Description

Born in Uzès in 1747, Gabriel de Froment d'Argilliers, Baron de Castille, inherited a building that he had transformed into a private mansion during the first quarter of the 19th century. His taste for Antique Rome and columns is notorious and characterizes the style.
The CR initials on the façade are those of his union with a young girl from the Rohan family, of which he was so proud.
The small footbridge spanning the alleyway links the block on which Baron's hanging gardens once stood. This enabled him to access his gardens without having to use the public highway.
A man open to new ideas, he had a passion for travel and an immoderate taste for columns, as evidenced by the building's imposing peristyle. He was also responsible for the columns of the Pavillon Racine and the Château d'Argilliers.
