A family ramble, however, do not underestimate the climb up to the Lebréjal plateau. The walk along the Brezons is restful then the path on the plateau offers a beautiful view. The circuit allows you to discover many different landscapes. The BREZONS VALLEY is 30km long, 2km wide and 800m deep and considered by some to be one of the most beautiful glacial valleys of Europe. D - DEPART: Church at Saint-Martin (heritage protected and dating from the XIV century, beautiful wall pantings). Take the D990 in the direction of the Hotel de la Poste (direction of AURILLAC). 1. After the hotel take the road to the left which overlooks the housing estate. Pass near a barn to the right and descend to river Brezons. 2 - Take the path at right and continue alongside the Brezons arriving in FEYDOLS. You observe beautiful houses and an old bakery house built with local stones. 3 - At the crossroad turn left and then right before the bridge. Hugging the river, pass an isolated house on the right and climb again towards MOULINGES. Before arriving at the village there was a mineral spring in one of the houses still exploited at the beginning of the century. 4 - At MOULINGES follow the road to the right and rejoin the D990. Continue at right for 100m (view of the Chateau du Meynial, above and to the right) 5 - Take a path below and to the right of the D990. Then rejoin the road. 6 - After 800m take a steep path on the left. Cross the D990. Opposite a stony path under the woods climbs to BUZERS. 7 - At BUZERS follow the road to the right passing LADASCOLS (views of the Cantal mountains with the Puy du Bane, the Plomb du Cantal and the Puy du Rocher). 8 - 250m after the crossing cross an open terrain to the right. The path between two small walls descends in undergrowth to the D354. 9 - Climb the road for 60 m. Take a path to the right which rejoins SAINT-MARTIN SOUS-VIGOUROUX. Mountainbike: impossible

This walk includes a difficult climb and descent through the deep slopes of the Brezons valley. The descending path trough loose stones where great car must be taken. No mountainbiking possible. D - In Saint-Martin-sous-Vigouroux, on the church square (parking lot). Follow the D990 to the left, towards Brezons. At the Fournier mill (on the left), cross the bridge and continue to the LA VOLPILIERE crossroads. 1 - 200 m further on, leave the road and turn right onto a path that rises up under ash and beech trees. Climb the path winding through the forest to a wider paved track, which you follow to the right as far as the village of BOUSSAC. 2 - In the village, take the road to the left for 200 metres. Then take a sandy track to the left, which narrows to a crossroads. Take the track on the left, which leads through a field to the IZERGUES cross. View over the Brezons valley. Take the low-walled path down to the village of IZERGUES. 3 - When you reach the village of IZERGUES, take the path on the right that leads to BARRES. Continue on the tarmac road, cross CHAPUS and continue straight on to LIADIERES. Turn left onto the D39, cross the bridge and climb towards La VERGNETTE. At the entrance to the hamlet, take the left-hand path up to the village of VIGOUROUX. 4 - Place de l'église, turn left and follow signs for LEBREJAL. At the "patte d'oie" (cross), follow a wide track, then a path between low walls. 5 - A little further on, a path climbs to the right and back, bringing you to an orientation table with views of Carladez, Aubrac, Vallée de Brezons and Monts du Cantal. Rejoin the path. 6 - At a crossroads above LEBREJAL, continue straight ahead through meadows to the road at a cross. 7 - Go downhill to the left, along the edge of a meadow, then into a small wood. Reach the tarmac above a barn. Go downhill on the road, passing the first hairpin bend on the right. 8 - Then pass a second bend at the information panel erected by the Parc Naturel Régional des Volcans d'Auvergne. View of the village of SAINT-MARTIN-SOUS-VIGOUROUX, the Aubrac and the Vallée de Brezons. Continue for another 300 m. 9 - Turn left onto a path on the edge of a scree, but be careful on the way down, as the terrain is slippery. It rapidly loses altitude through an area of coppice. Lower down, at a fork, leave the right-hand branch and continue downhill between low walls, to reach the village and the starting point. Not suitable for mountain bikes.

A 3 hours hike on the pastures of the Cantal Mountains with several mountain huts called "burons" where people made formerly in the summer the famous Cantal cheese. A pleasant hike above the Brezons Valley. D – DEPART: From VIGOUROUX at the beginning of the tarred path take the car until the forest (2,5 km). Do not follow the large path opposite but make your way to the left alongside the wall. Then penetrate the wood by a path to the left. 1 - Descend to the right on a large path which crosses a beech wood, follow the edge before following the stream. Cross the stream on a bridge of stones. Climb up opposite until the road. 2 - Follow the road until MONTREAL. Pass between the houses and continue on the path which keeps to the left. Follow it. At the crossroads leave the left branch and continue until a crossroad passing in front of a farm. 3. Follow opposite on a large path between meadows. At the following fork continue right in the direction of an old cowshed with corrugated blue roof. The route of the ramble arrives at the point of the beech wood. Stay on this good path which turns to the left and reach a parking place. 4 - The path passes near the ruins of the Buron du Louvatier. Beautiful view to the High Valley of Brezons and the Cantal mountains. Stay on the good path on the left until a parking place. 5 - Leave the track and take a grassy path in undergrowth. At the first crossroad go up to the right. By some bends join a large track. 6 - Follow to the left on the edge of the wood. Follow it until an opening in the wood. View to the Lebréjal and Aubrac plateau. 7 - At the following crossroad turn left on a path which again finds the wood. At the following crossroad go right then stay on this good track until the departure point. Mountainbike: difficult level. Time: count 1 hr 30 minutes. Difficult rise and uneven track between 1 and 2. Difficult descent between 1 and 2.

A family hike from 12 years around the waterfall of La Borie. Access only to the waterfall (there and back) from 5 years. Not adapted for people afraid of heights. No strollers. From the village of Brezons take the road D 57 in direction of Saint-Martin-sous-Vigouroux. After 1,5 km parking on your left. Information board. Access to the waterfall: D - Cross the village of La Borie and walk along the wood for 200 m. Then go down into a romantic little valley. 1 - Follow the path whith several wooden bridges. 2 - Go until the waterfall in the end of the valley. Return by the same way. Circular hiking trail: 3 - Climb up the 30 m wooden staircase and continue the path. Nice view on the waterfall. Follow the trail until retrieving the first way. Return to the parking. Circular trail from 12 years. Not for persons suffering from vertigo. Do not use if rain (slippery path). For all waterfalls: Watch your children!

Hike in a beautiful glacial valley where you can find in June some rare orchids. Care for good hiking shoes, some paths are wet and slippery. In Malbo restaurant and bar to take a breather or eat something. D - DEPART: From the church at LACAPELLE-BARRES. Return to just before the D990. To the right a path leads to the bridge. Cross the bridge and take the path to the left. 1 - Higher up take the 2nd path on the right. Follow this to the D401. 2 - .Follow the D 401 on the left and 50m before the crossroad of CHATOUR cross the field to the right and cross the Siniq. A good cobblestone track climbs to NOUVIALLE (this track can be very wet underfoot.) 3 - Cross the village and follow the road 4 - Take the path to the left. The path leads to the D57.View to the Puy de Bâne 5 - Climbing again take the path on the left to just behind ROUPON and to the left to a ford (a little footbridge to the right). 6 - Arrive on the road and take the path at right climbing to MALBO (can be very muddy). Cross the village and in a bend to the right follow the road for 300m. Take the path to the left, further on the path descends very steeply to LA FRANCIO. 7 - Cross the road. follow at right. Ahead the path climbs to LABRO and right behind CHATOURS. Viex to the Aubrac plateau. 8 - After the "vacherie of Malmeza" follow the same direction in private land and 300m further below cross the stile. A path leads to the bridge and to the point of departure by a path on the left after the bridge. Mountainbike: not possible, too dangerous and wet paths.

This easy family hike on good paths passes in the Chabridet wood and offers beautiful view points. Gourdièges is an interesting little village with an old church dating partly from the 16th century (visit outside only). D - From the Tourist Office in Pierrefort, take the D990 until the ancien post office. Turn right in the direction of SAINT- GERVAIS. 1 - At the sports field leave the Roman way and take the parallel path at right towards “PRE-CLAU”. 2 - At the end of the path to the left follow right towards CHABRIDET woods. 3 - Hug the woods to the right until the Roman way 4 - Follow to the right in the direction of GOURDlEGES. Beautiful view to the Aubrac plateau. 5 - At the end of the path follow the road to the left. 6 -Before the sign GOURDIEGES take the road to the right. Go towards the old bread oven called “Four Banal” (note the original archway and lauze roof). 7 - Continue straight on until the church and observe the old comb bell tower, the stone cross and a "trifront" next the entrance. Keep left until the exit to the village. View of the Plomb du Cantal and Puy de Rocher to the right. 8 - Take the path opposite until the D990. 9 - Follow the D990 to the left for 200m. 10 - Leave the road and take the way to the left. Re- enter the wood to the right until the Roman way then right and descend until Pierrefort. Mountainbike: Easy level. Count 1 hour. Marked green signed = .

A long but easy hike without any difficulties. Ideal piste for mountain bikers. From the plateau beautiful view to the montains. D - DEPART: From the Tourist Office, take the D990 for 200 m, direction SAlNT- FLOUR until the ancien Post Office, then to the right direction SAlNT- GERVAIS. 1 - At the sports field follow the left track direction of Bois de Chabridet. 2 - Cross CHABRIDET WOOD. 3 - In the middle of the forest turn at left and follow the sandy path to the D990. 4 - Follow the D990 to the right for 200 m then to the left. Bypass the PUY d’ASSAC. 5 - Arriving at the D34 follow it to the right for 300 m then take the path to the left towards TRENAC. 6 - In TRENAC take the first path on the left between the houses. 7 - The path borders the lake of Montzorier, fishing area. Views of the Puy de Bane, Puy de la Cede, Plomb de Cantal and the Puy de Rocher. 8 - Turn left towards MONTROZIER WOOD and cross it. 9 - Arriving on the D265 (note the path leads out of a bend). Continue for 200m then go right until the view point on the “CROlX d’ lSERGUES.” View of the BREZONS VALLEY. Return to the D265, cross it in direction of the wood. At the junction follow to the right to Pierrefort. Mountainbike: Easy level. Time: 1 hour 45 minutes. Between 4 and 5 ruts hidden by vegetation. At 9: Attention, dangerous turn. Marked as foot path in green = and special bike signs triangle/points.

A hike rather long in kilometres and time with a difficult climb between 5 and 6. Near to the FONTANES footbridge spanning the Vezou ruins of an old house and a mineral spring containing carbolic acid. This water had medicinal properties used for the treatment of gastric troubles, passive haemorrhage and digestive problems. D - DEPART: Church in PIERREFORT. Take the direction of ORADOUR (D48). After the Old People’s Home 1 - take the first turning on the left. Continue in the direction of the sports field. 2 - At the reservoir continue to the right, join the FAVEROLLES bridge by a path bordering a small wall. Join the road and take left. 3 - At the way out of the village go right opposite the bread oven. The path leads to COLOMBIER. Hug the road on the left. Follow the D148 for 100 m. 4 - At the first jonction follow the large track between the D148 and the POUGET road. Follow this road for 900 m. 5 - At the crossroads go right and take the path between fences. Continue in the same direction. Pass near the village LE THERON and continue straight on. 6 - Near a cross cross a little road and continue the path with trees and between pastures. Carry on until FONTANES. Cross the village. 7 - Cut across the D65. Enter the field. The path, 100m lower to the left descends rapidly to the mineral fountain. Cross the river Vezou. Climb again to cross the wood. Go round a grazing land to find a path at right. near a stone wall contunue left. 8 - Go right and find a good path which passes near an abreuvoir. View to the Turlande chapel. 9 - You arrive at LABORIE (It is possible to make a detour here left towards the Rocher de Turlande. Views of the Gorges de Truyere and the 13th century chapel, 30mins). At the crossroads take the track to the right. Go 1 km until the road to PAULHENC. 10. Continue towards PAULHENC and at the beginning of the village go right opposite the oratory. Passing the cemetery to the left continue in the same direction. Cut across the D990. Carry on opposite reaching a large agricultural shed. 11 - Carry on opposite between meadows and reach the road. Cut across it and follow a good path on the right which descends to PIERREFORT. 12 - At the first houses take the tar road to the right. Immediately left take the Fonfrede road. 100 m after a large bend branch off in “Impasse des Iris”. Carly on through the slope and steps which leads to the D990. Follow the direction “Town centre” towards the departure point. Mountainbike: Difficult. Between 6 and 7 rapid descent and very difficult climb (pushing). .

A days ramble. Advisable to avoid very hot weather (rare shadow). Along this walk you can discover natural sites, superb viewpoints and heritage of human habitation. D - DEPART: Church in Pierrefort. Follow direction of ORADOUR(D48). Pass in front of the Old people’s Home. 1 - Take the first road to the left. Continue in the direction of the sports field. 2 - At the entrance to the sports area follow a path between stone walls to the right to rejoin Faverolles. the take left. 3 - In the village take the D148 in direction of SAINTE-MARIE, then take right opposite the bakehouse. The path leads to LE COLOMBIER. Follow the D148 to the right for 100m. 4 - Turn right and take a large way which passes in front of an abreuvoir. 900 m later you find a crossroad. 5 - Follow straight on. 6 - Take the sandy path on the left until RISSERGUES. panoramic view to the Cantal mountains. Take left then the first path to the right in direction of ROUVELET BAS. 7 - After the first house take the right path and descend along a fence, then follow until the TREBOUL BRIDGE. 8 - At the Pont de Tréboul take the direction of SAINTE-MARIE. 9 - Follow the D56 to the left towards LA FON DEL SOL (mineral fountain, to the right an old thermal hotel) and SAINTE MARIE. 10 - 100 m after the bridge of FON DEL SOL take the path to the left which climbs to SAINTE MARIE 11 - Visit the church with stained glass windows designed by Jean Cocteau. 12 - . At the exit of the village take the path between the roads to PIERREFORT and ORADOUR. Nice view on the Truyère gorges, the Aubrac plateau and the Cantal mountains. Follow the path until FALITOUX. 13 - Cross FALITOUX and take a track on the right until the D 148. Follow the road right until a bridge. 14 - Before the bridge take a path in direction of LA TERRISSE and then left until CLAVIERES. At the end of the village take the path straight on until the D 48. 15 - Follow the D48 left. 16 - After 1 km take the path to the right and 10 m after to the left to join PIERREFORT. Mountainbike: difficult level. Time: 3 hrs 45 minutes. Between 11 and 14: difficult climb, pushing before Clavières.

Waterfall in the Brezons Valley A 1h30 blue-waymarked circular path with a set of steps leading to a volcanic formation called hoodoes (fairy chemneys). Circular path not suitable for children under 12 years old . Avoid using this path in wet conditions as it can be slippery. There and back to the waterfall for children under 12 years possible (45 minutes, about 600m). Not accessible for strollers. Attention on the path between footbridge 2 and 3 (path slippery).

Church partially Romanesque This chapel was originally the chapel of Brezons castle in the XII century. It was restored in the XV and XVI century. The modillions on its facade are carved with human faces, animals and imaginary beasts. The church is heritage-protected. Open all year. Archeological site of a mountain hamlet dating from the year 1000 For ten years, a team of archaeologists has been exploring the Planèze South of the Plomb du Cantal, uncovering more than 800 archaeological sites and revealing a mountain inhabited since prehistoric times. Panoramic view point on the Truyère gorges ant the Sarrans lake Splendid site overhanging the gorges of Truyère. Site decorated with pink by quartz veins. The rock of Turlande was occupied formerly of a castle in which was born Robert de Turlande, founder of the Abbey of La Chaise Dieu in Haute-Loire. It was destroyed during the Hundred Years War. Only the Romanesque castral chapel remains, classified as a historical monument. The motte castrale, in a semi-circle, leaning on the rocky spur is still present and one can access it, provided one goes through the vegetation, at the foot of the rock.
