The 27th Marché aux Cucurbitacées is back on the 3rd weekend in October in Roussay (Sèvremoine), for a festive, gourmet and solidarity weekend in the colours of autumn! For over a quarter of a century, this unique event has brought together young and old in a warm and friendly atmosphere, while supporting an essential cause: improving the daily lives of the 39 mentally handicapped residents of the Mauges Activity Farm. On the programme, a veritable festival of the senses: 164 varieties of squash - pumpkins, butternuts, coloquintes, giant pumpkins and rare specimens - to admire, taste and take away. Gourmets will love the homemade soups, wood-fired fouées, chips, sandwiches and other local delicacies. The farmers' and crafts market will showcase the skills of local producers and designers, offering authentic, handmade products. But first and foremost, the Cucurbit Market is a community festival run by 300 enthusiastic volunteers. This site comprises blocks of white quartz recognised in 1909 as a Monument and Site of Natural Interest. The site of the Pyrôme rocks used to be inhabited by goblins. According to legend, every year at the stroke of midnight on Christmas Eve, one of the huge blocks of rock would rise up and the goblins would appear offering their treasure, hidden there, to anyone who would agree to give up their place in Paradise.
