their finely sculpted mullioned windows and their monumental 13th century fireplaces, among the oldest in France.

The southernmost river of Cantal is the Lot River. The valley is situated at 200 meters altitude. The weather is mild and shows another facet of the Châtaigneraie. Enjoy the beautiful panoramas (Montmurat, Aubespeyre), discover the history of the medieval castle, go canoeing...

Would you believe it if we told you that the Châtaigneraie sometimes looks like a flat country? Come to Leynhac if you're not convinced... And if you need more to make the diversions, come and see the village fort and the chapel of Notre-Dame-du-Pont!
