Interpretation panels help you discover the town's historical heritage. ITINERARY : From Parking Plaisance, follow signs for Place Général de Gaulle, then Grand Rue and Roc de Gachone. From this crossroads, follow signs for Château, then Calvisson Plaisance, returning via the Florent washhouse. TO DISCOVER ALONG THE WAY : - Saint-Saturnin church of Romanesque origin, modified several times between the 12th and 15th centuries. - Laundries and fountains. - Remains of the 11th-century medieval castle. - The 19th-century halles (covered market) in the "Art Nouveau" style. - The 19th-century temple. - Panoramic views of the sea and Cévennes from the Roc de Gachone. - Windmills on the Roc de Gachone hill. - The House of Boutis, a decorative quilting technique. GOOD TO KNOW : Since prehistoric times, people have settled on the Vaunage, a large, beautiful plain between Nîmes, the banks of the Vidourle and the Mediterranean. In Roman times, the road linking Nîmes to Sommières brought the region to life, with its many farms. The present-day village of Calvisson was formed in the Middle Ages with the establishment of the priory of Saint Saturnin, of which the church remains the most beautiful witness, followed by the construction of a castle on the heights in the 11th century, which bears witness to the liveliness of the Wars of Religion. Indeed, Calvisson is one of the high points in the history of Protestant resistance in the lowlands. The village took off in the 18th and 19th centuries, thanks to its wine merchants. A new art of living took hold, reflected in the construction of fine residences.

A fun and educational walk to discover how pastoral activity has transformed the landscape. A trail that takes you on a journey through the garrigue, a Mediterranean landscape shaped by man's pastoral activities over the millennia and up until the 1950s. The Chemin des laines owes its name to the scraps of wool hung on bushes by ewes as they grazed in the garrigue. Today, many vestiges remain along the paths between Vaunage and Sommierois, including the typical dry-stone constructions known as "capitelles", which have recently been restored. This trail also offers fine views over the Vaunage plain. Itinerary : 1. Go to Calvisson village center, Place Général de Gaulle. Take rue de Plaisance, then turn right onto rue du 8 mai 1945 to reach the D107, which you cross to reach Mazet de Guiraud. 2. Follow Chemin Font de Coucou then Ournèzes then Balcon de la Liquière. 3. At the Fontaine du Coucou, follow the signs for Queyrolles, then turn right to admire the capitelles and views over the plain as far as the Balcon de la Liquière. 4. At the Balcon de la Liquière, you can continue the Balade du Coucou loop, also known as the sentier des capitelles, by turning left towards La Queyrolle (loop) and then back up to the Balcon de La Liquière (+3 km). 5. Follow La Liquière then Grande Place, Puech des Buis, Labadel, Mas de Puech Long, Le Terme Blanc, La Manade, Chantale Basse, Val Claude, Cante-Perdrix, Maupas and Ournèzes. 6. Then direction Chemin Font du Coucou, Mazet de Guiraud and return to Place du Général de Gaulle via Rue du 8 mai 1945 and Rue de Plaisance to Place du Général de Gaulle. GOOD TO KNOW: The garrigue is an area rich in resources, with many edible plants. Small harvests were once an important source of food for the villagers.

Discover the wealth of edible plants in the garrigue. Take a break at Mazet Lebrun, a surprising place. Stroll through the garrigues to discover different species of edible plants. ROUTE : This trail starts in the same way as the Garrigue Gourmande interpretation trail, as far as Mazet Lebrun. TO DISCOVER ON THE TRAIL : This part of the trail features explanatory panels and an arboretum to help you discover a variety of plants. The trail then continues into the garrigues.

A circuit in the heart of the villages and hamlets of Camargue, close to one of the last marshy islets located in agricultural zone. From the place of the primary school of Albaron, go to the right on the D37 for 1 km, towards Saliers. Turn left towards the Maison du riz and Mas de la Vigne on the Figares road for 9 km. 1 - At the junction of the D572, turn left towards the bridge then cross the Petit Rhône. Enter the Gard department. Continue for 400 m. Turn right towards the D179 towards Fourques. Cross the railway and then take the path on the left. Continue for 1.5 km and cross the canal. Recover avenue Emile Cazelles right, pass the bullring of Saint-Gilles. 2 - At the intersection with Chanzy Boulevard, turn left. Cross the Canal du Rhône at Sète. Continue on the D6572, the road of Arles on 1.5 km. Cross the Petit Rhône again. Leave on the left the Hotel de Cabanettes then turn to the right on the D37 towards Saliers and Albaron then continue for 1 km. 3 - After the Saliérène manade, take the road on the left. Pass through the Saliers hamlet and turn left after the church. Retrieve the D37 on the right, then join point 1. In point 1, join the start of the ride by the same route taken one way.

Take the dike and follow the Petit-Rhône along the water, one of the two arms of the Rhône From the rest area of ??Paty-de-la-Trinité, head towards the Petit-Rhône and take the dike on the left which runs along the Petit-Rhône for 12 km. 1 - At the Sylvéréal Bridge, make a U-turn to return to the rest area of ??Paty-de-la-Trinité.

This trail offers a real presentation of the natural environments of the Camargue related to water, you will travel in unique landscapes ! With your back to the Camargue Museum, start the ride on the left. Walk along the Rousty canal for more than 1 km. 1 - Go to the right and continue for 600 m. 2 - at the intersection of the two paths, turn to the left. 3 - Turn left at the footbridge to discover the reed bed. Walk the bridge to the point of view and retrace your steps. In point 3, turn left to reach the observatory. Then retrace your steps and in point 2 continue straight. 4 - At the intersection of the two paths, follow the path on the right and then return to the Camargue Museum.

To build their houses, the inhabitants of Junas had the privilege of collecting the stone off-cuts, hence their massive appearance. Du XVIème au XVIIIème siècle, la ville adhère à la Réforme. Protestants et catholiques s’opposent, ce qui entraîne la disparition des plus beaux monuments de la ville. Vauvert est une étape incontournable de la Via Tolosana, l'un des 4 chemins de pèlerinage vers Compostelle, la "Voie du Sud". Le sentier GR®653 qui traverse le bourg a été inauguré en 1990, c’est le dernier des 4 chemins de Compostelle, il est matérialisé par des clous dédiés. Il est continu et bien balisé, doté d’une variété d’hébergements. Il est praticable sur une grande amplitude saisonnière. Le moulage du squelette baptisé la "Dame de Caissargues" est exposé au musée archéologique qui présente aussi une exposition permanente évoquant la vie de certains de ces lointains ancêtres du Languedoc à l'âge du cuivre. Les morts étaient enterrés à proximité du village, à même le sol, seulement protégés par quelques pierres. Les sépultures découvertes à Caissargues sont au nombre de 25 et, parmi celles-ci, on note la présence de 5 enfants. Ce sont des inhumations individuelles ou doubles, en pleine terre, parfois de petites fosses sont creusées, sans aménagement particulier pour recevoir la mort. Le musée de la Préhistoire d'abord, qui évoque le quotidien des peuplades de la civilisation Fontbouisse, installés dans la région il y a quelque 3 000 ans. Un guide vocal vous orientera avec jeux et lumières, tout en vous contant l'histoire de la Dame de Caissargues. Il y a eu certainement une occupation romaine, car certains vestiges sont été retrouvés dans les différents sites archéologiques, têtes de statues, fragments de poterie épitaphes (stèles funéraires avec inscription). Le nom de Caissargues viendrait d'ailleurs d'un romain du nom de "CASSIUS" qui lui aurait donnée son nom, Caissargues signifierait "Propriété de Cassius". Et, à proximité, les colonnades de l'ancien Théâtre de Nîmes, qui se trouvait en lieu et place de l'actuel Carré d'Art avant d'être entièrement brulé en 1953. Édifié au début du XIXe siècle et détruit par un incident volontaire, le théâtre était magnifié d'une colonnade néoromane, qui a subsisté et fut réimplantée à Caissargues lors de l'aménagement paysager des abords de l'autoroute. Aujourd'hui, les nouveaux mariés en habits de noces viennent traditionnellement se faire photographier sous la colonnade. Le musée peut être fermé occasionnellement sans préavis.
