This family walk runs alongside the Garonne. You will enjoy panoramic views of remarkable sites such as Saint-Bertrand de Comminges. Admire the church of Seilhan and its octagonal bell tower with a terrace.
In summer, it's not unusual to see kayakers paddling down the Garonne... Any ideas for your next outing?
On hot summer days, there are a number of beaches on the banks of the Garonne where you can relax. Here, a picnic is much appreciated. In the distance, you can admire the magnificent cathedral of St-Bertrand de Comminges.
1 - Park your vehicle in the centre of the village of Seilhan in the attractive village hall car park. Leave the car park and turn right towards the church. Enjoy the drive through this pretty, bucolic village, with its many flowers.
4 - At a crossroads, turn right at the bottom of a slope a few metres long. Follow the slightly uphill path.
5 - At the next junction, turn left down the path. Admire the beautiful views along the way, particularly of Montréjeau's Valmirande castle.
7 - A few hundred metres further on, at a crossroads, turn right and then immediately left to follow the "bords de la Garonne 5mn" path. On this descent, follow the signs for "bords de la Garonne". At the bottom of the descent, there's an unusual little passage in front of you. You have to go through a small tunnel cut into the limestone rock. The Garonne is first heard and then slowly revealed.
8 - Follow the path as close as possible to the banks of the river - crossing several wooden barriers - white, red and yellow markings on the trees. There are a few fences to cross, so remember to close them behind you. Continue along the path on the right bank of the Garonne until you come to an intersection with a tarmac road.
9 - Continue straight ahead - white, red and yellow markings on the trees. Follow this superb path through undergrowth along the banks of the Garonne. You will come across wooden barriers on several occasions.
10 - When you come to a crossroads, take the track that bends 90° to your left. After a short climb, you will arrive in the middle of fields. Follow the track and at the next junction turn left (signposted Seilhan 20mn).
12 - At the crossroads, turn right. 200m further on, turn left into "Caminau" to reach the heart of the village.
Turn right to return to your vehicle.
2 - At number 30, take a path on the right (yellow mark on post number 78) and follow it until you reach a sign.
3 - Take the path on the left, which is a little steep for a few metres. Continue along this pretty, shaded path.
6 - When you reach a paved road, head straight ahead towards the Chemin de la Barraque.
11 - At the next intersection, turn right to rejoin the paved road. Follow it to reach the village of Seilhan.
