This challenging route is a great way to start tackling elevation gains as part of your training before taking on mountain passes. Set between the plains and the foothills of the Pyrenees, your ride will be punctuated by varied landscapes and lovely viewpoints.
Route suggested by the La Roue Libre Huossaise cycling club.
From Gourdan Polignan station, head towards Seilhan on the D8a, which will take you to St-Bertrand de Comminges and then Loures Barousse. Take the cycle lane towards Chaum. At the roundabout, turn left towards Fronsac and then the Col des Ares (797m - 8.4km climb - 330m ascent - % average: 4 - % maximum: 11).
At the summit, continue towards Juzet d'Izaut, Izaut de l'Hôtel, Payssous, Sauveterre de Comminges and Barbazan.
This brings you to the second difficulty on the route, the côte de Burs (600m - 1.74km ascent - 125m vertical drop - average %: 7.1 - maximum %: 7.1).
Continue towards Hauts de Labroquère and descend towards Labroquère. At the traffic lights, cross the D825 to take the cycle route back to Gourdan-Polignan.
