A pleasant walk in the forest along Morzine's Dranse river. On the way there's St Jean d'Aulps village to visit with its neo-Gothic church. This family walk is suitable for all.

Enjoy a refreshing break as you stroll along the banks of the Dranse. The Dérèches walk is a flat, low-mountain trail beside the river. Undemanding, it's ideal for a morning jog or simply to relax. All around you, the background music is composed of two sounds: the trickling of the river and birdsong. The shelter of the trees and proximity to the Dranse make for a pleasant stroll, without feeling too hot.

An easy hike from the heights of Montriond along a forest trail to the hamlet of Guéritolles, from where you can enjoy superb panoramic views over the villages of Montriond, Morzine and Essert-Romand. Along the way, you'll see traditional granaries and alpine chalets, and enjoy magnificent views of the surrounding villages and peaks.

A steep road along the beautiful Lac de Montriond. It's hard not to stop, but be sure to do so on the way down. Watch out for the goats in the village of Les Lindarets! Gradient: 6%. This legendary col has featured in the Tour de France seven times. Quite shady at first and consisting of steeper ramps between long false flats, the gradient kicks up to 10% after Montriond. Be careful when going through Les Lindarets, as it is not unusual to find herds of goats nonchalantly occupying the road! The final section of the climb is more regular, zigzagging up through the forest to the Col de Joux verte.

A pleasant walk accessible to all, from the centre of the village to the superb Lac de Montriond. A woodland trail where you can enjoy the natural coolness of summer. Take the time to marvel and recharge your batteries in this green paradise!

Above the forest, you cross a large expanse of snow to return to the charming alpine village of Mont Caly with magnificent views of the Mont Blanc chain. Leave the hamlet of Les Places (accessed via the route de Mont Caly from Les Gets). Take the forest path down to the hamlet of 'Bonnavaz', where you cross the first bridge. Then take the groomed track to the second bridge. The path now follows the winding track climbing into the forest and up to the Col de l'Encrenaz. Then climb the north slope of Mont Chéry with a lovely view of the Roc d'Enfer and Praz de Lys. Attention: This is a long and difficult circuit and is not recommended when snow or fog are forecast. At the heart of the alpine Graydon pasture, under the hardened eye of the majestic roc d’enfer, you find the little Graydon chapel. It was built in 1859 and then entirely renovated in 2009 The Graydon chapel constructed in 1859, allowed for the parishes of ST Jean d’Aulps and that of Essert Romand, separated a few years earlier to keep a certain link between them. It was in 1902 that the Swiss architect, Goss, constructed the entrance porche where two Capitals where added that came from the Aulps Abbey. The chapel in consecrated to the immaculate conception is today a place of celebrations and all through the summer season the parish celebrates a mass every Wednesday You can get there from Essert Romand or from the little hamlet called Valette at St Jean d’Aulps

At the foot of the Roc d'Enfer mountains, this hollow coomb is a huge Alpine pasture, surrounded by stunning, steep cliffs. The Graydon chapel and surrounding chalets offer a genuine and peaceful glimpse of a mountain way of life. Located at 1340m and rising to 2243m, the Graydon meadows are easily accessible by car in summer from Essert-Romand. Graydon is the starting point for many walks including the Roc d'Enfer tour, a delightful route that winds through Alpine meadows, offering a glimpse of marmottes and deer. This circuit has superb panoramas of the Aravis mountains, the Roc d'Enfer and the Mt Blanc range. Visitors who wish to learn more about the chapel are invited to go in. It dates from the 19th century but was recently restored, providing a place to sit quietly and recharge your batteries. It hosts several services throughout the warmer months.

A fine mountain meadow with an impregnable view of Mont Blanc, the Aravis range, the Dents du Midi and the peaks of the Vallée d’Aulps. Access from le Col de l'Encrenaz (15 minutes by foot) and can also be accessed after a walk from Graydon village (part of the walking route “Roc d’Enfer tour”). Col Ratti, which is the highest point of this Alpine meadow, is easy to reach and presents no technical challenges, and offers a wonderful panoramic view.

A slate-quarry worker welcomes you into his workshop to present the history of Morzine's 200-years old slate industry and demonstrates his modern work-techniques. One of the last slate quarries in France, with the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (Living Heritage Company) label, we perpetuate this ancestral activity while innovating in extraction and working methods, and offering traditional and fashionable products for roofing, interior and exterior fittings.

Unusually, Saint Jean d’Aulps has two parish churches, one opposite the town hall and another -- Saint Jean the Baptist -- on the opposite side of the river Dranse. This second church is more commonly known as “Moussière” church, after the hamlet where it was built at the end of the 19th century in the Gothic style. This magnificent church was recently restored by the hamlet’s residents. Those interested in pushing open its vast doors will find a pretty statue of Saint Guerin, the patron saint of Aulps Valley. This fine place of worship is also the venue for many summer events, playing host to numerous concerts.

This stunning lake - known also as the emerald green lake - sits quietly at the foot of immense cliffs and is a favourite with children and adults thanks to the idyllic vision it offers and the feeling of calm it evokes. Lake Montriond was created after a part of the Nantaux mountain fell away to the north-west. Although it is unclear when this landslide happened - estimates vary from 300 to 4500 years ago!) the landslide created a natural dam in the existing river which became the lake we see today. The water level was nonetheless prone to serious fluctations and a huge project to rectify this was completed in 1990 thanks to Montriond town hall. Since then the tourist industry has flourished... Montriond Lake is a huge outdoor playground with something for everyone...it includes a swimming area that's suitable for even very young swimmers, while other visitors can try pony riding, canoeing, paddle or mini-golf. Older children and adults also enjoy walking around the lake to take in the intoxicating beauty of it all... The Lake is also a jewel of a find for anglers, with its healthy stock of fario trout and rainbow trout, char and tiddlers! A fishing licence is required so enthusiasts must wait until the snow has melted before they can start to uncover the riches that lie beneath the surface... In figures, Montriond Lake is 33 hectares in size, or 25000 to 35000m2 depnding on the water level. Lake Montriond is a Chablais UNESCO Global Geopark Key Site. As you walk around Montriond lake you will discover the glacial history of the valley, the Sarde land registry and also the tale of the extravagant Baron de l'Espée...

And because a refuge is, first and foremost, a stage on the road of the walker, you only have to follow the path to arrive at the lake of Tavaneuse, at the foot of the mount Grange (2432m) or even to Prétairié . The mountain refuge comprises a 24-bed dormitory, a lounge area where you can finish your card games, and a bathroom with two showers available for use. Our accommodation package includes dinner, an overnight stay and breakfast. The meal consists of a Savoyard speciality served with a salad and a dessert. Please bring indoor shoes or slippers, as well as your toiletries.
