A steep road along the beautiful Lac de Montriond. It's hard not to stop, but be sure to do so on the way down. Watch out for the goats in the village of Les Lindarets! Gradient: 6%. This legendary col has featured in the Tour de France seven times. Quite shady at first and consisting of steeper ramps between long false flats, the gradient kicks up to 10% after Montriond. Be careful when going through Les Lindarets, as it is not unusual to find herds of goats nonchalantly occupying the road! The final section of the climb is more regular, zigzagging up through the forest to the Col de Joux verte.

Enjoy a refreshing break as you stroll along the banks of the Dranse. The Dérèches walk is a flat, low-mountain trail beside the river. Undemanding, it's ideal for a morning jog or simply to relax. All around you, the background music is composed of two sounds: the trickling of the river and birdsong. The shelter of the trees and proximity to the Dranse make for a pleasant stroll, without feeling too hot.

An easy hike from the heights of Montriond along a forest trail to the hamlet of Guéritolles, from where you can enjoy superb panoramic views over the villages of Montriond, Morzine and Essert-Romand. Along the way, you'll see traditional granaries and alpine chalets, and enjoy magnificent views of the surrounding villages and peaks.

A path to stroll along the Dranse. From the Super Morzine Gondola, take the lift down to the swimming Pool, and start the Dereches river walk. All along the river you will find wooden exercise obsticals, a kids play area, horse stables and tree climbing. A walk not to miss!

Tucked away in the heart of Morzine, the Parc des Dérêches walk offers a natural interlude through the seasons. Running alongside the River Dranse, this peaceful stroll appeals to families and sports enthusiasts alike. Everyone who’s tackled this short climb is of the same opinion: it’s a tough one! After passing the chalets at Côte-d'Arbroz village, you’ll continue pedalling in perfect peace, taking in open and wooded sections. Gradient: 8.5%

This is less difficult than the southern route, but it’s very steep from the off! Highlights include the fine finish area, next to a little lake once you’ve passed the Ranfolly col. Gradient: 6.5%

The Col de La Ramaz is one of the most beautiful passes in Haute-Savoie! You can see Mont Blanc right from the bottom of the climb, and at the summit, the panorama of the entire massif is exceptional. Highlighted by Richard Virenque's fantastic breakaway in the 2003 Tour de France (in which he took the yellow jersey and a stage win in Morzine!), this pass remains a classic to add to your race list.

This stunning lake - known also as the emerald green lake - sits quietly at the foot of immense cliffs and is a favourite with children and adults thanks to the idyllic vision it offers and the feeling of calm it evokes. Lake Montriond was created after a part of the Nantaux mountain fell away to the north-west. Although it is unclear when this landslide happened - estimates vary from 300 to 4500 years ago!) the landslide created a natural dam in the existing river which became the lake we see today. The water level was nonetheless prone to serious fluctations and a huge project to rectify this was completed in 1990 thanks to Montriond town hall. Since then the tourist industry has flourished... Montriond Lake is a huge outdoor playground with something for everyone...it includes a swimming area that's suitable for even very young swimmers, while other visitors can try pony riding, canoeing, paddle or mini-golf. Older children and adults also enjoy walking around the lake to take in the intoxicating beauty of it all... The Lake is also a jewel of a find for anglers, with its healthy stock of fario trout and rainbow trout, char and tiddlers! A fishing licence is required so enthusiasts must wait until the snow has melted before they can start to uncover the riches that lie beneath the surface... In figures, Montriond Lake is 33 hectares in size, or 25000 to 35000m2 depnding on the water level. Lake Montriond is a Chablais UNESCO Global Geopark Key Site. As you walk around Montriond lake you will discover the glacial history of the valley, the Sarde land registry and also the tale of the extravagant Baron de l'Espée...

A slate-quarry worker welcomes you into his workshop to present the history of Morzine's 200-years old slate industry and demonstrates his modern work-techniques. One of the last slate quarries in France, with the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (Living Heritage Company) label, we perpetuate this ancestral activity while innovating in extraction and working methods, and offering traditional and fashionable products for roofing, interior and exterior fittings.

The Roc de Tavaneuse overlooks the eponymous lake and is part of the magnificent landscape of the Abondance valley. It can be seen from the heart of the village of Abondance, which it makes glow on sunny days. Located at 2156m, the Roc de Tavaneuse is accessible from the lake of Tavaneuse on the Abondance side, the chalets of Lens on the Vallée d'Aulps side and from the Savolaire passage. Enjoy a wonderful view of Mont Blanc from the summit.

At the foot of the Roc d'Enfer mountains, this hollow coomb is a huge Alpine pasture, surrounded by stunning, steep cliffs. The Graydon chapel and surrounding chalets offer a genuine and peaceful glimpse of a mountain way of life. Located at 1340m and rising to 2243m, the Graydon meadows are easily accessible by car in summer from Essert-Romand. Graydon is the starting point for many walks including the Roc d'Enfer tour, a delightful route that winds through Alpine meadows, offering a glimpse of marmottes and deer. This circuit has superb panoramas of the Aravis mountains, the Roc d'Enfer and the Mt Blanc range. Visitors who wish to learn more about the chapel are invited to go in. It dates from the 19th century but was recently restored, providing a place to sit quietly and recharge your batteries. It hosts several services throughout the warmer months.

At the heart of the alpine Graydon pasture, under the hardened eye of the majestic roc d’enfer, you find the little Graydon chapel. It was built in 1859 and then entirely renovated in 2009 The Graydon chapel constructed in 1859, allowed for the parishes of ST Jean d’Aulps and that of Essert Romand, separated a few years earlier to keep a certain link between them. It was in 1902 that the Swiss architect, Goss, constructed the entrance porche where two Capitals where added that came from the Aulps Abbey. The chapel in consecrated to the immaculate conception is today a place of celebrations and all through the summer season the parish celebrates a mass every Wednesday You can get there from Essert Romand or from the little hamlet called Valette at St Jean d’Aulps

Located at 1805 m altitude in Abondance, at the foot of the cliffs of the small Piron point, between scree slopes and alpine meadows, the Tavaneuse lake is one of the most beautiful lakes in the Chablais. The access is sporty but the clarity of its waters is worth the diversions! The ascent to the lake, of moderate difficulty, is made from the Prétairié parking lot or from the Lac des Plagnes via the Ardens chalets. If you're feeling more sporty, you can reach the Roc de Tavaneuse (2156 m). Dry fly fishing is also available here at sunrise. Several hiking trails invite you to discover this mountain lake. Like all high-altitude lakes, swimming is not recommended for health reasons and to preserve the fragile aquatic environment.

Unusually, Saint Jean d’Aulps has two parish churches, one opposite the town hall and another -- Saint Jean the Baptist -- on the opposite side of the river Dranse. This second church is more commonly known as “Moussière” church, after the hamlet where it was built at the end of the 19th century in the Gothic style. This magnificent church was recently restored by the hamlet’s residents. Those interested in pushing open its vast doors will find a pretty statue of Saint Guerin, the patron saint of Aulps Valley. This fine place of worship is also the venue for many summer events, playing host to numerous concerts.

The majestic Ardent waterfall high above Montriond village is half-way between Lake Montriond and Les Lindarets. It's emblematic of the valley, with its spectacular setting that captures the magic and splendour of the area. Just a stone's throw from Lac de Montriond, the Cascade d'Ardent is the starting point for an attractive forest trail from a bridge over the listed waterfall.

Each building is equipped with a kitchenette with two gas, dishes, bowls and allows those who wish to be autonomous. The large building includes the kitchen, a large dining room and a dormitory of 18 persons. The sheepfold has 13 places, it is a haven of peace, easy to heat in winter thanks to its wood stove. We'll be delighted to welcome you for a restful night in our refuge (dormitory only) or for a simple, generous meal in our inn (lunchtime only, preferably by reservation). The Chardonnière refuge is located on the GR5 - GR96 route and is recommended for nature lovers. It is above all the alpine pasture for our herd of dairy cows. Here you'll find a warm, simple welcome, a generous, hearty meal cooked to the highest standard with products from our farm, and a night's sleep lulled to sleep by the sound of clarines.
