Essential to the village life the fountains were supplied by drainage water from the Terre-Rouge/La Planquette plateau. They are called “griffouls”. The first fountain was built in 1344 in the Bourguet area into a granite block. Some ancient consuls and bishops faces are sculpted on it. The fountain was used until the beginning of the 20th century.

Tour approachable for everybody around the hamlet of Mergieux. However some parts have a difference in height quite important. This tour do not start from Najac, it is accessible by car or from the tours n°6 and n°8. The main part of this tour is in the forest. Some conifers were planted for the forestry development but the broad-leaved trees constituted the forest cover until the early 20th century. The forests around Mergieux holiday village are use by the ONF (Forestry Commission).

This 232km trail offers hikers a formidable walk through Tarn’s patchwork landscapes. This Grande Randonnée circuit, which covers a distance of approximately 232 kilometres, is a wonderful getaway to discover all the splendours that characterise the Tarn department. All sorts of natural and heritage landscapes will be offered to your delighted and amazed eyes. We can mention the Causses in the north-west of the department, the medieval bastides, the plain of the Tarn with the isthmus of Ambialet, the granite plateau of Sidobre as well as the Montagne Noire in the south... Family circuit.

Starting from Salles sur Cérou, this tour takes you to Monestiés, one of the most beautiful villages in France, following the old railway line between Carmaux and Cordes. The Voix du Cérou circuit is perfect for a family ride. Sitting on the saddle, you don't need to exert yourself to cover the 15 kilometres of the route. From Salles-sur-Cérou, you leave the road to join the old railway line to Monestiès. The track is flat, wide, and shaded by the vegetation along the river Cérou. Once you arrive in Monestiès, classified as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France, you will find many picnic tables for your lunch stop. Before getting back on your bikes, take the time to discover the narrow streets and beautiful houses of Monestiès. The medieval town also has two sites to visit: the tomb and the Bajen-Vega museum. It is on leaving Monestiès that you will have to make an effort to climb the Jouvenate hill. Once at the top, you will have to turn around to admire the beautiful view of the village below. The return to Salles is a leisurely walk along the Zère stream. The small valley of Bonnan is towered over by the sheer faces of limestone cliffs. Over this 11km route, you will discover a landscape which alternates between green meadows, arid, barren hillsides and the grassy expanses and twisted oaks of the Caussenard plateau. A tuff waterfall: In karstic regions, infiltration water causes the formation of dolines (closed depressions in the relief) and other avens by dissolving the limestone. Most of the time, they reappear in the form of Vaucluse springs. A similar phenomenon exists in the Bonnan valley in the form of a petrified waterfall. The event occurs during periods of high water. The water pours down in a tuff cascade (non-homogeneous porous rock, often powdery, in this case of sedimentary origin) over a height of about forty metres to cover the sandstone (stable mixture of rock and clay). A natural well collects them. Once underground, they resurface as a Vaucluse fountain at Gourp de Fénérols.

Starting from the pretty village of Milhars, venture up and down the welcoming countryside offering a different landscape in each of the valleys. An ideal choice for a 10 km route of medium difficulty. This hike offers magnificent views of the Cérou and Aveyron valleys at various points along the way. Natural meadows, oak forests and ancient vineyards make up a varied landscape characteristic of this area on the fringes of Bas Rouergue and Grésigne. The little church of Saint-Projet de Larroque (12th-15th centuries), on the banks of the Aveyron, is a very pleasant place to stop: not only does it offer a welcoming environment, but it is striking for its sober beauty and the traces of its distant past. Take a diversion to visit the pretty village of Milhars, which boasts a charming rural heritage (dovecotes, ovens, wash-houses, etc.). The street plan is known as a ‘spiral’ because of the tightly-packed streets that wind their way up to the castle, and the itinerary takes you past rivers, fields and meadows, crossing streams, all the way to the Vère-Grésigne leisure centre.

This public fountain deeply carved in a huge mass of granite is at the center of the village. A latin inscription relates the date of its construction and the name of the Conuls under whom it was erected.

This chapel was previously linked to a hospital and a cementery. The gate is the only remaining item. It was linked to and relied upon the Dômerie d’Aubrac.

Built at the foot of the fortress, this residence dating from the end of the Middle Ages, is said to have been the residence of the Senechal du Rouergue in the day when Najac was the administrative and judiciary capital of the Rouergue province.

This is a defensive strucutre built at the same time as the forteress by Alphonse de Poitiers. It is used to be part of the wall that surrounded the city of Najac until the 18th century.

This used to be a rest area (hence the name : La Pause) on the medieval road (former roman path) leading to Najac via the St Blaise bridge. Thanks to renowned fairs and traditional markets, this part of town remained a flourishing neighborhood until the end of 19th century.

The Toulouse-Brive Railway was built in 1860. In Laguépie-Najac section, there are 13 bridges and 13 tunnels !

This gothic bridge was built in the 13th century, along the primitive road witch led toward Villefranche de Rouergue. It allowed merchants and pilgrims to cross the Aveyron river in all seasons, on their way to Saint Jacques de Compostelle.

AIR LE PARC is located in a beautiful former 19th-century notary's residence, the base of which dates back to 1596, adjoining a park surrounded by old stone walls, in PAMPELONNE (Tarn), a 13th-century bastide town. The residence has been open since 2006. Artists' residency, project and research centre for professional artists working in all disciplines (design, painting, visual arts, music, writing, theatre, dance, film, multimedia, etc.). It is also open for sessions, seminars, concerts and training courses. The rooms and studios are spacious. Large communal areas are available for projects. Groups of hikers or weddings can also be accommodated if required.
