After skirting the Rhône-Sète canal between Aigues-Mortes and Le Grau du Roi, you're now off to the Mediterranean beaches, resorts and entertainment. ViaRhôna runs through the "20th century heritage" pyramids of La Grande Motte, then along the lido between sea and salt ponds, to the foot of the Palavas-les-Flots lighthouse, close to the city of Montpellier. So grab your towels and swimsuits!

ViaRhôna, from Saint-Gilles to Aigues-Mortes. Between Saint-Gilles and Gallician, the provisional itinerary enters the Camargue Gardoise Grand Site de France and takes you to the Centre du Scamandre. At Gallician, near the marina, you join the greenway that takes you through the Camargue Gardoise and its exceptional flora and fauna. You'll follow the old towpaths of the Rhône-Sète canal through the marshes before reaching Aigues-Mortes, a fortified town surrounded by marshes, vineyards and salt marshes. Don't miss the view from the Tour Carbonnière to better understand this extraordinary landscape. From Gallician, two loops linked to the Vauvert - Gallician greenway will enable you to discover the surrounding countryside between vineyards, marshes and reeds.

A circuit in the heart of the villages and hamlets of Camargue, close to one of the last marshy islets located in agricultural zone. From the place of the primary school of Albaron, go to the right on the D37 for 1 km, towards Saliers. Turn left towards the Maison du riz and Mas de la Vigne on the Figares road for 9 km. 1 - At the junction of the D572, turn left towards the bridge then cross the Petit Rhône. Enter the Gard department. Continue for 400 m. Turn right towards the D179 towards Fourques. Cross the railway and then take the path on the left. Continue for 1.5 km and cross the canal. Recover avenue Emile Cazelles right, pass the bullring of Saint-Gilles. 2 - At the intersection with Chanzy Boulevard, turn left. Cross the Canal du Rhône at Sète. Continue on the D6572, the road of Arles on 1.5 km. Cross the Petit Rhône again. Leave on the left the Hotel de Cabanettes then turn to the right on the D37 towards Saliers and Albaron then continue for 1 km. 3 - After the Saliérène manade, take the road on the left. Pass through the Saliers hamlet and turn left after the church. Retrieve the D37 on the right, then join point 1. In point 1, join the start of the ride by the same route taken one way.

Take the dike and follow the Petit-Rhône along the water, one of the two arms of the Rhône From the rest area of ??Paty-de-la-Trinité, head towards the Petit-Rhône and take the dike on the left which runs along the Petit-Rhône for 12 km. 1 - At the Sylvéréal Bridge, make a U-turn to return to the rest area of ??Paty-de-la-Trinité.

This trail offers a real presentation of the natural environments of the Camargue related to water, you will travel in unique landscapes ! With your back to the Camargue Museum, start the ride on the left. Walk along the Rousty canal for more than 1 km. 1 - Go to the right and continue for 600 m. 2 - at the intersection of the two paths, turn to the left. 3 - Turn left at the footbridge to discover the reed bed. Walk the bridge to the point of view and retrace your steps. In point 3, turn left to reach the observatory. Then retrace your steps and in point 2 continue straight. 4 - At the intersection of the two paths, follow the path on the right and then return to the Camargue Museum.

With endless ponds, fishermen and birds, freshwater marshes and high marshes marked by salt. From the Tourism Office, on the Van Gogh avenue, go through the village towards the Cacharel road (D85A) for 4 km. 1- Before the Mas de Cacharel, take the dirt road on the right for 11 km.2- At the Domaine de Méjannes, take the trail in the opposite direction and return to the starting point.

Admire the singular landscapes of the Camargue, born from the marriage of land and water. Back to the Tourist Office, head left on Van Gogh Avenue, towards Aigues-Mortes. Continue straight for 6 km and follow the Grau d'Orgon and the Petit-Rhône, on the D38. 1 - Turn left on the D85 and take the Sauvage ferry (information about ferry times at the Tourist Office). Continue on the D85 towards Aigues-Mortes and cross the small bridge that spans the Peccais Canal at Sylvéréal. 2 - At the intersection of the D58, turn right and continue for 350 m towards Arles. Take the bridge over the Petit-Rhône. 3- Do not miss turning right towards S33. Walk 2 km and reach the Astouin hamlet. Leave on the left the Astouin Castle estate. 4 - Take a right on the intersection with the D38. Go forward for 500 m. Turn left and continue on the D38b towards Pioch-Badet. VARIANT: a shorter variant is possible by going straight on towards the Cabanes de Cambon to join the Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. 5 - Turn left, on the D570, towards Pioch-Badet and the Cacharel road. Follow Pioch-Badet, cross the village and take the road to Cacharel Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer and return to the starting point by the D85A, along the several ponds that you will see on your left for 10 km.

Walk along the banks of the Petit-Rhône to observe the exceptional environment of this stream! Back to the Tourist Office, head left on Van Gogh Avenue, towards Aigues-Mortes. Continue straight for 6 km and follow the Grau d'Orgon and the Petit-Rhône, on the D38. 1 - Turn left on the D85 and take the Sauvage ferry (information about ferry times at the Tourist Office). Continue on the D85 towards Aigues-Mortes and cross the small bridge that spans the Peccais Canal at Sylvéréal. 2 - At the intersection of the D58, turn right and continue for 350 m towards Arles. Leave on the left the Astouin Castle estate. 4 - At the intersection with the D38, go to the right and continue the D38 for more than 3,5 km. 5 - Take the D38A, turn left and continue straight until you reach the D570.6- At the intersection with the D570, turn right and continue for about 4.5 km. 7 - After the Le Boumian hotel, take the small dirt road on the left, parallel to the D570. Continue straight for about 1.5 km. 8 - Turn left before the roubine (stream). Continue the path that runs along the roubine. Pass the small bridge and continue to the right. Continue straight and turn right on the road to Cacharel and cross the village to regain the starting point of the circuit, the Tourist Office of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer.

Real heart of the delta, discover the diversity of the Camargue, both in terms of landscapes and fauna and flora ... Back to the Tourist Office on Van Gogh Avenue, head right. At the roundabout, take the second exit and cross the village towards the Cacharel road for 4 km. 1 - Around the small parking, before the Cacharel farmhouse, take the track of the Five Gorges (said Méjanes) on the right. Continue for 11 km to the Méjanes estate. 2 - After the Méjanes estate, at the sign "give way", go right on the D37 and continue for 8 km. Go along the Vaccarès pond. Pass in front of the observation point of Mas Neuf Vaccarès (set up by the Camargue Regional Nature Park). After the observatory, continue towards Arles and Salin-de-Giraud. 3 - At the intersection of Villeneuve and the snack bar Les Salicornes, turn right on the C134 "Fiélouse" towards La Capelière. Cycle there for 14.5 km. Go along the pond Pass in front of La Capelière, Mas de Fiélouse, then Salin-de-Badon. 4 - Continue straight towards the dike to the sea. Continue on the trail to the Flamingo Observatory. 5 - At the observatory, turn right and take the dike to the sea towards the Gacholle lighthouse (trail accessible only on foot and by bike). Enter the Camargue National Nature Reserve. Pass the lighthouse and continue. Continue on the dike to the sea until Pertuis de Rousty. At Pertuis, continue straight to the village of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer which is located 6 km from there.

Once a popular destination for pilgrims from all over the world, the monument is now listed as a World Heritage Site as part of the "Pilgrim's Way to Santiago de Compostela in France" series. Saint-Gilles, gateway to the Camargue, is located on the Chemin de Saint-Jacques de Compostelle, this is the first step on the way to Arles. Since 1998, the abbey church of Saint-Gilles is a UNESCO World Heritage Site under the Chemins de Saint-Jacques de Compostelle. The old medieval center confirms the rich heritage of Saint-Gilles. Because of its geographical position, between the hillsides of Costières and Camargue, the landscapes that surround the city are changing.

In the greater Camargue, the marais de Saliers represent one of the main zones of marshes and ponds soft or brackish. This Camargue sector fluvio-lacustrine includes a mosaic of natural habitats such as reed beds, typhids, wet meadows, saladella lawns, but also sansouïres and agricultural areas, mainly rice paddies. The cattle industry is also well represented. Les marais de Saliers formerly occupied a large part of the territory.

The Camargue was classified as a Biosphere Reserve in 1977. Between these folds still partly wooded, you will find low lands occupied by lagoons lined with salt steppes, reed marshes and ponds. The agricultural lands are composed of wet meadows and grazers dedicated to the grazing of bulls and horses, old marshes converted into rice paddies of lagoons designed for the exploitation of salt and vegetable crops and viticulture on the dunes.

Lauricet wood is one of the rare wooded areas of the Camargue. The remaining woods are generally along the river, which provides them with the fresh water they need. These woods constitute important habitats for local fauna.

The Camargue environment is strongly marked by salt and only the banks of the river and its alluvial ridges escape this influence. These protective forests are called riparian forests. Sylvéréal means "royal forest" because there was a pine forest between Sylvéréal and Albaron. The Sylvéréal Bridge connects the Petit and Grande Camargue, between Gard and Bouches-du-Rhône. Crossing the Petit-Rhône was done through floating boats linked to each other until the construction of a bridge that was destroyed during the Second World War, a ferry then ensured the relay between the two departments until the construction of the current bridge in 1956.

On the edge of the Vaccarès pond nature reserve, the Domaine de Méjanes offers a privileged approach to the Camargue and its traditions, while respecting the environment. The domain of Méjanes is an old fortified residence of the Templars of the 13th century, part of the buildings of which date from the 11th century. Acquired by Paul Ricard in 1939, the Domaine is now an agricultural and tourist property which allows you to discover all the riches of the Camargue natural environment, on foot, on horseback, by mountain bike or with the little train. If the village only had its church and a few houses in the 19th century, it is at the center of a territory that includes the most beautiful farmhouses in the Camargue: the painted farmhouse, the Cazeau tower farmhouse. From the ruins of the buildings of this former royal saltworks, easily accessible, but with authorization, you can access magnificent discovery trails on 4.5 kilometers of hiking trails.
