The village of Butz was united with that of Balaives by royal decree of King Charles X on 25 May 1828. The nave and choir of Saint-Loup church in Butz appear to date back to the Middle Ages. Etablissements Vynex is located on the site of an 18th-century fulling mill with a water wheel. The Ernest Valeur tile works, founded in the 19th century, took over the buildings of the textile factory. It manufactured mechanical roof tiles and drainage pipes, using clay from Singly and Etrépigny. It closed in 1905 and the kilns were destroyed in 1952. In 1920, the site was bought by Charles Aimé Baudet, with the help of his son René, to set up a small celluloid moulding factory, producing mainly bicycle handles for sale abroad, before moving into plastic sheathing and cables for bicycles. The company changed its name to Vynex in the 1950s, diversifying into wholesale, hardware and DIY products. Extensions were built to the north in the 1950s. The Bleue has a pronounced bitterness, compared to the Rouge, which is beautifully round, with a fruity taste calling to mind kirsch, while the special Christmas beer, Ardwen de Noël, is more complex, with a subtle blend of spices. The Ardwen logo depicts the goddess Arduinna, protector of the forest, astride a wild boar: we’ll wager she protects this brewery like treasure, as the worthy heir of Ardennes brewing know-how.

The DOMOISELLES farm was created in 2020 by Azéline and Johan in the commune of DOM-LE-MESNIL. The couple breed around forty Lorraine goats. This breed, which was once threatened, is important to the couple, who regularly praise it for its good dairy genetics, hardy regional goats and good adaptation to the Ardennes climate. With their herd, the farmers produce milk which they process on site into goat's milk cheese, yoghurt and ice cream. These products are sold directly from the farm, and are also used to enhance the preparations of local artisans (bakeries, pizzerias). The couple take part in numerous events in the Ardennes, contributing to the development of the region. Since 2022, the farm has been open to the public, offering guided tours for families throughout the year, as well as personalised visits for professional organisations.
