Exceptional for the fauna and flora it shelters, it is part of the Natura 2000 site "Les Boucles de la Marne". Not so long ago, the Grand-Voyeux Regional Nature Reserve was still a quarry, where conveyors extracted sand and gravel with a crunch of grains. Excavated in the 1970s, the cavities were gradually transformed into waterholes, quickly colonised by reeds and birds, thus allowing nature to take over. The Maison du Grand-Voyeux is open to the public two days a week, with the aim of helping visitors discover the Grand-Voyeux while preserving biodiversity and the balance of the ecosystems. A discovery trail and observatories allow visitors to discover the incredible landscapes of the site and the multitude of bird species that have found refuge there. Nature activities, workshops and thematic conferences are also organised regularly and free of charge (see programme online at www.maisondugrandvoyeux.fr). Managed by the Agence des espaces verts (AEV) of the Île-de-France Region since 1999, it was classified as a Regional Nature Reserve in 2012. A partner of the AEV, the Association pour la Valorisation des Espaces Naturels du Grand Voyeux is responsible for the scientific monitoring of the site and for certain activities.

Legend has it that the City of Coulommiers takes its name from Julius Caesar himself. The latter is said to have named the small Gallic village seen along the Grand Morin when he conquered the gaules castrum columbarium. Today, this name, known internationally for its eponymous cheese, is a place full of sometimes unknown stories. It was in the Middle Ages that the Coulommiers counts of Champagne settled in Coulommiers, bringing with them the Templars and fellow tanners from the City of Troyes. To set up their industry, the latter created small canals or brassets on the Grand Morin. Today, built around these rivers, the city has, thanks to them, the charm of the cities nicknamed "little Venice". Coulommiers can also boast 4 monuments protected as Historic Monuments: Commanderie des Templiers, Théâtre à l'italienne, Ruins of the Parc des Capucins, Notre-Dame-des-Anges church, Former Prison converted into a library. But also, many other sites not listed or classified with an undeniable architectural and historical quality: Halle aux fromages, Chapelle de Pontmoulin, Ancien Tribunal, Hôtel de Ville, Octrois, ....... Coulommiers therefore offers a diversified and quality historical, cultural and architectural heritage. The intangible heritage is not to be outdone, through its famous cheese, the popular arts and traditions and the great men who lived there or who were born in the city (Le Valentin dit Valentin de Boulogne, Beaurepaire, Yvette Troispoux...). Coulommiers is therefore the name of a famous Brie cheese, king of kings and king of cheeses, but not that, it has many surprises in store for you to discover.

This medieval-inspired garden was created and created in 1993 by landscape gardener Joël CHATAIN and the REMPART Ile-de-France association. This medieval garden is a unique example in France: on 4000m2, 250 species of plants known and used for food, decoration, health or technical purposes in the 15th century, before the discovery of the American continent. Thanks to the voluntary workers and members of the association, today this garden is open to the public from April until November and presents its collection of ancient plants, its medieval atmosphere and shape, its small fruit and its orchard not to forget its samples of wine plants…

This village, known as the Venice of the Brie (Venise de la Brie), has retained its own character, based on a distinctively structured street plan inherited from the Middle Ages. The main streets follow the curves of the brassets, or defensive ditches fortified by walls and towers, of which many vestiges remain. There are several suggestions for walks, such as the new "Valley of the Painters of the Grand Morin" trail on which the visitor discovers the landscapes which have been shaped by water and inspired many artists such as Corot, Toulouse-Lautrec and Servin. The tanners’ houses are dotted alongside the canals and there is a splendid parish church. The hamlet of La Chapelle has kept its Collegiate church of Notre Dame de l’Assomption, built around 1250 in the lower reaches of the valley. It is reinforced by particularly well-developed flying buttresses. Its tower with its double saddleback roof is typical of the Brie region. Fragments of bas-relief have been found in the nave and have been placed in the spandrel above the main entrance. Three levels of windows in exceptionally unadorned gothic style illuminate the church’s interior. The nave is twelfth century while the side aisles towards the façade date from the fifteenth century.

Église Saint-Quirin (martyr du IIIe siècle) L’Église Saint-Quirin de Vaucourtois fut reconstruite en 1852 à l’initiative de Monsieur Oudot, propriétaire du château, sur les fondations de l’église primitive du XIIIe . Le retable en bois polychrome (XVIIIe siècle) de l’ancien Hôtel-dieu de Meaux en décore le chevet. Saint-Quirin est invoqué contre les mauvais esprits. Sans doute était-il souvent sollicité car les “sorciers de Prévilliers” n’étaient pas loin..

Autour d’une ébauche de chapiteau datée du XIe siècle, réem-ployée en tambour de colonne, se développe une architecture allant du XIIIe siècle, en chœur et transept, jusqu’au milieu du XXe siècle dans ses reprises partielles de voûtes par plafonds plats ou cintrés, avec des traces de décors du XVIe. Son clocher, initalement implanté au-dessus du carré de tran-sept, a été reconstruit en 1865. Ses similitudes avec le clocher de l’église de Boutigny, font penser qu’à cette époque, comme pour les mairies-écoles et les gares, ces constructions sortaient d’un catalogue de plans types.

Ce village à caractère agricole a fait la une des journaux en 1958, lors de la découverte du premier gisement pétrolier d’IIe-de-France. Aujourd’hui, la nappe est tarie, la plupart des puits sont rebouchés, quelques pompes à balancier, encore visibles entre l’autoroute A4 et Vaucourtois, extraient les dernières gouttes ...

Sur un plan original de l’architecte Savard, ce lavoir fut construit en 1863. Après avoir remarqué l’ordonnancement sobre de son fronton, la découverte de sa face arrière méritera bien ce détour. De forme circulaire, l’ensemble est construit de sorte à pouvoir laver à l’extérieur comme à l’intérieur.

Dans le “jardin du curé”, près de son puits à la margelle en pierres taillées et de son presbytère. Aujourd’hui, plus de prêtre résidant, l’immeuble a gardé sa volumétrie et la commune a dû convertir sa destination. L’église Sainte-Madeleine (XIIIe au XVIIe ) comporte 3 nefs, le chœur est habillé de hautes boiseries moulurées vernies. Outre un vestige de vitrail du XVe en chevet, l’église abrite une Vierge d’Henri Arnold, sculpteur ayant résidé à Bouleurs (auteur du monument aux Morts que vous pourrez voir devant la Mairie)

Garden-Theatre The garden of the Moulin Jaune, recognised as an ""Outstanding garden"" by the Ministry of Culture in December 2014, is a park made up of several gardens which are the scenes of artistic work. Each with its dominant colour, its little scenic spaces and its cabin to work, escape, sleep or play... Constantly evolving, the garden is being constructed progressively, with spaces in planning, some in transformation, others finally in a temporary balance. Several landscape artists, gardeners and teams, including integration programmes and volunteer gardeners, work there throughout the year, distributed depending on the projects. Maison-Théâtre In 2001, Slava Polunin moved to the banks of the Grand Morin. The building, modified many times over the centuries, had been uninhabited for over 20 years. Without betraying its history, he made it a place of work and living. Each room has its own atmosphere, a product of travels, childhood memories and the imagination of Slava and all those he invited there. Safety reasons prevent him from opening the doors of his Mill as often as he would like to. In 2014, the farmhouse was renovated. The building was crowned with a work of art made from chestnut oat planks. There are rooms for the artists, artisans and temporary or residential associates.

The Saint-Martin Church tops the famous hill of Doue, 40 m above the vast surrounding plain! Nicknamed "The Lighthouse of the Brie", the place promises you a grandiose view of the surrounding countryside, between fertile fields and hundred-year-old lime trees! Classified as a Historic Monument in 1922, the present church was built in the Gothic period, from the 13th to the 16th century. The oldest text concerning the parish of Doue dates from 1107, attesting to the presence of a religious building at that time. Legends and origins of the hillock of Doue : According to legend, Gargantua, a mischievous giant, wanted to divert the course of the Petit Morin. He took the earth needed to shape the banks in a place that would become the Coulommiers basin, filled his sack with it, and set off towards the river. Unfortunately, he had not adjusted his braces properly and his sack tipped over on the way. This is how the mound of Doue was born. In truth, the hillock is composed of sand and limestone, and was formed during the Tertiary period, when the sea withdrew. Classified as a "Village de Caractère" since December 2018, the commune of Doue is made up of the main town and several hamlets, scattered at the foot of the hillock. You can enjoy the view over the whole valley from the picnic tables...
