A route with a few climbs that will take you around the outskirts of St-Bertrand de Comminges and through Les Frontignes. With the Pyrenees as a backdrop, you’ll cycle through fields, forests and small villages in the Pyrenean foothills. Route suggested by the La Roue Libre Huossaise cycling club. From Gourdan Polignan station, head towards Seilhan on the D8a, which will take you to St-Bertrand de Comminges. Continue towards Loures Barousse and then Barbazan (roundabout with lots of traffic). Follow the D26 towards Sauveterre de Comminges (hamlet of Bruncan) and continue towards St-Pé d'Ardet. Continue towards Frontignan de Comminges and then Fronsac. Head for Luchon and after 2 km, at the roundabout, take the cycle route to Loures Barousse, Labroquère and Gourdan-Polignan.

This challenging route is a great way to start tackling elevation gains as part of your training before taking on mountain passes. Set between the plains and the foothills of the Pyrenees, your ride will be punctuated by varied landscapes and lovely viewpoints. Route suggested by the La Roue Libre Huossaise cycling club. From Gourdan Polignan station, head towards Seilhan on the D8a, which will take you to St-Bertrand de Comminges and then Loures Barousse. Take the cycle lane towards Chaum. At the roundabout, turn left towards Fronsac and then the Col des Ares (797m - 8.4km climb - 330m ascent - % average: 4 - % maximum: 11). At the summit, continue towards Juzet d'Izaut, Izaut de l'Hôtel, Payssous, Sauveterre de Comminges and Barbazan. This brings you to the second difficulty on the route, the côte de Burs (600m - 1.74km ascent - 125m vertical drop - average %: 7.1 - maximum %: 7.1). Continue towards Hauts de Labroquère and descend towards Labroquère. At the traffic lights, cross the D825 to take the cycle route back to Gourdan-Polignan.

A loop at the foot of the Haut-Garonne Pyrenees to prepare for slightly more mountainous routes. Depart from Montréjeau-Gourdan-Polignan station towards Pointis de Rivière, Ardiège and Barbazan. Then you reach Loures Barousse for a ride through the Barousse valley with some nice hills. After St-Bertrand de Comminges, the route is flat back to the starting point.

A loop at the foot of the Haut-Garonne Pyrenees with beautiful hills on country roads. Departure from Montréjeau-Gourdan-Polignan station towards St-Bertrand de Comminges. You will pass close to the Gargas caves. You will tackle a series of hills (Montoussé, St-Arroman, Mazouau, Hèches, Col de Coupe).

A relatively easy route alternating between cycle paths and back roads. You’ll explore the villages of St-Bertrand de Comminges and Valcabrère, pass through picturesque villages and cycle along the banks of the Garonne. Route suggested by the La Roue Libre Huossaise cycling club. From Gourdan Polignan station, head towards Seilhan on the D8a, which will take you to St-Bertrand de Comminges. Continue towards Loures Barousse and then Barbazan (roundabout with lots of traffic). On leaving Barbazan, head towards Cier de Rivière, Ardiège and Martres de Rivière. Cross the D8 towards Pointis de Rivière to join the cycle path along the banks of the Garonne. This will take you to Gourdan Polignan.

This family trail runs alongside the Garonne. There are panoramic views of remarkable sites such as Saint-Bertrand de Comminges. Admire the church at Seilhan and its octagonal, terraced bell tower. In summer, it's not unusual to see kayakers paddling down the Garonne... Any ideas for your next outing? On hot summer days, there are a number of beaches on the banks of the Garonne where you can relax. Here, a picnic is much appreciated. In the distance, you can admire the magnificent cathedral of St-Bertrand de Comminges.

VELOSUD in Haute-Garonne: The route that runs along the Pyrenees, from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean by bike! In Haute-Garonne, coming from Lannemezan, you enter via Saint-Bertrand de Comminges and then Saint-Gaudens. Then continue from Roquefort-sur-Garonne towards the Salat valley to reach the Ariège (Saint-Girons). A pleasant route, often on dedicated cycle paths, with spectacular scenery.

Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges is a veritable open-air museum. As you stroll along its cobbled streets, you'll be charmed by the majestic Sainte-Marie cathedral. The village, with its medieval ramparts and gates, transports you back to a time when time seemed to pass differently. Roman ruins and archaeological sites tell the ancient story of this region, once a thriving city of the Roman Empire. You'll also discover the Saint-Just basilica in Valcabrère, another witness to this rich past. The walk, which starts from the car park in the upper part of the village, takes in the upper town with its cathedral of Sainte-Marie, the lower town which was the suburb of the town in the Middle Ages, the archaeological site which reveals impressive remains from the Gallo-Roman era, and Valcabrère with its basilica, a pure jewel of Pyrenean Romanesque art.

At the gates of Pau, about 10km, the gite is in a small recent housing estate of about ten houses. It is a functional gite fitted out on the ground floor, built in 2018. It includes a living room opening onto the terrace on the south side. The kitchen is fully equipped for your comfort. The beds are made for your arrival it is included in the price, as well as the bathroom linen which is provided. The ground is not closed and you have a garden furniture with barbecue as well as a shelter for your car. You are in a small village typically Béarnais, surrounded by countryside, with calm. There are buses to the city center if you wish.

Château de Valmirande, built by Baron Bertrand de Lassus, was created from scratch at the end of the 19th century. In 1892, he acquired 10 parcels of land in a single block, covering an area of around 41 hectares, to build the château, surrounded by landscaped grounds. The château was designed by Louis Garros, an architect from Bordeaux. For the parkland, Baron de Lassus called on the Bülher brothers, creators of the Parc de la tête d'Or in Lyon, Parc Borély in Marseille and the Talleyrand estate in Valençay, etc. In 1902, the château was extended to the east by a chapel, whose stained-glass windows, marbles and Sacred Heart by L. Barrias can still be admired. In 1912, landscape gardener René Édouard André added two French-style flowerbeds: one to the north of the château, the other to the south from which you can enjoy the view of the Pyrenees mountain range, so beloved of Bertrand de Lassus. Historic guided tours of the site take in the grounds, the listed stables and the chapel. The interior of the château, a private residence, is not open to visitors. Real arboretum of more than 180 species.

Located at the foot of the Pyrenees, between the Ocean and the Mediterranean, at the confluence of the Neste and the Garonne rivers. In a superb site, a true belvedere facing the summits, the city and its leisure center dominate the tumultuous Garonne river. Labelled "Station Verte" (Green Resort) f This unspoilt location, which is easily accessible from the A64 motorway, puts the town at the gateway to the Pyrenean Valleys and the many mountain resorts of the Haute-Garonne and Hautes-Pyrénées. Montréjeau is an ancient bastide town, founded in 1272 with its arcades on the town's central square. Saint-Jean church, dating from the 12th and 15th centuries, and its bell tower from the 17th and 18th centuries. A 30-panel discovery trail offers free access to the town's heritage (bastide, Hôtel de Lassus, banks of the Garonne, Pyrenees panorama). The Commune will be welcoming you to a busy summer season with numerous events at the leisure centre and in the town: - An open-air market every Monday morning with local specialities (cheeses, meats, miasson, etc.). - The FOLKOLOR Festival (folk dances) from 14 to 18 August, attended by over 25,000 people. - An old-fashioned market with a parade and an exhibition of old trades on the last Monday in July. - A fireworks display on the lake on 14 July. - Environmental awareness days: fishing, fauna/flora, waste sorting, etc.

The development of Lourdes is connected to pilgrims’ trains. On March 9, 1866 the station was inaugurated and the first steam engine reached Lourdes on March 27. In 1887, the definitive station was finished with its metallic structure and its 92 meters long platforms. For the fiftieth anniversary of the Apparitions, up to 300 000 pilgrims came to Lourdes by train, the beginnings of the arrival of countless crowds on the 20th century.

In the hospice, Bernadette Soubirous attended religious instruction classes before the Apparitions. On June 3, 1858 she did there her first holy communion. After the Apparitions, she was admitted as a boarder to protect her against visitors’ harassment and to get an education. Finally, she left definitely Lourdes on July 4, 1866 to join Saint-Gildard convent in Nevers.

The baptismal basin, made of marble from Lourdes, is dated from the Roman ages. Bernadette Soubirous was baptised on 9 January 1844 over these basins which were originally in the former Saint-Pierre church.

The construction of the Sacré-Cœur parish church started in 1875 on the request of Abbot Peyramale. It was inaugurated in 1903 and the bell tower was finished in 1936. Abbot Peyramale’s grave can be seen in the crypt.

On March 25, 1858 Bernadette transmitted here in Occitan to Abbot Peyramale the words of the Apparition: « I am the Immaculate Conception ». In 1973, the descendants of Lacour, owners of the building since 1922, transferred it to the city of Lourdes which established there the community library until 2007. The building keeps untouched one part of the wall of its old garden as well as the door through which Bernadette went in.

The Roman church was built in the 11th century and housed a necropolis of sarcophaguses made of stone from the Béout. It was destroyed in 1904-1907 because the authorities judged that it was too small and too antiquated to foster the crowds coming to Lourdes. Its furniture, such as some decorative elements, is preserved in the Musée Pyrénéen. In 1991, the foundations of a square tower and a crossing point of antic ways were found.

In the old times, the road crossed the Lapacca River on the Arrieux Bridge and climbed up the “rue Basse”. In 1844 was built the “chaussée Maransin” to avoid this steep section. The Lapacca River, underground since 1883, flows under the square and the boulevard towards the Gave River. Its course allowed to operate some watermills. The Lapacca square became Jeanne d’Arc square after her beatification in 1909.

At the bottom of the “rue Basse” was the gate tower of the north entrance of Lourdes. People entered into the city by the Enjouan slope to arrive at the Arrieux Bridge where this gate tower was standing. It was destroyed in 1804. Up the Lapacca river is still a tower of the 13th century, the last vestige of a fortified county watermill.

Maison de Zélie invites you to share its history and heritage 3km from the Montréjeau swimming lake. Renovated 1876 character house with 3 rooms (living room and two bedrooms) with small private garden, quiet south-facing position.
