In Paris, its length occupies about 13 km, with a depth varying between 3,40 and 5,70 m. Its width varies, it, from 30 to 200 m. The normal restraint of the reach of Paris, that is the height of the surface with regard to the sea level, is 26,72 m2. During the war of 1870, the Parisians, besieged by the Prussians and without communications with the outside, try to receive from the mail locked into metallic balls, said " balls of Moulins ", launched upstream to the capital. None was however taken in in Paris. Drink the water of the Seine The Parisians drank some water of the Seine always, but from the roman time of waters of source of better quality are brought in Paris. We shall note however in 1605 the installation of a pump on the New bridge, said by the Samaritan, who will work until 1813. Also, that of the bridge Notre-Dame worked from 1673 till 1858. The water carriers, the corporation mentioned from 1292, brought at home the water drawn from the Seine or taken in the public fountains, and disappeared only at the end of the XIXth century. Today, the Seine in Paris does not supply any more strictly speaking drinking water to the Parisians, because used waters of surface result from Evry and from Orly, far upstream. Floods The floods of the Seine are an integral part of the history of Paris. It seems good that the first mention of a floods is the one of the Roman emperor Julien during winter 358-359. The columnist Grégoire De Tours told then that of the 582. The floods were often fatal in the bridges of Paris. So, in 1280, a floods of the river take the Big Bridge. In December, 1296, a new floods of an exceptional scale take all the bridges of Paris (which in the time supported houses). The most important floods of the Parisian history, known with a sufficient certainty, are the one of 1658. But the most present historic floods still in the memory of the Parisians are the one of 1910 which lasted nine days, from 20 till 28 January 1910. On January 21st, it achieved certain places about 9,50 m. Numerous postcards showed the devastation, such the accesses of the station Saint-Lazare completely under waters.

The Saint-Martin canal is a canal 4,55 km long. It connects the pond of the Villette and beyond the canal of Ourcq. It is a canal of small template intended, originally, for the drinkable water conveyance in the capital. Inaugurated in 1825, it contains nine locks and two bascule bridges for a total lowering of 25 m.

The island of Bercy is one of the two islands of the lake Daumesnil in the wood from Vincennes to Paris in France. She is connected in the East by a bridge(deck) with the island of Reuilly. Characteristics The island of Bercy was created during the arrangement of this part of the wood of Vincennes and the construction of the lake Daumesnil. She holds her name of that of the district of nearby Bercy. The island of Bercy is an artificial island of a surface about 2 hectares. Boorishly in the shape of bean, she measures 250 m of length in her biggest length for hundred meters wide. She occupies the West of the lake Daumesnil, in the extremity the West of the wood of Vincennes. The island of Reuilly, of shape and similar size, is immediately situated in the East. She is accessible only by a unique bridge to suspension of about twenty meters long, situated in the southeast, which connects her with the island of Reuilly. It is the latter which is connected with the bank of the lake Daumesnil. L'île de Reuilly is one of the two islands of the lake Daumesnil in the wood from Vincennes to Paris in France. It is connected in the East by a bridge with the banks of the lake and on the West in the island of Bercy.Characteristics Its name of its closeness with the district of Reuilly, is an artificial island of a surface about 2,5 hectares. Boorishly in the shape of bean, she measures 300 m of length in her biggest length and at most 100 m of wide. She occupies the center of the lake Daumesnil, in the extremity West of the wood of Vincennes. The island of Bercy, shape and similar size, is immediately situated on the West.The island was created during the arrangement of this part of the wood of Vincennes and the construction of the lake Daumesnil. She is connected with the southeast bank of the lake by a small bridge with suspension of about twenty meters long. On the West, the second similar bridge connects her with the island of Bercy. A path allows to make the tour of the island. The Château de Vincennes is a must see in the Paris region. Its history began in the 12th century, when Louis VII decided to build a hunting lodge in the forest of Vincennes. It was under Louis IX that the Château officially became a royal residence. In the 14th century, the Château assumed the appearance we know today: King Charles V decided to build a vast wall, towers and an over 50-metre tall keep, today considered to be the tallest medieval fortified building in Europe. He also started construction work on the Sainte-Chapelle in 1379, which was not completed until 1552 under the reign of Henri II. In the 17th century, the architect Le Vau built the King and Queen pavilions, in a classic style, for the young Louis XIV, his mother and Cardinal Mazarin. When Versailles was chosen for the court in 1682, Vincennes no longer had a role as a royal residence. The keep, a prison since the 16th century, then gained in importance and housed famous prisoners such as Diderot, Latude, Mirabeau and the Marquis de Sade in the 18th century. Various factories (porcelain, earthenware, weapons) succeeded one another within the building which was deteriorating more and more, until the Paris arsenal was installed there in 1796. This saved the château from ruin, but meant that the site was modified: the Saint-Louis manor disappeared, the towers were levelled, casemates were constructed... It then became one of the largest military garrisons in the Paris region. Listed as an historic monument in 1913, the post-war château retains its dual purpose. The Ministry of Culture ensures the management of the Sainte-Chapelle and the Keep, through the Centre des Monuments Nationaux. These two areas are open to the public. The Ministry of Defence manages the other areas in the Château, including the libraries and archives, which are accessible to the public, through the Historique de la Défense service.
