Follow it and pass near old calamine ovens. Continue keeping right in the valley and arrive to Saint-Gleys. Cross the hamlet and continue on the road to the left towards Saint-Jean-du-Bruel. At the entrance of the village turn right and cross the old bridge.Go left to discover the center of the village, then return to the bridge. Take the road D999 towards Nant for 500m, then turn left towards Fougayrolles. Cross the hamlet and continue left towards a path which goes up to a cross. Follow right the road which leads to the ruins of Algues Castle. Possibility to go and back to the panorama.Continue on a wide dirt road which goes down to the valley and arrives to the fortified Castelnau farm. Take the D999 on left for 1,2km.Take right the road which crosses the Dourbie river on a submersible bridge. 50m after the bridge, turn left on the road and continue north.Cross the La Prade bridge and return to Nant.

The foothills of the Larzac as a backdrop, a landscape of meadows and undergrowth, a paceful walk along a laughing stream that irrigates the country of Nant, called "the garden of Aveyron".From the car park, take the road on the left towards Mas du Pré and cross the pretty bridge (you can see the hamlet on the left).At the iron cross, turn right on a wide dirt track which successively runs along meadows and fields. Then it shrinks to enter the wood. The Durzon River is nearby.At the intersection, leave the small tuff bridge on the right (private property of the descendants of Victor Hugo) and turn off towards left. 200m further, at the junction, take the right path along the river and continue for 800m to reach the spring.From the source, cross the Durzon on the concrete footbridge and take, at the bottom of the meadow, the path that goes up on the right towards Mas de Pommiers. Then follow the asphalt road to the starting point.From the point 4: you can return to the starting point by the same route as on the way out.

Around Cantobre, a village perched on a promontory of Causse Bégon, a walk in the gorges of Trévezel, whose steep slopes are home to an exceptional biodiversity.From the parking, take the D145 for 380m to reach the village of Cantobre.At the exit of the village, turn left (leave the road) and enter the path that goes into the woods. First narrow and steep, the path becomes more comfortable. Continue for 450 m.At the treatment plant, the path leads to an intersection. Take the path opposite.Continue straight on the path (don’t cross the fording). The path continues with a track to the mill (follow yellows signs).From the mill, take the small road along a stream for 900 m and then goes up towards Cantobre.Turn left and go up the path for 150 m , then turn left again to reach the village of Cantobre.

Sentier de découverte Revens est un petit village très pittoresque, caractéristique du Causse Noir, situé au sud-ouest de celui-ci. C'est la commune la plus excentrée vers l'ouest du département du Gard. Comme les autres communes du Causse, elle possède plusieurs hameaux disséminés au gré des exploitations agricoles. L'architecture y utilise le matériau constituant l'essentiel des causses : le calcaire. A landscape of steppes and moors as far as the eye can see forms the case of this accessible to everyone ride on the southern Larzac. In the middle, a jewel : the templar village of La Couvertoirade. From the car park, go on the track towards south-east to cross the Cazejourdes plain and arrive to the road D55. Cross the road and take the path that is almost in front to ride on a track for about 1km before meeting the road that goes to the “Domaine de Gaillac” (equestrian center, museum of Southern Aveyron Traditions and restaurant).Cross it and continue on a succession of tracks and singles to the road that leads to the famous fortified village of La Couvertoirade (follow it on the left to visit the Templar and Hospitaller site).Turn right to get to the D55 and go straight on the road D185 towards “La Pezade" for 700m then take a track on the right for about 2,5km.Before arriving to La Salvetat, turn right on the track to Belvezet (typical hamlet of the Larzac Causse). The city of Nant obtained in 1369 the right to have fairs and markets, right granted by the Duke of Anjou. In the 15th century, the privileges of the city are confirmed: weekly markets are held there, 4 annual fairs are conceded, one of which lasted 3 days on November, 2, 3 and 4.The covered market was rebuilt in 1706 an 1707, the first stone was laid on March, 13, 1706.It is a squat, rectangular construction (30 m long and 8 m wide) with 12 pillars supporting the vault, interconnected by a semicircular arch.On a pillar, a plaque commemorates the events of August 14 and 15, 1944 when two Nant’s civilians and seven maquisards from “Maquis des Corsaires” were shot.Listed in the inventory of Historic Monuments since April 13, 1944.

From the village of Cantobre, you can admire on one side the panorama on the Gorges of Dourbie and Trevezel and on the other side on the Dourbie Valley.

The church Saint-Etienne de Cantobre, attached in 1135 to the abbey of Nant, became parish at the end of the 12th century. Only the apse with three sides, lit by three windows, and the span of the choir are Romanesque. The nave and side chapels were rebuilt in the 16th century. The bell tower houses a bronze bell from 1630, it is on the list of objects classified M.H. November 5, 1943.

Located at the foot of the hamlet, on the Dourbie River, you can see the mill of Cantobre. In the past, it was a mill for grinding wheat, nowadays it is a micro power station. It is fed by a canal, which brings the water of the Dourbie retained upstream by a dam. A fishway has been set against the dam, allowing them to go up the river even if there is no more water flowing on the river in summer.

Since 2012, a project to reintroduce bearded vultures has been launched in the Grands Causses with the aim of strengthening the French population of bearded vultures. Two sites were selected to let the birds go, one in Meyrueis, in the Jonte gorges and the other in the municipality of Nant, on the Trévezel Gorges.The bearded vulture is one of the 4 species present in France and one of the largest raptors in Europe.It is a scavenger and feeds on bone remains taken from ungulate carcasses (sheep, goats, chamois ...).

Its perimeter extends between Saint-Jean du Bruel and Causse-Bégon and the works concern "La Gardiole", the Valettes (above the ovens), "Les Baldy" and "L'Yfer" above the brook called Saint-Gleys between Barjac and the confluence of Valettes. The main ore is constituted by calamine containing 35 to 40% zinc. The five furnaces are intended for enrichment by the so-called reduction method. As the research progresses, the results soon turn out to be disappointing, because if from 1901 to 1904, 800 tons of calamine are extracted, 390 tons in 1905, 435 tons in 1906, it is treated only 160 tons in 1909. Work must stop in 1914 and will never be resumed. After their abandonment, the five ovens will serve as a quarry. The three openings of the ovens are each coated with two rows of refractory bricks. These bricks will be used by a local artisan to make small metal ovens for baking bread, to keep cozy warmth under the feet and beds of the inhabitants of St-Jean, and finally to build the heating fireplace of the church. . Lime rendering and the use of chestnut wood blend perfectly with the original stone. The garden offers a variety of relaxation areas for a well-deserved rest. Situated on the edge of the GR70 and very close to the GR61, 'Le Pré de Modestine' is the ideal place to enjoy the end of Stevenson's route, or to organize hikes to discover the Cévennes. The gîte is located 1 km upstream from Saint Jean du Gard.

Some tents are fully equipped (bathroom, solar panel lighting) and all our models have bedrooms with real beds and a kitchenette (fridge, 2 burner stove, dishes and utensils). It is also possible to rent a Bivouac pitch to put up your own tent (without electrical connection). We will accompany you throughout your stay and advise you.
