Description

Etablissements Vynex is located on the site of an 18th-century fulling mill with a water wheel. The Ernest Valeur tile works, founded in the 19th century, took over the buildings of the textile factory. It manufactured mechanical roof tiles and drainage pipes, using clay from Singly and Etrépigny. It closed in 1905 and the kilns were destroyed in 1952. In 1920, the site was bought by Charles Aimé Baudet, with the help of his son René, to set up a small celluloid moulding factory, producing mainly bicycle handles for sale abroad, before moving into plastic sheathing and cables for bicycles. The company changed its name to Vynex in the 1950s, diversifying into wholesale, hardware and DIY products. Extensions were built to the north in the 1950s. It employed 15 people in 1932, 60 in 1951 and 160 in 1979.
The walls of the former flour mill are made of Dom-le-Mesnil limestone rubble and have a long-sloped roof with a broken half-hipped roof and slate covering. They occupy the southern end of the plot, part of which is below the road. The waterwheel was located in the building at an angle. The walls of the 1950s extensions are made of cement-coated hollow brick and concrete blocks, with asbestos cement roofs. Inside, the structure is metal.
