Adventure Awaits from Vacansoleil at Ales, Gard

Immerse yourself in the lower Cévennes, between sweet-chestnut groves and maquis scrubland, as you explore the Galeizon valley and the plains of Languedoc. From the car park, go downhill on the road. A few metres after the first bend, turn left and go downhill on a path to reach the road to Peyraube. At the reservoir, go downhill on the road and take the track on the left before entering Peyraube. Continue on this track and pass in front of Les Pièces. Before Les Combes, at the sign for Le Flaquier, take the path on the left towards Les Cabassettes. Go uphill into the chestnut grove, walk in front of Le Flaquier to the second ruin and continue on the path to join up with a track. Turn left onto this track to reach the D 632 road. Turn left onto the road and continue to its crossroads with the D 32. Turn right onto the D 32 for 400 m, then take the path on the left to climb to the Col des Cabassettes pass. At the pass, take the path on the left that leads you through the Roc Troué (notched rock), past the dolmen of the same name and to the D 32. Take the lane towards Peyraube to return to the car park.

Immerse yourself in a history as you walk from the banks of the river Gardon to Mas Soubeyran, a museum of French Protestantism. You will be able to enjoy far-reaching views onto the Puechs, Mont Aigoual, Mont Liron and, on clear days, even the Alps. From the car park, turn right onto the D 50, cross the Pont des Camisards bridge and turn left towards Le Travès / Paussan. Then head for Mas Soubeyran via La Roquette. At Mas Soubeyran, take the path on the right to reach La Baumelle gully, which leads to the mas (farm) of the same name. Walk past the mas on its right and continue on the track to join up with the road. Turn right onto the road and after 250 m turn left on a path towards La Rouvière. At La Rouvière, turn left onto a fire road (DFCI) and take a path on the left that goes downhill into Roquefeuille gully. Cross the bridge, take the road on the left and then a small path on the right that will lead you back to Mialet.

A walk “by stone and wood”, through time, past ancient vestiges and ancestral know-how. Go uphill on the road and past Meyrannes school. At the bridge over Montagnac gully, continue straight ahead, then fork right. A path starts between the houses at the top of the village. A steep path leads you quickly to Montgrillet, which it enters through an olive grove. Go past the disused quarry above a large lime-kiln. Your footpath climbs on the right to a  dry-stone hut. Continue going uphill to Montgrillet on the same path between two walls, which cuts through an oak grove. Turn left towards La Font-de-Bourboul on a path that is paved to begin with. Retrace your steps, walk alongside the Bourboul brook and then climb the wooden steps. Go uphill and turn right onto your original outbound path.

The walk takes you to the centre of the old village using the former Royal road, which was once the only track from Chamborigaud to Saint German-de-Calberte. This walk has eleven numbered information panels.

The Concluses are long natural gorges and rocky corridors carved out over time by the Aiguillon river. Discover an exceptional panorama and ecosystem. Departure from Lussan from the parking lot at the foot of the village. Head for "Les Concluses" on the D259, following the "Le Vallen" hiking sign for 1.3 km. Then take the right-hand path for 1.6km towards the Prade sign. Turn right and follow the signs for Les Concluses for 2.2km. Turn left and follow the Concluses interpretation trail, which will take you to the viewpoint where you can observe the panorama. Return to Lussan by turning back. From the Concluses parking lot, follow the "l'Espesviel" sign for 1.3km. Go straight on towards "la Grande Croisière" for 300m, then join "la Clapeyrolle" via the D643 for 600m. Turn right to follow "Lac de Mercouire" for 1.4km. Turn left, then right onto the D143 for 1.4km. Take the track on the left to join the "Gammeile" sign, then turn right to take the D143 back up to the village parking lot. Do not venture into the Aiguillon riverbed during periods of high water, thunderstorms or from January 15 to June 30. Some sections are more strenuous than others, requiring you to negotiate rocks. Some slippery passages in wet weather on the lower section.

Puis bifurquez à gauche en passant par les hameaux Les Cabrols et Les Horts. Suivre ensuite la direction de Soudorgues par une belle montée en lacets. A Soudorgues, le plus dur est fait, il ne vous reste qu’à vous laissez glisser jusqu’à La Coste, et descendre par une route un peu "cabossée" en direction de Lasalle. Soyez vigilants. A la belle saison, une pause agréable dans la rivière "La Salindrenque" s'impose. The Dovecote Museum is nestled in a beautiful 18th century mansion, with a French garden decorated with a beautiful rock garden.

Pierre André Benoit (PAB), printer, poet, sculptor and draughtsman, donated his collection of modern art to the city of Alès to create the museum that bears his name. Exceptional collection of modern and contemporary art, donated by the publisher Pierre André Benoit: paintings, drawings and engravings by Aleschinsky, Braque, Picasso, Miró. The works are presented in the old castle of Rochebelle. The museum also houses 450 books by PAB combining poetry and paintings in an exceptional collection unique in France.

People under 50 years old will find themselves in a world that will seem far away, in the middle of writing supports and objects that allowed to transmit knowledge, writings, ideas replaced by a tool as impersonal as the computer. For the others, nostalgia for the past will invade you and a multitude of memories will rush into your head bringing back good or bad moments of your childhood. Original museum on 450 m²: collections of writing objects, history and manufacturing techniques of all writing supports (papyrus, parchment, various), reconstitution of a classroom of 1920. The visit ends with a workshop allowing to practice with all the writing instruments. Courses in straw marquetry, Western, Japanese, Hebrew and Arabic calligraphy are scheduled throughout the year. Regular courses in illumination and art framing are held every month. The museum permanently displays one or more temporary exhibitions in its vaulted rooms. Ideal place for a walk, games for children and tree houses/ nets, it is also a place where many animations take place like the Nuit Douce (musical evening) or the Nuit des étoiles. This park dates back to 1782 when Jacques Destremx (elected mayor of the commune in 1869 and 1888) bought the three properties of the Marquis de Montmoirac, also lord of Montèze and Saint-Christol. From inheritance to marriage and life annuity, the Trouchaud couple (mayor of Saint-Christol-lez-Alès in 1932) settled down and became passionate about Rouret by creating an English garden, which over time became a natural park of Mediterranean type. In 1987, the municipality bought the 14-hectare estate, the park, but also the manor house, and developments were made around it: a stadium, a fitness trail, a botanical trail, a CAT, and a leisure center nearby. Many trees were planted there: cedars, maples, magnolia, red oak and a playground for children aged 1 to 6 years was built. This place is now very appreciated for its calm. An ideal place for a stroll, it is also a place where many events take place such as the Nuit Douce (musical evening) or the Nuit des étoiles.

Entouré de nature, découvrez les variétés du Verger mémoire, la parcelle à céréales anciennes, le potager d'époque médiévale, le Jardin médicinal des Simples ainsi que le verger fruitier. A proximité de la serre bioclimatique, visitez le jardin botanique méditerranéen, la reconstitution d'un rucher. Les Jardins Ethnobotaniques présentent également les activités humaines sur le mazet vigneron et son four à pain, le site minier métallifère et l'espace Charbonnière. Plus qu'un espace de découverte, les Jardins offrent des zones de détente aux abords de la source de la Gardie et des tables de pique-nique à l'ombre de grands chênes. Probablement partagerez vous les anecdotes des bénévoles de l'association ARC'Avène qui entretiennent les Jardins depuis plus de 20 ans.
