It follows part of the Way of St James (Via Arverna) and joins the hike of the Cassan and Prentegarde Marshes. Mountain bike route "From the quays to the lakeshore". The paper version of the hiking map is available from our Information Points for €0.50. This circuit along the river starts in the heart of the picturesque village of Laroquebrou (Place du Foirail). As we leave the medieval village, we leave the River Cère to reach Saint-Étienne-Cantalès Dam lake. A rolling, family-friendly route, this loop allows you to discover a beautiful built heritage as well as vast areas of plains and forests. You also have the chance, during this route, to walk along the famous and historic Saint-Étienne-Cantalès Dam, built between 1939 and 1945, before reaching Laroquebrou and its older part, spread out near the promontory of Montal Castle.

Hiking trail “The 4 castles”. Laroquebrou, an ancient medieval village, was an important passageway for pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela. After a look at the old town, its gothic church, Rue Damont and its half-timbered houses, Merle district... let yourself be carried away by this little stroll and observe the Four Castles of La Barthe, Messac, Nèpes and Laroque, with its unobstructed view of the village and the Cère Valley. This lovely, mainly woodland route allows you to enjoy the vast areas of countryside near the village of Siran. Starting from the Place de l'Église, you will discover a beautiful Cantal heritage of barns and old mills, before venturing into varied and more remote areas of Siran's vast forests. This is a pleasant route for beginners, with a rural and bucolic atmosphere and shaded areas in the countryside. A rolling loop for the whole family.

Hiking trail "des Fraulières". The village of Pers is located on the banks of Saint-Étienne-Cantalès Lake, a 562 ha reservoir. Through this path you will enter the domain of Jean des Fraulières, an old charcoal maker who supplied charcoal to all the surrounding communes of the lake. Along the way, you will discover a millstone, a fountain and a hut, all of which bear witness to the charcoal-making activity. You will also see the Ribeyrès Viaduct. Hiking trail "of the beautiful views”. Omps is a small medieval village grouped around its 12th century church in which one can admire a beautiful 16th century pietà. This circular village has typical old houses as well as a century-old fountain. Free visits in French of the hydroelectric power station of Saint-Étienne-Cantalès are organized by EDF and the Visitors Bureau in Laroquebrou every Friday from June to September and every Tuesday between 07/15 and 08/19: historical aspects, functioning, safety... A 124 m long Himalayan footbridge spans Lake Saint-Étienne-Cantalès to link the beaches of Espinet and Rénac. Blending into the landscape, it will let you discover the lake from a different angle.

The second largest artificial lake in Auvergne is 13 km long and covers an area of 563 ha. Scientific name : Natrix maura. Diurnal water snake, grey or brown with some red or yellow on the back. Length from 0,7 (male) to 1 m (female). Habitat : Rivers, lakes, areas of stagnant water. South-Western Europe, North-Western Africa. Reproduction : 3 to 16 eggs in spring. Food : Small fish, amphibians.

Scientific name : Lacerta bilineata. Green, blue and yellow reptile, length 30 cm, weight 30g. Habitat : Green humid areas, temperate forests, the edges of woods, shrubland, open grassland, and pastureland Spain, France, Jersey, Guernsey, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Saint-Martin, Croatia. Food : Insects.
