A walk “by stone and wood”, through time, past ancient vestiges and ancestral know-how. Go uphill on the road and past Meyrannes school. At the bridge over Montagnac gully, continue straight ahead, then fork right. A path starts between the houses at the top of the village. A steep path leads you quickly to Montgrillet, which it enters through an olive grove. Go past the disused quarry above a large lime-kiln. Your footpath climbs on the right to a  dry-stone hut. Continue going uphill to Montgrillet on the same path between two walls, which cuts through an oak grove. Turn left towards La Font-de-Bourboul on a path that is paved to begin with. Retrace your steps, walk alongside the Bourboul brook and then climb the wooden steps. Go uphill and turn right onto your original outbound path.

A short walk to do with the family starting from the hamlet of Chadouillet in the town of Saint-André-de-Cruzières. P – From the Place du Planet, go to the signpost for Chadouillet. Chadouillet - Follow Les Courpatières 1,3 km ().Take the first left on the Chanisse path. Continue on the small tarmac road that becomes a track. Cross the bridge and follow the path bordered by low walls. Les Courpatières - Follow Carissoules 0,5km. Take the path on the right, then on the left to go down through the oak trees towards the Cotepatière resurgence. When you reach the river bed, follow it for a few metres on the left, then go up a path on the right. Carissoules - Follow Chadouillet 0,9km. Turn right onto the path from which you can see the bell tower of Saint-André-de-Cruzières, and return to the starting point

Immerse yourself in the lower Cévennes, between sweet-chestnut groves and maquis scrubland, as you explore the Galeizon valley and the plains of Languedoc. From the car park, go downhill on the road. A few metres after the first bend, turn left and go downhill on a path to reach the road to Peyraube. At the reservoir, go downhill on the road and take the track on the left before entering Peyraube. Continue on this track and pass in front of Les Pièces. Before Les Combes, at the sign for Le Flaquier, take the path on the left towards Les Cabassettes. Go uphill into the chestnut grove, walk in front of Le Flaquier to the second ruin and continue on the path to join up with a track. Turn left onto this track to reach the D 632 road. Turn left onto the road and continue to its crossroads with the D 32. Turn right onto the D 32 for 400 m, then take the path on the left to climb to the Col des Cabassettes pass. At the pass, take the path on the left that leads you through the Roc Troué (notched rock), past the dolmen of the same name and to the D 32. Take the lane towards Peyraube to return to the car park.

You can see the Divols and Abrits dolmens on this circuit that’s accessible for the whole family. P – From the car park, head towards the sign Les Mourgues. Les Mourgues - Follow Coste de Boucher () 1,6 km. Coste de Boucher - Follow Les Divols 1,1 km. Les Divols - Follow Les Mourgues 1,4 km.

This trail gives you access to panoramic viewpoints on its mountain ridges, as you follow in the footsteps of the men and women who left their imprint on the schist. A few clarifications:• As you leave the car park, turn right and continue on the road for 150 metres, then go left towards Mas de la Tourette / La Borie.• After Marker 4, take the path that goes uphill on the right. Be careful, some sections are slippery.• At the road, continue left to the hamlet. Then take the path on the right. • At the junction of paths, continue right. • Turn right towards the castle (there-and-back) to reach Markers 6, 7, 8.• Return to the car park on the path.   

The walk takes you to the centre of the old village using the former Royal road, which was once the only track from Chamborigaud to Saint German-de-Calberte. This walk has eleven numbered information panels.

The enchanting Bois de Païolive is one of the Ardeche’s strangest curiosities. This ancient oak forest of exceptional heritage value with its landscape and biodiversity is a natural labyrinth.  P – From Les Clairières car park, follow the green signs.     Les Clairières car park - Follow the sign to Circuit de la Vierge 0,1 km.

This beautiful hike takes you on the interpretive path of Naves, a typical village, to discover landscapes and the link between geological and human history. From the cemetery parking lot, the path starts on the right and climbs towards the Serre du Cocu (cuckold ridge) where a first stop will allow you to enjoy the Naves Cirques, and where you will find the first interpretive board about Jurassic limestone and marl. Continue on the path up to the reservoir above the cemetery. A new board is waiting for you. Continue on the path along the side of the Serre du Cocu. (new board on the Serre de Barre) up to a pass from which the view on the Chassezac Valley is stunning. At the crossways, turn right up to the Alauzas road where you will find stops 5 and 6, presenting the Orcières Fault and a stratigraphic cross-section. Follow the tarmacked road on your left up to the hamlet. On your way, admire the gorgeous chesnut grove (stop 7). At the hamlet, take the path on your left. Carry on straight ahead. Stop 8 is about terraces and water management on the slope. The path goes downhill towards Naves, first through a chesnut grove, then in a coniferous undergrowth. Lower, those plants give way to maquis (stop 9). After stop 10, devoted to karst, the path goes out of the woods onto an overhang above the Bourdaric Brook (be very cautious!). Continue leisurely your way down towards Naves (stop 11), while enjoying the sights on the village and Southern Ardèche. Take some time to tour Naves, a pleasant typical village with authentic narrow streets, then take the tarmacked road again down to the cemetery parking lot, your starting point.

The Concluses are long natural gorges and rocky corridors carved out over time by the Aiguillon river. Discover an exceptional panorama and ecosystem. Departure from Lussan from the parking lot at the foot of the village. Head for "Les Concluses" on the D259, following the "Le Vallen" hiking sign for 1.3 km. Then take the right-hand path for 1.6km towards the Prade sign. Turn right and follow the signs for Les Concluses for 2.2km. Turn left and follow the Concluses interpretation trail, which will take you to the viewpoint where you can observe the panorama. Return to Lussan by turning back. From the Concluses parking lot, follow the "l'Espesviel" sign for 1.3km. Go straight on towards "la Grande Croisière" for 300m, then join "la Clapeyrolle" via the D643 for 600m. Turn right to follow "Lac de Mercouire" for 1.4km. Turn left, then right onto the D143 for 1.4km. Take the track on the left to join the "Gammeile" sign, then turn right to take the D143 back up to the village parking lot. Do not venture into the Aiguillon riverbed during periods of high water, thunderstorms or from January 15 to June 30. Some sections are more strenuous than others, requiring you to negotiate rocks. Some slippery passages in wet weather on the lower section.

It is a collection narrow cobbled streets that lead to village square with an 11th century church and views across the typical terrain of the southern Ardèche. Situated between two lanes, the house can be accessed by the lower road for the Blanche de Paysac and the Pitcholine rooms. From the upper road, via a lovely vaulted ceiling, you can access the Rougette and the Frantoio rooms. A particular feature is a beautiful stone spiral staircase that serves the family suite and the dining room. In the central part of the house is the Library lounge and Wellness area. At this level, under a high canopy, there is a fountain and access to all parts of the house. Then cross a small stone bridge that spans the lane, to gain access to the pool and gardens. As soon as you cross this little bridge, you will fall under the charm of this green haven of peace. You will first encounter a small covered seating area where you can to sit quietly enjoy a drink, read or just contemplate life – regardless of the vagaries of the weather. Next is a lovely arbour offering protection from the sun when the shade of the centuries-old mulberry trees is insufficient. Breakfast and dinner served here. A little further on there is the boulodrome where you can test your skills at pétanque. The best teams can compete to win an appetizer on the House! A pool of 12 x 5 m will allow you to do a few laps, relax and freshen up after your muscles have been stretched by one or the other sports activities offered in the surrounding area. For a quieter time, you can wander through the rest of the garden where over 500 carefully chosen plants delight the senses. Or merely sit a while under an olive tree and enjoy the views across the roofs of the old village to the distant horizons.

For 4 generations now, this family campsite welcomes you in the heart of the Cevennes between Anduze and Saint Jean du Gard, in the Mialet valley. It is located along the river and has its own private beach. The establishment located at the edge of the Cevennes National Park offers a wide range of activities for the whole family. It has a direct access to the river with a private beach, an aquatic complex of more than 600m² with a swimming pool of 250 m², a heated swimming pool with 4 slides including a kamikaze, an aqualudic space of 250 m² for the youngest with many water games and a new slide with sensation, the Tobbo-jump of 11m high. As for other activities, you will find a multi-sports field, an 18-hole mini golf course, a fitness area, a bowling alley with 12 courts, a games library and a children's playground accessible from the opening of the campsite. Activities for children from 3 to 5 years old and 6 to 10 years old, for teenagers from 11 to 14 years old and 15 to 18 years old as well as sports and leisure activities and big family games are organized in July and August, 6 days a week in our air-conditioned yurt. In high season, evening shows, karaoke, open-air cinema, dancing, themed evenings and bingo are organized. You will also find a bar-restaurant-ice-cream parlour with fresh and local products and a mini-market with newspapers and bread baked on the spot every day. In high season, a pizzeria and a straw hut are present. It is also the ideal starting point for numerous hikes or bike rides, in the mountains or along the Gardon river to discover the Cevennes and the Camisards valley. La Bambouseraie is a unique exotic garden in Europe that will take you on a journey through the five continents. It offers an experience at the heart of plants, where preserving biodiversity is a daily concern. Created in 1856 by Eugène Mazel, La Bambouseraie is classified as one of the most beautiful gardens in France. Here you'll find exceptional specimens of over a thousand varieties. So don't wait any longer and come and admire all kinds of bamboos, as well as Japanese maples, camellias, Ginkgos biloba and hundred-year-old giant Sequoias, flowers... The garden center, bamboo store and bamboo nack are open to the public. Throughout the year, La Bambouseraie organizes nature events. See the agenda on the website. New since 2023: "the quest for the Aleya flower". A treasure hunt for families and friends to discover the Bambouseraie in a different way. It's a fun way to test your powers of observation and deduction. Visitors will learn all about the issues involved in preserving nature in the park.

Au pied des Cévennes, les Jardins Ethnobotaniques de la Gardie mettent en scène une partie du patrimoine local, en lien avec les plantes sauvages et cultivées. Entouré de nature, découvrez les variétés du Verger mémoire, la parcelle à céréales anciennes, le potager d'époque médiévale, le Jardin médicinal des Simples ainsi que le verger fruitier. A proximité de la serre bioclimatique, visitez le jardin botanique méditerranéen, la reconstitution d'un rucher. Les Jardins Ethnobotaniques présentent également les activités humaines sur le mazet vigneron et son four à pain, le site minier métallifère et l'espace Charbonnière. Plus qu'un espace de découverte, les Jardins offrent des zones de détente aux abords de la source de la Gardie et des tables de pique-nique à l'ombre de grands chênes. Probablement partagerez vous les anecdotes des bénévoles de l'association ARC'Avène qui entretiennent les Jardins depuis plus de 20 ans.

Le Montgrillet is the hillock above the village. The population of Meyrannes used to be overwhelmingly farmers, who lived on what they grew. Le Montgrillet is exposed to the sun and close to the village, and was the ideal spot for farming. Evidence for this can be seen all along the path. The grove of olive trees above the path indicates one of the crops once grown in Meyrannes, along with grapes and mulberry trees (for leaves to feed to silkworms). (B. Mathieu)  

This structure was built using dry-stoning techniques (i.e. without binder) and was once used by the farmer to store his harvest, tidy away his tools or take shelter when a storm about to burst did not leave him enough time to return home. The builder chose to make his hut back onto a terrace, so as to economise on one wall and save space. On this sloping land, efficiency is of the essence: the farmer has to make the most of every cultivatable square metre. Terrace walls built from stones serve to create horizontal plots, remove stones from the land and prevent erosion. (B. Mathieu)

Nicknamed the Vessel of the Cevennes because of its spectacular stone prow and unique in Europe. True gateway to the High Cevennes at the foot of Mont Lozère, it is located on the outskirts of the Cevennes National Park, which was declared a World Heritage Site in June 2011 and defies more than 10 centuries of history. Built in the 11th century to protect the Regordane Way (today's GR 700), the castle of Portes is the marriage of a medieval fortress and a Renaissance bastion. Remarkable for its rich history and its atypical architecture, unique in Europe, it is classified as a historical monument. The spur which forms an angle of 42° constitutes its originality and earns it the nickname of "vessel of the Cevennes". It offers an unobstructed view at 32 meters high on the surrounding valleys and many possibilities of hiking in the surroundings.

The repeated passage of flocks of sheep over the millennia – first wild, then domesticated – has dragged a path to this summit. Under the impetus of the monks of Cendras, humans enlarged the path by hand to make it easier to use by convoys of saddled mules and by sheep. In 1689, the King's Intendant in Languedoc, Monsieur de Basville, implemented a royal order to organise the road network in the Cevennes in such a way that canons could be pulled along it and enable troops to hunt down Protestant rebels more easily. […] The dry-stone retaining walls and especially the giant breach cut into the rock that gives it its name – Roc Troué or Notched Rock – showcase the colossal efforts of our ancestors. The track is now in such a bad state that it is hard to imagine it was ever suitable for carts! (B. Mathieu)

Complexes of dolmens were built 4,000 years ago; the ones that collapsed were re-used up to the 6th century BC to deposit the ashes of the deceased and a few last offerings [dolmens furent bâtis il y a 4 000 ans puis effondrés et re-employés DONC, on les a effondres expres avant de les re-utiliser? Un peu bizarre comme formulation/idee ? Revoir la V.O.)]. Some seem to have been more elaborate, such as this one: a round base supports a dolmen built like a small house with a rock table for a “roof”. In fact, it is not certain that, in the Cevennes, prehistoric tombs were covered in this way. Archaeological excavations have uncovered pottery shards, bronze bracelets, hewn flints, a few cremation deposits or, in some cases, nothing at all! (B. Mathieu)

Museum of Fine Arts and Archaeology. Archaeological pieces from the Middle Paleolithic to the Bronze Age and the Iron Age are on display. There is also a collection of paintings from the 16th century. Founded in 1889 and installed in the Hôtel de Pellerin since 1967, the Musée du Colombier presents collections covering a vast period from prehistory to 20th century art. Important donations of paintings and sculptures in the 19th and early 20th centuries have enabled the museum to build up a collection of works of great importance, including the Triptych of the Holy Trinity by Jean Bellegambe and two allegories by Pieter Brueghel de Velours. In the second half of the 20th century, the archaeological collections were considerably expanded, until today they constitute a remarkable collection, testimony to the human occupation of the Alès region from prehistoric times to the medieval period. The Dovecote Museum is nestled in a beautiful 18th century mansion, with a French garden decorated with a beautiful rock garden.

Pierre André Benoit (PAB), printer, poet, sculptor and draughtsman, donated his collection of modern art to the city of Alès to create the museum that bears his name. Exceptional collection of modern and contemporary art, donated by the publisher Pierre André Benoit: paintings, drawings and engravings by Aleschinsky, Braque, Picasso, Miró. The works are presented in the old castle of Rochebelle. The museum also houses 450 books by PAB combining poetry and paintings in an exceptional collection unique in France.

The property of almost 1 hectare makes you feel at home, and features a beautiful 10x5m infinity pool, surrounded by a lovely terrace in a quiet, secluded setting, with a breathtaking view over the plain, Mont Ventoux, the Ardèche gorges, the Vercors and sometimes even the Alps. If you'd like to stretch your knees after basking in the sun, you can enjoy our pétanque court or take the GR path up to the small hamlet of Brahic or down to Les Vans.

In the fragrant peace and quiet of the Ardèche garrigue, you'll be welcomed in an old silkworm nursery, restored and enlarged to provide visitors with relaxation and comfort, right in the heart of the Bois de Païolive, a grandiose and mysterious setting. Situated 5 kms from the town of Les Vans, not far from the Chassezac Gorges, the Ermitage St Eugène and the picturesque villages of Banne and Naves, Mas de l'Espaïre offers peace and conviviality in one of its 29 rooms. Our outdoor swimming pool is heated from mid-April to early October.

Located on a rocky spur, Naves is a quiet medieval village that is officially designated as a “Village de Caractère”. Naves has maintained its atmosphere into the 21st century thanks to the sympathetic restoration of the properties by the residents. It is a collection narrow cobbled streets that lead to village square with an 11th century church and views across the typical terrain of the southern Ardèche. Situated between two lanes, the house can be accessed by the lower road for the Blanche de Paysac and the Pitcholine rooms. From the upper road, via a lovely vaulted ceiling, you can access the Rougette and the Frantoio rooms. A particular feature is a beautiful stone spiral staircase that serves the family suite and the dining room. In the central part of the house is the Library lounge and Wellness area. At this level, under a high canopy, there is a fountain and access to all parts of the house. Then cross a small stone bridge that spans the lane, to gain access to the pool and gardens. As soon as you cross this little bridge, you will fall under the charm of this green haven of peace. You will first encounter a small covered seating area where you can to sit quietly enjoy a drink, read or just contemplate life – regardless of the vagaries of the weather. Next is a lovely arbour offering protection from the sun when the shade of the centuries-old mulberry trees is insufficient. Breakfast and dinner served here. A little further on there is the boulodrome where you can test your skills at pétanque. The best teams can compete to win an appetizer on the House! A pool of 12 x 5 m will allow you to do a few laps, relax and freshen up after your muscles have been stretched by one or the other sports activities offered in the surrounding area. For a quieter time, you can wander through the rest of the garden where over 500 carefully chosen plants delight the senses. Or merely sit a while under an olive tree and enjoy the views across the roofs of the old village to the distant horizons.

The Ardèche Mazet-Plage campsite is located at the entrance of the Bois Païolive in the commune of Casteljau in Ardèche and on the edge of the Chassezac with magnificent gorges ideal for climbing and canoeing. There are a host of things to do in Southern Ardèche during your holidays. Whatever you prefer – lazing around, tanning beside the river Chassezac – or active outings exploring the surroundings on the many paths, on foot or mountain bike, canoeing, climbing or canyoning, the Ardèche has something for everyone and will leave you with lasting memories. Here nature rules!!! And there are so many typical Ardèche villages which have kept their beautiful authentic architecture – a treat for the eyes – to visit, as well as the local markets to sample and buy regional produce – a treat for the taste buds! At the camp-site there is a grocery shop in peak season, where you will find all the basics for meals as well as bread and pastries. We also have a pay-to-use clothes washing machine.
