Charming walk in a pretty park where the Eure spring supplied water to the city of Nîmes via the Pont du Gard in Roman times. Go up to the orientation table to observe the exceptional ducal city. Variant of 2.96km possible. From the Tourist Office, turn left and follow "Boulevard Charles Gide" towards the municipal swimming pool. Turn right towards "Le Parc du Du Duché". Continue straight ahead at the "Vallée de L'Eure "* sign. Take the left-hand path up to "la Montagnette". Then turn left in the direction of the Table d'orientation (uphill for 1.2 km). Take the path in the opposite direction back to Uzès. Return to Uzès via "le Moulin du Tournal" (uphill). Then turn right towards the "André Gide" path to return to Uzès. *Possibility of shortening the route to 3km, avoiding the climb to the orientation table.

Combining 12.21 km of forest tracks and 8.87 km of roads, this route has a positive vertical drop of over 310 meters, ideal for enjoying nature to the full. A problem on a route? A difficulty? Report it on Suricate! Suricate is a national service for reporting problems encountered on outdoor trails. Reports are forwarded to local managers for correction, helping to improve the quality and safety of outdoor itineraries.

This bike tour will take you on a journey of discovery of grandiose sites such as the town of Uzès, and the natural site of the Gorges du Gardon and its wildlife! On shared roads, you'll pass through villages of authentic charm, admiring the vivid colors of the garrigue, vineyards and orchards. A unique blend of nature and culture in the heart of our beautiful destination! The route from Uzès is signposted. In town, route signs may change. Please respect the Highway Code and the regulations of the Pont du Gard site. Start : Uzès, parking des arènes. Leaving Uzès, walk alongside the arena and turn right onto Chemin de l'Escalette. Continue along this path. Continue straight ahead past the Haribo museum, then, when you reach the D981, cross over at the crosswalk on your left. Continue straight ahead on Chemin de la Californie, on your right. Continue on Chemin Lou Saute, then right onto Chemin de Perret. A strenuous ascent on a stony dirt track for 350 m (yellow markings on map). At Sagriès, take the D212 to Sanilhac. Turn right onto Avenue du Stade. Turn left into Allée des Platanes in Sanilhac, then join Route de Collias (D112). In Collias, turn left onto Route d'Uzès, then right at Le Plan. Take the first right after the campsite onto Chemin de Coste Garoute, and continue on Chemin du Grès. A challenging climb of 1 km. Turn right onto Chemin de la Marquise (stony path). Continue on Chemin des Begudes, then Chemin de Valive. Turn left, then right. You will pass the Pont du Gard museum and join the Pont du Gard road at the traffic circle. Cross over to the left at the crosswalk and follow the D981 towards Uzès. Continue straight on to the next traffic circle, then turn right towards Vers. Follow the D227 (Route de Misserand) then the D192 (Avenue Santa Vittoria d'Alba). Turn left onto Rue Grand du Bourg, then right onto Rue de la Poste. Join the D227 (Route d'Argilliers) and D3B (Route d'Uzès). Go straight ahead and take Route de Castille, Chemin de Bornegre, and join the D365 (Les Santolines). Continue on Chemin de la Coste, La Calotte, Carrignargues. Turn right on the D981 to reach the Haribo museum, then right on Chemin de l'Escalette. Climb for 1.5 km to reach the starting point.

After strolling through the narrow streets of the Duchy of Uzès, take time to discover the Alzon gorges and the beautiful capitelles, witnesses to a rich agricultural region. From the bottom of the Refuge parking lot, climb the steps and turn right. At "les Arènes", turn right down the street (GR 63). At the "patte d'oie" (crow's-foot), turn left down a tarmac and then dirt track. At "l'escalette", continue down the track, pass the "Moulin de Carrière" and turn right. Go past the two "Château Bérard" signposts and follow "saint-Maximin" along a path leading up to a track on the right. At "Chemin du Mazet" (GR 63 split), follow signs for "La Montagne" on the left. At the gate (on the right, a capitelle, private road), continue straight ahead on a path climbing to a track, which you take to the left for 200m. Alternative (less than 7km): go straight on, following "Chemin du château d'eau" then "Route de Saint-Siffret". At "La Montagne", turn right onto "Saint-Maximin". Cross the track. Continue for 500m, then leave the track and turn left onto a path winding through the forest (follow the signs). At "Chemin des Chaussettes", leave the track and turn left onto a stony path leading downhill (capitelle on the right). At "Combe de l'Evescat", take the path up to the plateau. At "Chemin de Saint-Quentin", turn left. Go through two gates, then cross a road and take the track opposite. At "les planes", follow the stony downhill track. At "Les planes-Le Bas", follow "Route de Saint-Siffret", "Table d'Orientation". At the plateau, take the right-hand track. After 300 m, turn left onto the Chemin des Capitelles (numerous capitelles). On returning to the track, turn right twice and follow the asphalt path straight ahead. At "Route de Saint-Siffret", follow the track to the right. At "Table d'Orientation", follow "La Montagnette" to the left (viewpoint), then take the track to the right. After 200 m, take the downhill track to the right (view of Uzès). At "La Montagnette", follow "Vallée de l'Eure" then "Le Moulin du Tournal". Follow the Aqueduct on the left (700m round trip). Follow signs for "André Gide", cross the footbridge over the Alzon and climb a stony path. At "André Gide", take the path that climbs to the right. At "Cathédrale Saint-Theodorit", follow the boulevard to the left, then rue de Gisfort, up la Traverse and rue Saint-Ferréol. At "Rue de l'Escalette", turn left into rue de l'Escalette as far as "Les Arènes".

Join the D112 towards Collias (⚠️ caution). Follow the route d'Uzès through Collias, then turn right towards Le Plan. Continue along chemin de Coste Garoute, then chemin du Grès, before branching off onto chemin de la Draille and chemin du Garrège. Follow the Chemin des Bégudes and the Chemin de Valive to reach the Pont du Gard. Cross the Pont du Gard site via avenue du Pont-du-Gard, then join the D981 (⚠️ vigilance) and cross the Gardon towards Remoulins via chemin de Castillon-du-Gard and the D892. In Remoulins, take chemin de la Coste and then the D228, before rejoining the D981 in the Bégude-de-Vers-Pont-du-Gard sector. Continue on the D227 (route d'Argilliers) then the D3B (route d'Uzès). Continue straight on towards Castille, then take the Chemin de Bornegre and the D365 (Les Santolines). Pass through La Calotte and Carrignargues. Turn right onto the D981 to reach the Haribo museum, then right onto Chemin de l'Escalette. Climb for 1.5 km to reach the starting point.

Why choose the Pont du Gard Greenway? A spectacular tunnel: cool in summer and subtly lit, it delights young and old alike and is one of the highlights of the route. Diverse landscapes: the path winds through vineyards and garrigue landscapes and runs alongside natural sites perfect for a contemplative break. A route accessible to everyone: at 3 meters wide, the greenway safely accommodates cyclists, pedestrians, rollerbladers, scooter riders, strollers, and people with limited mobility. Places to relax: Numerous picnic tables let you enjoy a pleasant moment with family or friends, surrounded by nature. Between vineyards and garrigue, take the time to discover the scents, the colors and the panoramas. Follow small roads, cross villages with timeless charm and admire the pond of La Capelle and Masmolène, a protected area classified Natura 2000. The course is very quiet, about 1/3 is on road Market place - Saint-Quentin-la-Poterie". At the level of "La Jasse" take the path on your right direction "Vallabrix". Continue on the "Chemin de Masmolene" and "Route de Vallabrix Take the D219 and fork left by "Chemin de l'étang" before taking the D219 "Route d'Uzès". When you arrive at "Tendre" take the path on the right (Be careful! Cross the D982) Take the D4 by the right direction "Flaux" and take the "Route de Flaux" direction "Saint-Quentin-La-Poterie" by the D405 to return to the starting point.

The Valorgues Cave is a natural resurgence; during heavy rains, water gushes forth from deep within the earth. The route starts from the free parking lot on Rue de la Madone. Throughout the route, follow the signs marked with a blue vase. As you leave the parking lot, take the street on the right. At the first fork, continue left, staying on Rue de la Madone. When you reach Chemin de Vallabrix, turn right, then immediately take the first path on the left (Chemin de Gresse). Follow this paved road for about 600 meters. At the next intersection, turn left and continue for 1.6 km until you reach Route de Saint-Laurent-la-Vernède. Turn right, then take Chemin des Bougnettes on your left. Continue for 100 meters. At the first fork, keep to the right. At the next fork, turn left onto Chemin de la Jasse and continue for 100 meters, then take the dirt path on the left. Follow this path for 400 meters to the intersection, then take the path on the right toward Chemin de Fontarèches. Continue for 300 meters before turning right onto a dirt path. Continue for 650 meters, then turn left toward the Aven de Valorgues. At the next fork, you can take a round trip to explore the Aven de Valorgues by following the “A/R” signs. To continue on the main route, take the path on the right toward La Vourneze. Follow this path for 450 meters, then turn left at the second path and continue for 450 meters. Next, turn right and continue for 500 meters until you reach Chemin de la Vourneze. Take this path on the right and continue for 450 meters until you reach the Chemin des Bougnettes on your left. Turn onto it and continue for 100 meters. Then reach the Route de Saint-Laurent-la-Vernède. Turn right, then take the Chemin de Roquesis on the left. Finally, take the first dirt path on the left and continue for 1.5 km. At the fork, rejoin the route you took on the way there. The return to the parking lot follows the same path, following the trail markers in the opposite direction back to the starting point.

Uzès, France’s first duchy, a town designated as a “remarkable heritage site” and recognized as a “City of Art and History,” will host a new edition of Uzès Exposition in 2027. "Uzès, the Metamorphosis—Memories of a City" traces the city’s architectural evolution, highlighting in particular the creation of the historic preservation district in 1965 under the Malraux Law, which marked the starting point of its modern transformation. A visual and sensory journey that immerses visitors in the memories of the ducal city: a photographic collection, videos, postcards, artifacts, archival documents, and audio testimonials from residents. This new edition also commemorates a significant event in 2026: the fiftieth anniversary of André Malraux’s death.

Ucetia, a city of water The first traces of human settlement in Uzès were found on the banks of the Alzon, around the Eure spring. At the beginning of our era, the Romans captured abundant water here. It was carried to Nîmes by a 50 km aqueduct, of which the Pont du Gard is the most remarkable part. Uzès, city of bishops The bishopric of Uzès was created in the 5th century A.D. on the model of Roman organization. Until the French Revolution, the bishops of Uzès were said to have coined money and administered justice: prerogatives that testify to their great power. In the 18th century, the diocese of Uzès comprised 193 parishes, making it one of the largest in the Languedoc region. Uzès, past and present Uzès, 1st Duchy of France In 1229, Languedoc, of which Uzès is a part, became part of the French crown. In 1565, Charles IX elevated the Comte de Crussol to the dignity of duke to ensure his loyalty to the crown. In 1632, the Duc d'Uzès became 1st Duke of France. The Duchy, located in the heart of the town, still belongs to the ducal family, who have lived there for over 1000 years. Uzès, Huguenot In the 16th century, Uzès was the fifth-largest Protestant city in the kingdom. But the Uzès temple was destroyed during the Wars of Religion. In 1685, Louis XIV revoked the Edict of Nantes: Uzès Protestants either converted or chose to emigrate throughout Europe. Uzès in the industrial revolution Uzès and the surrounding area were home to numerous mills, now in ruins, but which had been used since the 15th century to manufacture serges and woollen cloth, leather and silk. But silkworm disease led to the decline of sericulture, which employed some 2,000 people in Uzès until the end of the 19th century. It was then that the railway station was set up outside the town, and two new activities were developed: the production of utilitarian and artistic ceramics, and licorice-making. These activities still exist today: Zan, the flagship of Uzès' licorice factories, has become Haribo - Ricqlès - Zan, and the Pichon family's pottery, present in Uzès since 1802, perpetuates tradition and know-how and contributes to making Uzès an internationally renowned destination. Uzès, past and present Beautiful Uzès In the 20th century, Uzès was given a new lease of life when its city center was designated a "protected area" on January 5, 1965. Since then, Uzès has continued to embellish itself: streets have been paved, electrical wires have been hidden, 12 hectares of property were restored in 1965, and today 41 hectares of the town have been classified under the Malraux law. Since the early 1950s, economic development has picked up again, thanks to tourism and the installation of major establishments such as the departmental psychiatric hospital and the new local hospital, the Haribo company, the Haras National stud farm and numerous SMEs. In the heart of Uzès, a medieval-inspired botanical garden on a historic site dating back to the 12th century. Host to exhibitions and concerts. A medieval-inspired botanical garden featuring some 450 medicinal, dyeing, foraging, magic and condiment plants, duly labeled with Latin and popular names, origin and biotope, virtues and multiple uses in the Middle Ages. Situated in the heart of the ducal city of Uzès, this living herbarium appreciated by insects and birds is nestled in the heart of a rich historical heritage dating back to the 12th century. The Bishop's Tower and adjacent chapel feature exceptional prisoner graffiti, and the King's Tower, from the top of its 100 steps, offers an admirable panorama of the town and its surroundings. The various buildings served as a prison until 1926. Art and educational exhibitions in the rooms adjacent to the towers and in the former cells throughout the period of public opening. The consuls' house, which housed the former town hall as early as the 15th century, was destroyed by fire in the 18th century. From 1779 to 1781, the town hall was rebuilt on the same site, by order of the bishop who owned the land. The façade is reminiscent of the town hall. The building's layout is based on the traditional French-style mansion between courtyard and garden. The monumental portal is an example of Uzétienne's remarkable ironwork.

Situated in the heart of Uzès, the Duchy's impressive structure reveals its military origins in its keep, the Bermonde Tower (12th century), its ramparts and its corner towers. The Renaissance façade is truly an architectural gem. The history of France continues to be told in the remarkable Renaissance façade (16th century) where the classical architectural orders - Ionic, Doric and Corinthian - are superimposed. It is very rare to find these three orders together on the same façade. The Grand Siècle and the 18th century are present on the facades with wide windows opening onto the main courtyard of the garden. In this journey through time, you will also discover the almost thousand-year-old cellars, the magnificent view from the top of the keep over the city and its surroundings, and the furnished apartments still inhabited by the ducal family.

Born in Uzès in 1747, Gabriel de Froment d'Argilliers, Baron de Castille, inherited a building that he had transformed into a private mansion during the first quarter of the 19th century. His taste for Antique Rome and columns is notorious and characterizes the style. The CR initials on the façade are those of his union with a young girl from the Rohan family, of which he was so proud. The small footbridge spanning the alleyway links the block on which Baron's hanging gardens once stood. This enabled him to access his gardens without having to use the public highway. A man open to new ideas, he had a passion for travel and an immoderate taste for columns, as evidenced by the building's imposing peristyle. He was also responsible for the columns of the Pavillon Racine and the Château d'Argilliers.

From the 5th century to the French Revolution, Uzès was the episcopal see, with its cathedral built in 1090. Destroyed during the Albigensian War, rebuilt then destroyed during the Wars of Religion, the current cathedral dates from 1652. The neo-Romanesque façade was plastered over the old building in 1873. The rib-vaulted interior was probably richer than it appears today. Inside, the 17th-century organs can still be seen. The organs have the unusual feature of still having their original shutters. A number of concerts are organized to showcase the quality of this instrument.

The Georges Borias Museum is housed within the old, 17th century Episcopal Palace, between the town and the garrigue. Browse through its archeological, historical and art and craft collections, and learn more about the town's rich heritage and the writers that contributed to its reputation (Racine, Gide). Pottery from Uzège is one of the highlights of the museum: pottery from Saint-Quentin, products from the Pichon factory in Uzès. Do not miss the famous Uzès cupboards, painted furniture typical of the region in the 18th century. Important collection dedicated to the writer André Gide: portraits, personal souvenirs, manuscripts, correspondence, illustrated editions... The Georges Borias Museum has been recognised as a Musée de France by the Ministry of Culture. It organises a temporary exhibition every year. The shared garden is a green space where local residents learn and pass on the art of growing vegetables and fruit. It's a place to learn about eco-gardening, run by an association representing local players: residents, institutions and associations. It is open to all, without discrimination. Its aim is to provide a meeting place for different generations and cultures. Located within the "Mas Careiron" hospital complex, the plot made available by the hospital covers an area of around 2,000 m2. Protected from the wind by the surrounding buildings and trees, it offers arable land and is also an invitation to relax. We've named it "The Orchard". This space is made up of a communal plot, the "shared garden", surrounded by individual or associative plots known as "Camille's gardens". The Haras National d'Uzès has a breeding tradition in the Mediterranean region. As the headquarters of the IFCE's Mediterranean Arc Territorial Delegation, it carries out research, dissemination, training and promotion of equestrian heritage. The IFCE is the public operator responsible for supporting the professionalization of the equine industry. It is placed under the dual authority of the Ministries of Agriculture and Sport.
